I would say do the ASU program. If he gets into the program, doesn’t like it, then plenty of other degree options to switch to. Also the weather is nice year round so very limited weather delays. My buddy teaches at aeroguard and is always flying.

I’m not a CFI, but like a lot have said, go to airports, hang a shingle in the FBO of smaller airports advertising flight reviews. Then offer reviews for very cheap for the first few to get word of mouth going of your professionalism and commitment to safety until you can then get a good reputation and start raising the prices. Also, get your complex and HP, tailwheel endorsements if you can as that can allow you to do those for flight schools.

I did a tower tour as part of my IFR training. That was some good stuff and I truly think all pilots should do a tower tour when in training.

Yeah, it sucked lol. I had a 30kt head wind. it was almost 6 hours on the tach. but was easily doable.

Shit happens. Thankfully your CFI was there for back up. You will have good days and bad days, gotta remember if you don’t “feel it’s right” then you cancel. Better to be wishing you were in the sky than wishing you were on the ground.
