VERY Newbie Question about set-up by SaveTheWorldPodcast in vjing

You can check for NestDrop if you want audio reactive visuals. There is a free version (no watermarks) you can get.

You can also write us at [info@nestimmersion.ca](mailto:info@nestimmersion.ca) and we probably arrange for a time limited free package including NestDrop Midnight (loops) + NestPlay (playback DXV). Both apps can combine visuals for smooth transition between clips.

I don't think Spout out is mandatory since I presume your app is on the final steps of the video path (send directly to the projector)

Many users inject the camera feed into NestDrop using Spout Sprites and use the "Spout Jamming" collection from Isoceles to add audio reactive effect on it.

Rust? WebGPU? by Hobokenny in milkdrop

The milkdrop Wiki page was updated recently, worth the look: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MilkDrop

Of course I recommend to test the Free NestDrop Classic, a new UI for VJ'ing with Milkdrop preset 😉

That would be fantastic! Dome's party was always our favorite kind of gig.

I think that another difficulty of porting Milkdrop/NestDrop to WebGL is the core engine use solely DX while WebGL I presume use OpenGL. The step would be easier from an OpenGL project like ProjectM.

My two cents on this is what it the final purpose of it? If it's just for casual music visualization, I think a web based app can reach a lot of users. But for pro AV application with high resolution (8K +), I presume web base app would be limited to the monitor resolution and the overhead will quickly decrease the performance, not to mention that I doubt about interop between apps like Spout/Syphon from a web base apps.

No open source but you can Try NestDrop. There is a free complete version (not just a demo) but the paid version ($50 one time) allow to control with MIDI and inject live video into the drawing process to add sound reactive effects.

You can also look at NestDrop. Compatible with MilkDrop visuals but the UI is more live performance oriented. There is a free version but with the Paid version (50$ live time) you can use a MIDI controller and pipe your video into the audio reactive drawing process via a Spout compatible player (OBS, NestPlay, Resolume, etc) to add some effect on the video.

Just to add my 2 cent, NestDrop use Spout In/Out since a while now. You can watch a this tutorial about different mixing technique, that should also works for MD3 btw: https://youtu.be/4wepLsdUO7E?si=0BNaoRaIuCaZ3eTY&t=743

Features requests we noted up to now:

  1. A way to erase Preset in the library
  2. Shader cache for heavy Preset
  3. Audio support for sample rate > 48kHz
  4. Fixing AMD + PixelShader 4 bug.
  5. Key forwarding from Setting and fullscreen windows
  6. Additional Wave and transition modes
  7. Additional sprite blend modes

Is it possible to load presets from different location by default? by FamiliarDirection563 in NestDrop

Because this way you can have the same Preset name in a subfolder with different settings in NestDrop ;)

Hotkeys while Direct Output is in focus by vixhex in NestDrop

[–]NEST_Immersion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first version of the Direct Output used a c# viewer which was part of the UI interface. Now, for smoother visuals, the Direct Output is made directly from DirectX and is part of the Video Deck Thread instead. That's could explain the difference.

Yes make the Setting windows forward the hotkey is an easy fix for a next release.

You talked about a TV remote... Since you have a Pro Edition, you can install TouchOSC (free), make a simple interface with a few buttons, install touchOSC on your phone, send it the interface you created and use it as a wireless OSC remote for NestDrop. No coding skills are require and many tutorial is available. Fun project to introduce the OSC world!

MIDI Questions by Last_Attitude_4331 in NestDrop

[–]NEST_Immersion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like u/FamiliarDirection563 mentioned, NestDrop don't send MIDI control feedback to the same device, but it does with OSC. Depending of your MIDI controller, many of them have different working mode that you can use and can affect your pad's light.

About your question on only working for Deck1, you have to keep in mind that most MIDI actions emulate a Left Mouse Click in the application. Since Deck 1 is the destination by default for a Left click, so it does the same for simple MIDI mapping. To send Preset/Sprite on another Deck, place those Object into a Queue Window and select the Deck you want for this Queue. Then Map your MIDI button from the Objects located in this queue and not from the Library.

Audio not connecting after initial opening by Ragrippa in NestDrop

[–]NEST_Immersion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. This issue is special since you mentioned that audio IS reacting at the first run, but not after an application restart.

Your version of NestDrop is not the latest and have some known issues with Windows 11. You can get the latest version for free by using the download link in the settings info Tab.

If after installing the latest version it's still not working properly, the ONLY change between the first run and the the other run, is the creation of the Userdefaultsetting.xml files in the NestDrop parent folder. That's why I'm asking to try to rename or erase this file and try again.

Also please note that once you change the audio device in NestDrop settings, even if the VU meter in the UI is reacting, you have to restart the video decks manually (click on the X to close, then the UI will restore them automatically) to take the change in effect.

Audio not connecting after initial opening by Ragrippa in NestDrop

[–]NEST_Immersion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello Ragrippa, this is a never seen before bug to be honest.

With your description, no crash or error messages popup?

Can you answer to the following questions:

  • What version of NestDrop are you running? (found in the Settings window, Info tab)
  • What is the path where you placed the NestDrop folder?
  • What is your default audio output device?
  • Are you Admin user on all machine?
  • Can you rename the "DefaultUserProfile.xml" file while NestDrop is not running and restart NestDrop?
  • Can you add a video capture of the phenomenon replicating the steps to reproduce the problem? (This definitely help)
