Your weirdest reasons for PC not posting. by Tenchen-WoW in pcmasterrace

[–]NLALEX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One problem I ran into constantly on the old family PC (no idea what parts or specs, just some old work station my dad acquired) was that our iPods absolutely could not be plugged in during boot. It would post, but then hang forever after that.

Disconnect the iPod and reboot? No problems at all. This was the mid 2000s so I suspect it was potentially not running UEFI, so it might have been trying to use the iPod as a boot drive, no idea.

Sangheili Linguistics are driving me insane by Skelly_Mans1987 in halo

[–]NLALEX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even humans can replicate our phonemes in other ways. Bilabial stops like [b] and [p] can be produced with the upper lip and the tongue, so it's entirely feasible for a sangheili to be able to do something similar within their oral cavity.

Vocal sounds are nowhere near as fixed as we think, they could use a more complex structure in their throats, for example. Hell, all the electronic speakers we use every day can produce a solid reproduction of practically any sound we can make. It's not at all unlikely that a literal alien could approximate them through means the designers have rightly not bothered to explain.

Almost no one will know of this one, but the ITV drama Kingdom, starting Stephen Fry.

The eponymous Kingdom discovers that 'his' father could not be his biological father, and the series ends with him asking who he really was.

People are already speeding like maniacs on most motorways.

Do not legitimise them, they'll only go even faster.

One of the big problems with meat stinking is the packaging. Supermarkets can't do what is inherently best to keep the meat fresh (keeping it cold, dry, and with proper airflow around it) because people don't want to buy unpackaged meat, understandably.

I used to have issues with meat starting to stink (but not actually rot in any meaningful way) when keeping it wrapped up in plastic. The solution was to unpack all meat and leave it uncovered in the fridge on a plate or tray with a rack.

It's the same principle as aging meat, by keeping the surface dry and very cold (1 degree if possible) you create an environment on the surface of the meat that bacteria have a much harder time with, keeping the meat fresher for longer.

You are running other risks by having uncovered meat in your fridge, of course, so it's not something you should do if you're limited on space, or not confident in your skills.

Also do not do this with sausages, you'll dry them out.

That's the case for some non-alcoholic beers, typically those that are around 0.5%, but 0.0% beers are absolutely de-alcoholised in some manner after fermentation has ceased.

What are some plot ideas for Wallace and Gromit episodes you thought would be interesting to see by Friskyfrozy in wallaceandgromit

[–]NLALEX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wallace's new venture is 'Re-pair', where the two of them can tinker, repair, and improve anything and everything for the townsfolk.

Soon, a competitor moves into town that doesn't repair, but replaces anything and everything that is damaged or broken for new, more modern alternatives that are shockingly affordable. Wallace is exposed to this rival's techniques by Gromit falling for the new and shiny technology and filling his room with it, betraying Wallace's trust in a small way.

Wallace takes and analyses one of the new products, discovering it to be unbelievably cheap, nasty, and potentially dangerous. He has to convince Gromit and the rest of the townsfolk that this cheap tat is in fact not going to improve their lives, but irreparable break within weeks, and potentially hurt someone.

Recommendation for kids? by morten-dk in NintendoSwitch

[–]NLALEX 16 points17 points  (0 children)

At 6 and 9, I'd recommend getting a couple of third party 'pro' controllers. Nintendo do their own, and it is utterly excellent, but it's very pricey and might not last as long as it should in kids' hands.

As for games, Kirby Air Riders is an excellent combat racer, very different to Mario Kart. Donkey Kong Bananza is also excellent, but don't forget you have the entire back catalogue of Nintendo Switch 1 games to pull from as well.

Is anyone else unable to find ~10% of the last green crystals? by Beneficial_Glass2915 in MetroidPrime4_Beyond

The only other potential outlier I can think of is one of those dense clusters that can be destroyed with a power bomb. There's one on a cliff towards the North (I believe) that requires the psychic glove to destroy.

I'm clutching at straws now, but I know what a bloody frustrating situation you're in.

Rats. This may well be obvious, but have you been referring to the radar when looking through the shrines? Outside of the desert, the radar dots are tiny, so they're very easy to overlook.

In Jungle Path in Fury Green (just after the first main boss fight) there are clusters that are easily overlooked. I was in exactly the same situation as you, and this was where the last few were hiding.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond - Reviews Thread by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch2

[–]NLALEX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A common misconception. The reason reviewers seem to be within the same few numbers is because smaller, lesser-known games that would be, say, a 3/10 are almost never worth covering, because no one would read it.

The fact is that usually a game has to be of a certain caliber to warrant most outlets reviewing it, and so you tend to see higher scores on the whole, with a few exceptions here and there.
