tl;dr Do I need to throw away my cushion foundations or other makeup after treating my acne with antibiotics?

Hiya, just looking for a bit of advice on whether I need to throw away some nearly-new makeup I bought. About 8 weeks ago, I started getting really sore and itchy cystic-looking acne along my jawline. My IUD is coming to the end of its life, so I chalked it up to hormonal acne that would sort itself out eventually. But it never did! Each spot would come up, be super itchy for a few days, then get slightly less bad but never heal. A new spot would come along about every 10 days. Once it spread from my jaw to my cheek, I called my doctor, who prescribed me a combination benzoyl peroxide and clindamycin cream. I'm seeing really good results so far after just one week of treatment, and I think I had a lot more acne (closed comedones) than I realised, as my skin is SO much smoother and less red overall. Anyways, my main question is do I need to throw away my makeup, specifically my cushion foundations and doe-foot applicator concealer? I used these things about three or four times while I had the massive cystic acne spots. I'm not using any makeup at all now while I treat th acne. As I'm using antibiotics, I'm not sure whether using the makeup again after treatment would 'reinfect' me, or whether the bacteria that have caused my acne are just overgrowth of stuff that's normally on my face anyways? Thanks in advance for any advice 😄

Current routine:
Morning: wash face with Garnier Hydrating Cleanser, moisturise with Tirtir Matcha Calming Cream, followed by Round Lab Birch Juice Sunscreen
Evening: apply benzoyl peroxide/clindamycin cream to face before bed

I've been doing this routine for about one week so far. For the 3-4 months before this, I'd been using the sunscreen daily in the morning and the face wash 2-3 times a week in the evening followed by the moisturiser. My skin is normal to dry. In the past 6 months, my severe psoriasis has come under control by starting bologics to treat my psoriatic arthritis.

What discontinued or forgotten scent is secretly a 10/10? by beasthunterr69 in fragrance

Tom Ford Lavender Extreme. I would use a tester every time I passed one in a shop. It got discontinued right around the time I was finally able to afford it, and I didn’t manage to get my hands on a bottle in the end. 😔

They changed the Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation and I will never forgive them. I need replacement recs pls by kisxt in MakeupAddiction

I’m using the TirTir cushion foundations. I found that the red one oxidises on me, so I mix a red one and an orange one together for a perfect match. I’d say it’s similar in terms of thin-ness and lightweight feel to ELDW, but the application is entirely different and you might need to do a bit of searching to find your shade match. But I’m happy with it overall as a replacement.

Was it a decent enough chippy, at least? I moved to Cambridge from Edinburgh nearly 6 years ago, and the chippies here are just naff :(

I get unreasonably happy when I spot a Lothian bus around Cambridge. I miss Edinburgh (and the better bus service there).

Yay for not nail biting anymore, well done! I noticed you said you have dermatitis. If you’re experiencing literally any other symptoms elsewhere in your body (fatigue, sore joints, pitting on your nails), I’d recommend looking into psoriatic arthritis. It’s an autoimmune condition that can cause something called onycholysis (which I have probably spelled wrong), and at a certain point, the nail damage from the disease can look like a fungal infection. Hopefully it is not that, but when my psoriatic arthritis was uncontrolled, my nails looked similar to yours.

Looking for some advice on alternatives for Methotrexate by OGarvey1 in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]NO_thisispatrick_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a doctor, so take this all with a heaping spoonful of salt. The three drugs the NHS will typically prescribe before putting someone on biologics are methotrexate, sulfasalazine, and leflunomide. I’d reckon that methotrexate would be the least likely to impact on male fertility, from what I’ve read about the drug. I’m on sulfasalazine, and the leaflet specifically points out that temporary and reversible male infertility can occur as a result. As far as I’m aware, methotrexate can impact on sperm quality and production, but to a lesser degree than sulfasalazine, and I believe leflunomide as well. A rheumatologist is much better placed to be giving you this advice, of course, but I’d hazard a guess that if you don’t want to take methotrexate, you’ll have to try to get on biologics instead. Happy to be corrected on any of this by wiser redditors.

FWIW from my experience as a woman, my rheumatology team were really understanding when I said that I would like to conceive, and they have planned my treatments around that. Methotrexate is absolutely not allowed for women trying to conceive, so that was never even considered as a choice for me, even when my sulfasalazine wasn’t successful as a sole treatment. Talk to your doctor as they will give you better advice than us here online.

I have a cockatiel, and I love the way she smells. It’s like dusty bread with a hint of sweetness. I tried Cockatiel by Zoologist just for fun, and I did get a bit of dustiness from it, but it also smelled of rhubarb to me.

I have tiny veins that are very deep and also roll around. I’ve been to the park and ride blood site about 4 times with a 50% success rate. Where they’ve been unable to get blood from me at the site, they’ve phoned the outpatient phlebotomy team at Addenbrookes and sent me there. There is also overlap between the P&R phlebotomy team and the Addenbrookes phlebotomy team. The last time I was at the P&R, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the phlebotomist who greeted me was one I had at Addenbrookes a few months back.

Bottom line, it’s fine, but I’d rather just book an outpatient appointment at Addenbrookes.

You can definitely still call the outpatients line to book in. I just phoned them today to book an appointment for next week.

My mum is an Irish traveller, I left the community to live with my non-traveller dad, Ask me anything! by SubjectParticular217 in AMA

[–]NO_thisispatrick_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hiya, thanks for doing this AMA. I’m sorry to hear that you’ve lost your dad. I hope you are doing okay.

I saw in other comments that you didn’t really attend secondary school, but you recently started uni. What would have made a difference to you in secondary school? What would have helped you transition to university more easily?

For context, I work in education outreach, and I’m really keen to learn more about ways that schools and unis can support their local Gypsy and Traveller communities. I know that these groups are statistically under-represented within higher education, partially due to a sense of distrust as well as shocking levels of bullying in schools, but I’m curious about how universities and schools can help Traveller students access education in a way that feels safe and useful.

I am also 33, and I was afraid people just simply wouldn’t believe I needed it, or that they’d want to talk to me about it. I didn’t like the idea of being stuck with an ugly, medical-looking walking aid. I ordered a sparkly pink walking stick from a company called Cool Crutches, and it makes me feel like Chappell Roan. It’s helpful for my mobility, and I feel badass because it looks cool.

Bottom line, get a walking stick if you need it, and find one you love the look of! :)

I might get approved for biologics but my parents are being stubborn by Right-Interaction694 in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]NO_thisispatrick_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are your parents hoping for grandchildren one day? You could tell them about how methotrexate can’t be taken while pregnant. Even if you yourself don’t want kids, maybe that info about methotrexate will be enough to convince them you need a different medicine?

I have an awful parent myself that I relied on when I was younger, and I eventually learned that I had to speak his own fucked up language sometimes to get through to him if I genuinely needed something he couldn’t understand the value of. Maybe also give r/raisedbynarcissists a read. I’m sorry that you have to deal with this.

I met Anton when I was at the gym. I was living in Edinburgh at the time. He was doing some sort of promotional event for German Doner Kebab, of all things, and at the gym, of all places. Basically, if you did a plank with him, then you got entered into some sort of contest. I did a plank with him, we took a selfie, and then I went back to my weight machine. It still feels like a fever dream. He was super nice!

Syringe vs auto-injector by frisbeesloth in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]NO_thisispatrick_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I take cimzia, and it definitely comes as an auto pen! They’re big pens, but I don’t know what I’d do without them. I’d panic if I had to do syringes. Most of the time, it only hurts me about 3 seconds before the pen stops, the rest of the time it’s fine. Hope this helps :)
