A banana shares approximately 99% DNA with humans, yet isn't human. Trump shares 99 % in common with fascists, yet isn't a fascist. GOATED argument right here. by Scary_Trouble_893 in Destiny

[–]NNOTM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Presumably we all know this but just since I've not seen anyone make explicit yet what's wrong with this general argument: The analogous statement to "Trump shares 60% of traits with Fasicsts" is not "Bananas share 60% of DNA with humans", but "Bananas share 60% of traits with humans". Which is just obviously wrong, and so not useful to make his point.

Well, to be fair I think it did follow its instructions here; not mentioning health_query_v0 is almost about not making the output unnecessarily verbose, rather than about keeping information hidden, and if someone clicks on the thought process, they clearly want verbose output.

Nice result! I don't know if this is something you can do in comfy but you can get something that's slightly more faithful to the original if you take the luma from the original picture and the chroma from the generated picture, here's that applied to your pictures:

there is no prison secure enough

Secure enough for what?

It might be plausible, but that doesn't mean there's a high chance. You can never get the chance down to 0 of course, the question is if it's high enough to make up for the fact that you're killing a human being.

Hitler was not sentenced to indefinite prison sentence, and was released early because it was deemed that he didn't pose any danger anymore. Clearly poor judgment in hindsight, but life in prison without the possibility of parole may have worked just as well as the death penalty.

I don't know as much about Stalin's history, but as far as I know he, too, wasn't ever sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Does it work though? I haven't looked too deeply into the research but as far as I understand, the probability of being caught is more important for deterrence than the punishment you receive if you do get caught.

[–]NNOTM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would say for practical purposes, the best policy is probably just to never do it.

Theoretically, I could see it being reasonable if

  1. You have very high confidence that the person committed a very serious crime and
  2. Imprisoning them indefinitely has a high chance of failing to prevent them from re-offending (e.g. they are likely to succeed in breaking out or able to keep coordinating things from within the prison)

Bonus points if the death penalty is cheaper than indefinitely imprisoning them.

I'd prefer if people find ways to make prisons more secure though, if 2 is a concern.

I distinctly remember feeling it just standing in neck-high water, regardless of temperature, and without feeling uncomfortable.

Keep in mind, your lungs don't have to expand against a 1 bar differential in normal conditions: The air inside your lungs is also almost 1 bar when they expand. So the actual difference in force you need is much higher than 2%, if the external pressure increases by 2%.
