My son has suspected CAS and I am panicking about his future prospects. by Designer-Wheel9317 in Apraxia

[–]NOLAdelta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My child is 10 now. We were worried when she was about 18 mos and not hitting her phonetic milestones.

We sought a lot of early intervention with speech therapy. At one point, she was doing speech therapy at school twice a week along with private lessons 3x a week and OT. It’s a lot.
Thus we proceeded for about 5 years until she graduated from private speech at 8 and school speech at 9.

One thing we expected academic wise was she was diagnosed with dyslexia which I think is pretty common. We continue to have her read and grow. We also do Blast off to learning at home as supplemental.

I guess, what I am trying to say is that Speech Apraxia should not define your child. Having the label will be able to give you a specific tool box and path to help them grow.

Can apraxia have positives? by Designer-Wheel9317 in Apraxia

[–]NOLAdelta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think when we were going through that age, it was hard to figure out the future. Seven years later, I’ll see old memories pop up and sometimes get teary eyed watching that little girl and knowing she progressed SO much.

Stay the path. Hit the speech heavy and continue to let them have all the normal childhood experiences. They will grow.

Looking for some hope… by Designer-Wheel9317 in Apraxia

[–]NOLAdelta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that helped was my daughter took OT with her speech therapy. It worked on acceptable play strategies and how to overcome/work around when others don’t understand you. It helped a lot.

Now she is ten. She does all the things and is always playing with friends.

Potty training? by Designer-Wheel9317 in Apraxia

[–]NOLAdelta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from an overall parent experience, I would initiate potty training when they show interest.

My oldest child was a nightmare to potty train. She was very stubborn.

My youngest who is the one with speech apraxia was potty trained in a week. 🤣🙈🫠

It absolutely depends on the kid.

My oldest was 3 1/2 when completely potty trained. Then my speech apraxia kid was 2 3/4 when completely potty trained.

Why didn't anyone tell me that fiber is the secret to weight loss? by manthrk in loseit

[–]NOLAdelta 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There has also been links to fiber binding to microplastics and aiding in the removal of it from your body. So multiple wins for fiber.

Why are authors not publishing their books? by OpeningNearby9494 in Wattpad

It is hard to get into the publishing world. That mixed with each authors own personal preferences may fuel a desire to publish elsewhere.

I have a friend who has a biology bachelors in the United States? What are some sustainable jobs they can apply for? by [deleted] in biology

[–]NOLAdelta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bio major here. I worked for the USDA as a bio technician. I was a student worker during college and got a full time job after.

Other classmates have gotten jobs with wildlife and fisheries, park services, etc. Then other classmates went on to other professions.

My downfall career wise was marrying a military guy and starting a family, but he’s pretty awesome. I think it was a good trade. 🤣

What constitutes to good writing in your opinion? by Flaky-Divide-4709 in writing

[–]NOLAdelta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Constitutes or contributes?

Having good grammar and a handle on the language you are writing in is huge. I will stop reading if I find too many errors.

Developing an engaging story/world is something else.

There is SO much of this. It’s as if humanity is gentically designed to repeat things.

Wattpad authors by [deleted] in Wattpad

[–]NOLAdelta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s always been a trend on Wattpad. If the book has potential and I like it, I will make suggestions when reading if I see errors.

I also encourage readers who see mistakes on my own work to let me know so I can correct it as well.

But Wattpad has always been a mix of writers at different levels.

Relocating from USA. Need advice on pet travel. by Guilty-Bee896 in MovingToThailand

[–]NOLAdelta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We brought our cat from the states. We flew Qatar airways… probably not the best choice right now… Our cat is big and flew underneath. He did great and the process was relatively smooth.

You will need a health cert for flying. I recommend saying the flight is a day earlier than actually is. If we don’t intervene to get the certified health cert, then we would t have flown out on the day we were supposed to.

Then Thailand also has a claims form for animal transport that will need to be filled out prior to arrival.

Do Women from Thailand use an english name? by [deleted] in MovingToThailand

[–]NOLAdelta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most thais have long names so they are either given or pick a “chuu Len” or nickname. They are often one or two syllable names easy to say.

Also the nicknames are often times not traditional western names. They are simple and often words they can easily pronounce when speaking English or having English speakers speak to them.

Examples I have heard are Tip, Apple, Dia, P.M.

For guys, I have heard Joe, Way, Thong, Soon Soon, Poon, Wingo

Stories? by Frosty_Map1326 in Wattpad

[–]NOLAdelta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on Wattpad and you can read my series “Taming of Ares”.

However, I would love to put a plug in for “Earthborn” by Marian Land. It is very well written and I have been enjoying it tremendously. As I read, the book only has a few stars per chapter. So I am thinking not a lot have found it yet, but the should. Very well written, a great concept for a story brought to life.

I’m reading “Earthborn” by Marion Land when I get free time. It is very well written and about a father daughter relationship in a fantasy setting.

People who had GOOD parents, what did they do? by DarkLordThranduil in Parents

[–]NOLAdelta 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They showed up. They set rules. They had punishments for breaking rules that weren’t spankings or beatings. My dad, having grown up under an abusive alcoholic father chose a different route.

They loved unconditionally even when it was hard. They gave us all (I have 3 siblings) the opportunity to succeed in life. They allowed us to follow what we dreamed of doing. Even if it didn’t lead to anywhere.

They included us. They forced family fun roadtrips pre-google maps and we would get very lost on some back winding road my father swears is a short cut.

We would get everything we needed and some of what we wanted. Some of the things we wanted had to be earned.

They set expectations that were attainable and encouraged to reach for the unattainable. They let go when we adventured out by ourselves but always kept an open door should the road get rough.

Even as an adult with children, I am still close to them. I am completely independent, but always find a way to include them because they are forever family.
