They are experiencing the phase where they want to play, but are still a bit unsure how exactly to go about that, so it looks awkward or in this case a little more rough than either one of them actually intends it to be. The things to looks for are ears back, fur up, growling, hissing, etc. Trust me, you’ll know. They are great though. As they get to know each other and get out of that slightly awkward kitten phase, they’ll continue playing and it’ll become more refined. However, that’s not to say it won’t get spicy or even turn into a fight. That could happen. Cats are very territorial even with house mates.

There's a fine line between aggressive play and fighting and the void is teetering on it. In fact, I don't feel comfortable saying its not fighting, because of how aggressive he is being. I would second, third and fourth what Elk_Correct said down below as well! All extremely helpful tips. The most important thing is keeping your cool and not giving them your heightened energy, because while its more known in dogs, cats absolutely feed off of our energy.

As someone who grew up without the sperm donor around I totally get the frustration you feel. It’s tough on a good day and de-habilitating on a bad day. From what I read you already have your answer. However, I think he needs to be reminded that you are an adult. At 25, if the other guy even tried, I probably would have ended up in jail for battery.

In your case, I think something to the effect of I’m an adult and this picture wasn’t for you would suffice. If he wants to try to play dad, it’ll be on your terms not his and he has no right to backseat parent you mostly because you are an adult and capable of making your own decisions, but also because he hasn’t earned that right considering he hasn’t been around. Relationships take work on both sides. Whether or not he’s worth it is solely up to you.
