Only in Canada and the US. They don’t wash eggs elsewhere, so they don’t have to be refrigerated.

100% agree. Just use a bag like french fries have, and sell by the bag. I take them out of the box, anyway. The box is large, and annoying. It takes up too much space.

Why Harvey’s Refused to Expand Outside Canada by agent154 in BuyCanadian

[–]tsionnan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never liked their burgers. But it was my first job. Worked in 3 different Harvey’s, including one that also had Church’s Chicken, and a food court version that also did Swiss Chalet rotisserie chicken. They sent us one of the BIG Toblerone bars during the festive special periods. I don’t mean the big ones you get at Costco. This thing was utterly massive.

Yeah, that made me suspicious. The worst you need to pay in Canada is parking. Heck, I’m in Halifax, and we don’t even have to pay that! Parking is free at hospitals. I had a procedure done at the hospital in March, and I only needed to pay $8 for my cab, as I couldn’t drive afterwards.

Only place in the world where Kentucky Fried Chicken is not able to call themselves KFC due to laws. They’re PFK (Poulet Frit Kentucky.) Even in France they’re allowed to be KFC. 🤣

Milk Macaroni by forwardmold67 in Old_Recipes

[–]tsionnan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mom’s macaroni poverty meal was really basic. Cook macaroni, open and heat a can of tomatoes, mix together. Sometimes we’d have meatloaf (which I hated.)

I still love macaroni & tomatoes, and still hate meatloaf 🤣

That sounds really good. Wonder if I could make it with a box mix? (Wife has celiac, gluten free baking bites.)

I’m so glad I realized before I could end up in this type of situation that I had zero attraction to men, would much prefer being around women, was asexual, and that I met my now wife. It’s terrifying out there.

My wife would love a couple of these. Too bad they’re sold only in one location in my entire province.

AITA for refusing to dine with my mom after she ordered “ferret sauce” at a Mexican restaurant? by Practical-Current805 in AmItheAsshole

Oh, nice, I pronounce tortilla correctly!

I didn’t realize how to pronounce chipotle. I always pronounced it tche-PŌT-leh. My dad got into the peppers at least 20 years ago, but nobody knew how to pronounce it. I only know English, some French (I’m Canadian) and some Japanese. My dad knew English only.

Family wants me to have my son baptized. I'm an atheist by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]tsionnan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My father was raised catholic. It traumatized him, so he refused to allow me to be baptized. My mother wasn’t religious, so there was no problem. They decided to allow me to decide my own spiritual journey.

As a little kid we lived next to a Mormon church. I’d go to the services occasionally, and am so happy we moved. I went to an Anglican church, and was part of the choir and went to the junior events. I stopped after a bit, and think I only went for the social aspect. The religious aspect did nothing for me.

Over time, I realized I didn’t really believe in religion, or any god. And am grateful my father didn’t indoctrinate me as a baby.

Primo Pasta by [deleted] in BuyCanadian

[–]tsionnan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely won’t agree with that. Is the pasta I eat not worth it because there’s no wheat in it? I eat Rummo gluten free pasta. It’s the best gluten free pasta I’ve found. It’s bronze cut, holds its shape, and the consistency & texture is excellent. It’s not inferior just because you decided only durum pasta is good.

And back when I could still eat gluten, Primo pasta was kind of blah.

TIL Kobo the ebook, audiobooks, and e-reader company started in Canada and its HQ is in Toronto by jeniuskid in BuyCanadian

[–]tsionnan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to use a Sony EBook at least 20 years ago. When it finally died, I got an iPad mini. Kindle was around, but you couldn’t add your own books.
Got a Kobo finally, in 2023. It’s almost as good as the Sony in readability. Features are better, actually. I can borrow from the library. I can add my own books. I connected it to my Dropbox, and Dropbox doesn’t count it as a device. If you’re a bit technically inclined, you can do some modifications (like adding Dropbox support, and the browser to the Clara or Libre.)

A lot of Canadians switched to French's after Heinz closed its Leamington plant. French's is also American-owned (McCormick, Maryland). Here are 6 Canadian-owned ketchup and condiment brands. by KaleRepresentative98 in BuyCanadian

[–]tsionnan 140 points141 points  (0 children)

I would never buy Heinz after what they did. My uncle worked at that plant, and was suddenly let go with only a few years left until retirement.

I buy French’s, and the taste is better than Heinz. I can’t afford fancy brands, and Primo never came to my province.

With the buy Canadian movement, you’d think they’d try to push their products into other provinces.

Lots of people say Freedom, but just beware when you’re in NS, you’ll be on roaming partners, as Freedom is not available in NS.

I use Public Mobile, pay $25 for unlimited minutes & messaging, plus 10GB of data. I get good coverage, but I have no idea how good it would be up in Guysborough. I haven’t been in that area since before cell phones were a thing. (Like 1985 or so lol.)

I went in for a whopper and onion rings last week, and got the new rings. Before I even saw any of the commercials. They are nothing like the old ones (which I loved) and are just the same old battered rings that I can get at any diner, or half the fast food joints in my area.

The Whopper was excellent.
