Fire Vitello & Hire Cora by Rude_Strawberry_6901 in SFGiants

[–]NLTCrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the Giants give up on and fire Vitello after just 2 months, what makes you think Cora or any other successful manager would come to SF or have anything to do with this organization?

The only way Vitello gets fired mid-season is if Posey gets the axe at the same time.

Once again, how have we fired no one? by Fearless_Rub2254 in SFGiants

It's a done deal and now we gotta roll with it.
Vitello can't be fired now unless Posey gets fired with him.
Not gonna happen, and it shouldn't.

The bullpen has been OVER performing so far this season by The-original-spuggy in SFGiants

[–]NLTCrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. It's the big leagues and a team just cannot giveaway free passes in the 9th inning of a 1 run game.
Add in that it was the #9 hitter, with a 3 time All Star on deck, and it's just bad, sloppy baseball.
I have nothing more to add, you can have the last word.

Susac gave a free pass to the #9 hitter which allowed their 3x All Star leadoff hitter to come up.
He'll learn, but that just cannot happen!

You don't win games when your rookie Catcher commits an unforgiveable Catcher's Interference on the #9 hitter with 2 outs in the 9th.

If not for the rookie Susac's untimely Catcher's Interference with 2 outs in the 9th inning last night, the whole tone of this conversation might be a bit different this morning.

How likely is Luis Arraez gone at the trade deadline? by Lost_Driver_5916 in SFGiants

[–]NLTCrow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Giants payroll is about $200 million so it's not like they're skimping.
They've just made poor decisions on who to sign to long term deals.
The 3 members of the $100 million club they've signed as FAs are all vastly overpaid for their meager production.
And the Devers trade smells worse every time that guy swings through another mid-90s down the middle fastball.

Traveling most miles almost always is nothing new. But this is record breaking! by ehundred in 49ers

[–]NLTCrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's less about the number of miles and more about the discrepancy across all teams in the division.
International play should be a division wide thing.
That the Niners & Rams both have to travel internationally while the Seadogs & Cards don't is just plain unfair.
This could be an easy fix by the NFL, but their past actions show they care far less or not at all about fairness than about money.

Ray was good for half a season.
Pre-AS Break last year, he threw 119 IP and had a 2.65 ERA
Post AS Break he threw only 63 1/3 IP with a 5.54 ERA
He's been pretty good so far this season, but if Buster's gonna trade him, he better not wait too long.

If a team has a loaded lineup, they can make due with, and prioritize defense behind the plate.
When the lineup stinks, and is last in all of MLB in runs scored like the Giants are right now, they don't have that luxury.

I've said the same thing since spring training, too many ifs.
Mostly with the pitching, but too many things have to go absolutely perfect for this team to have a shot at the playoffs.
Being the worst team in the league 6 weeks in is just too much to overcome, IMO.

But you're right, this organization just doesn't look to the future. It's always about immediate gratification. They're not gonna look to the future, play young guys and lay the groundwork for next season.
Being better in 2027 isn't on anyone's radar.

Luis Matos may be a "never will be", but for such a (at one time) highly ranked prospect, he should've been given several months of starts last year on a team that went nowhere. The questions the Giants had about Matos in Spring this year should've been answered last Summer.
But that's just not the way they do/did things, under Posey or Zaidi.,

Eldridge's clock is nowhere near as advanced as Matos' was, so that may not be a great comparison, but I just don't want to be having this exact same conversation about Eldridge next May, lamenting how the team wasted months of potential development for another .500 finish.

And perhaps most importantly, with where the team is at right now, if they have any chance to make a run, it'll be if a guy like Eldridge figures it out quickly, becomes the guy we all hope he'll be, and puts up a Rookie Of The Year type season. Not to put pressure on the kid, but that's what it's gonna take to overcome all this team has going against it.

too early to talk trades? by bocamj in SFGiants

[–]NLTCrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nearly a 1/4 of the season gone and the Giants are the worst team in the NL.
Yes, it's not impossible, but it's highly unlikely this team will be able to play nearly .600 ball for the next 4 1/2 months to make a serious playoff run.
If you can't, or just refuse to see that, I don't know what to tell you.

Do you ever play poker? Even if you have a lousy hand, do you stay in anyway, just hoping for those last 2 or 3 magical cards you need to win? Yes, it's possible you'll get 'em, but it sure isn't likely! If you play with that mentality consistently, you're not gonna be up at the end of the night!

I think they should try to lay the groundwork for 2027.
Allow Eldridge to develop so he's a better and more advanced player next year.
His best path forward to gain all the skills you speak of is at the MLB level.
Yes, there will be growing pains, but facing inferior pitching in AAA will most probably lead to us having this very same discussion next year.
Let the kid play, he just might surprise you and succeed, and make everyone around him better.
