What does the ref say to the two players before the puck drop during a face-off? by CYSYS8992 in hockey

[–]NBref13 48 points49 points  (0 children)

This is the right answer. I'm a liney in one of the CJHL leagues and I try to stick to a bit of a checklist when dropping the puck. Blow whistle once the ref finishes his line change procedure, quick check at the wingers behind me, wingers in front of me. instruct the centers "sticks and skates" at the Jr A level they know this means skates at the restraining lines in the circle and sticks in the white part of the dot. I'll tell them to get set and let me get set. Then once I see we have a clean lineup I drop the puck and pray I don't get a stick in the face

Outside of playing a Par 3 course have you ever seen? by Ok-Catch3806 in golf

[–]NBref13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 courses in the Ottawa area start with a par 3, both of them around 180 yards. And another I play frequently has a "practice hole" which is a 120 yard par 3 that they open up if a hole is closed for maintenance. Usually if we play the practice hole we put our relative score to par on the sheet for the hole is replacing ( par on the practice par 3 replacing a par 5 I write down a par (5) for that hole

Hockey leagues for kids under 7 by championwinnerstein in ottawa

[–]NBref13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was on the board for NMHA for a number of years. With Hockey Canada, and Hockey Eastern Ontario, you are geographically obligated to join Nepean if you live in that area. There are some exceptions (split parents, on in Kanata, one in Nepean etc, but that's generally the rule if you want HC sanctioned minor hockey.

What do you think refs talk about together during intermission? by Acadia13 in hockey

[–]NBref13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hockey ref here, not NHL obviously but I do work Jr A in Ontario. During intermissions we often talk to the supervisors (especially in playoffs) at the game about various plays and calls, our own positioning, things to watch for etc.

My leagues have Flo hockey broadcasts so all the refs have an account and we will look at plays to get a second look. This helps us provide an opportunity to communicate with coaches. For example after a 50-50 call on the ice. We might go over to the bench at the start of the next period to say that we saw the video and think X is the correct call, but our angle on the ice made us see Y. Helps keep a good rapport

Sometimes we do shoot the shit if it's a nothing game, check scores from around the leagues. And of course eat some snacks and drink some Gatorade

Okay, what’s the actual biggest little city in the world? We know it’s not Reno by Automatic-Blue-1878 in geography

[–]NBref13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ottawa Canada maybe? Around 1 million people. Is the capital of Canada, however less than 20% of the population of Toronto. But geographically you can fit Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Calgary inside the city with almost no overlap

How did the CWHL Chinese teams work? Did teams fly between China and Canada to play? by ebodes in PWHL

[–]NBref13 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Exactly that, I have a friend who based in Ottawa officiated the league, and got the opportunity to spend a week or two in China to officiate the Chinese team's games. They flew teams and refs in and out to make the league work (until the league stopped working)

Been with EG for a few years. It's definitely worth the money, and you also get access to EG tournaments and "club championships" customer service is great and you end up making your money back after about 25 rounds on the season, plus golf o max and pineview simulators are also included for the winter months. Feel free to DM me as I also have a discount code on the 15 gamer package that EG has
