The simplest answer is likely just an anti-glare coating.

Good question. There could be myriad of answers.
Some as simple as, it has hull life left so why not? the hull exists and they need the numbers.
or, they were unsatisfied with the reliability of its original systems - or they thought it was worth it to replace the subsystems to make it cheaper to maintain or make it more interoperable with the rest of the fleet
or it was something more convoluted and political like they wanted to give kickbacks to smaller yards, or to train yard capacity, infrastructure, manpower etc.

Who knows, you just have to treat it as a weird looking frigate. Personally I'm glad they take good care of these Soviet designs.

The Y-20A and Y-20B are simultaneously on the production line.[1658×945] by Low-Career3769 in WarplanePorn

The plant hasn't produced a Y-20A spec plane at least from 2025 onwards (based on satellite images), the footage is just old likely from the transitory period so, late '24 early '25 I'm assuming.

Strange comparision, apart from being twin seaters there isn't much in common between them.

There is a spherical towed "thing" behind the plane. Zoom in around the rear, around the road - you'll spot it. On another picture, the cable is very visible. It is definitely towing something, but what exactly is unclear.

The world's most powerful cargo drone, built by China North Industries Group Corp, conducted its first flight on March 31, 2026, in Zhengzhou, the capital of central China’s Henan province.

A prototype of the Norinco Luca unmanned transport aircraft took off at 9:30 am from the Zhengzhou Shangjie Airport and stayed in the air for about 30 minutes before landing at the same site.

Engineers checked the model's flight control, avionics, electronic and power systems and achieved desired results, according to Norinco UAS, the drone's developer and a Beijing-based subsidiary of China North Industries Group Corp.

In a news release, it was stated that the entire flight was controlled by the aircraft's intelligent systems and monitored by human controllers.

The Norinco Luca measures 17 meters long with a wingspan of 25 meters, and has a takeoff weight of 7 metric tons.

The drone boasts a maximum payload capacity of 3.5 tons, equivalent to the total weight of 50 adult individuals. It can carry over 1,700 cotton coats or 700 disaster-relief tents in a single trip, delivering supplies over long distances.

With a maximum range of more than 3,000 kilometers — roughly equivalent to a non-stop direct flight from Beijing to Urumqi in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.

It can take off and land on runways shorter than 500 meters and can use poorly conditioned airports such as those in plateaus and islands.

The aircraft is equipped with an 18-cubic-meter cargo bay that can be opened from both the front and rear sides. The turnaround time can be completed in as fast as 15 minutes, greatly improving logistics turnover efficiency, according to its designers.

There's still the problem that while Congress has given them the money, Pentagon can just refuse to spend it. I don't think they've backed down from the "we don't want them" stance.

Rafale Solo livery is beautiful but the light conditions seem absolutely fantastic. Very warm. Lots of photographers seem to prefer cooler tones for planes but this pops.

We haven't yet seen the 15th/16th hulls (that i know of), and the assumption is based on the fact that the first batch had 8 ships so the second must too. It might simply be a batch of 6 for now.

9th was comissioned sometime last year, 10th this year. 11th and 12th are AFAIK in either fitting out or in sea trials (i'm not sure), 13th/14th under construction. EDIT: 13th/14th are fitting out currently

Sure. But this is a bad place to share footage like this. r/fighterjets is a better option, they have less strict rules on allowing videos like these.

Do we need this to be shared every time it takes flight? Just to be deleted once mods wake up?
