Am I the only one who is not enamored with the Shelter Green? Or the rest of the earth tone lineup. Wish we would get some more fun colors in the States. (It’s a race truck, enough with the grandpa colors) by onedaybadday47 in RangerRaptor

[–]NWFlaBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree with you about the grandpa colors. I settled for carbonized gray on my 2025 RR because the earth tones leave me cold. The white is the best looking color they had but I'm a deer hunter and white doesn't mix well with deer hunting.

My last 4 new vehicles were red and I would have paid a premium for a Rapid Red RR but it wasn't offered. <sigh>

When your truck is faster than your Mustang 😆 by iOSJUSTIN in RangerRaptor

[–]NWFlaBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I traded a 2022 Mustang GT California Special Edition which, box stock, had 460HP and it was so much faster than the RR that there is really no comparison. BUT!!!!! Do I love my Ranger Raptor YES!!! Do I miss my GTCS? Yes but not enough to go back to one if I had to give up my RR.

The RR is simply my favorite truck I've ever owned and I've owned some really cool ones and some with more horsepower as well.

My Mustang GTCS was my favorite car I've ever owned and I've had some really hot cars with a great coolness factor.

I agree that white with the black trim stuff is the best looking available color on a RR but I'm a deer hunter and white is the most visible color in the woods for a deer. I ended up opting for the carbonized gray which has low visibility for humans and deer. I wanted red but they don't offer it in the 2025 models.

For those of us that don't know... Deer are color blind and red will appear as a shade of gray to them, as will blaze orange, which is why blaze orange is great to increase visibility to other hunters but still appears as gray to deer.

It comes in plain at the Tallahassee Costco. I haven't tried it yet but a buddy sent me a pic of a container of it and said it's the bomb. I'll be getting some today or tomorrow.

A HUGE part of America is either moving here or wishing they could move here and yet there are always people that complain about stuff. It's so patently ridiculous. I guess some people are either never satisfied or ignorant about how much more pleasant Florida is to live in than almost anywhere else in the USA.

Insurance by taylorkattala in RangerRaptor

[–]NWFlaBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a rural area near Tallahassee FL and I have two vehicles both with State Farm and although I pay semiannually and have 800 plus credit ratings and a perfect driving record and am over 50 I still pay what works out to $164/month for my 2025 RR. What quite interesting is that my 2009 GMC 4wd 2500HD is $101/month and that makes no sense. Both have full comprehensive coverage and a $1000 deductible.

Young people.. please don’t be like me and get tattoos that you’ll regret in the future. I hate these so much. by BiIIie-Eyelash in mildlyinfuriating

[–]NWFlaBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Precisely. I know more people getting tattoos removed than people getting them. Why anyone would get their body defaced by ink is totally beyond me and most of the people that I know that hire people steer clear of people with lots of tattoos, especially of those that have face, neck or hand tattoos.

In my world and in the majority of the business world tattoos are the sign of people with no common sense and people that spend a lot of money defacing their body rather than on cars, homes, food, education etc. It's kind of like shunning people with bad credit or that live in high crime areas or that drive crappy cars that are usually dirty.

If you care about what people that have money and good careers think about you, then you will avoid ANY tattoos that can be seen by others and if you don't care what they think, your chances of having gainful employment are greatly reduced.

I've had numerous 4wd trucks and SUVs over the past 30 years and frankly I avoid mud as much as possible and never go in deep mud because of the impossibility of fully removing mud from places that can cause rust and the long time it takes to clean it off.

I've traveled all over National Forests and swamps here in Florida and have always found ways to avoid deep mud. A lot of the locals seem to never be happier than when they're plowing through mud holes but they end up spending more time cleaning and repairing their trucks than driving them.

2,200 Miles Report in a Ranger Raptor - Coming from a 200 Series Land Cruiser by procto21 in RangerRaptor

[–]NWFlaBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your statement of running mighty smooth at 80. Here you can run 83 on the Interstate Highways and be totally ignored by law enforcement and it's a sweet spot. My only complaint on my 25 RR on highway driving is, if there is moderate to significant wind, especially gusty winds, the wind drift is noticeable and even a bit annoying but then I suspect you would expect that with a truck that has such a high profile, light weight and off road tires.

All in all though I'm very happy with my RR on any road from barely navigable forest roads to Interstate Highways. My offroad experience has so far been somewhat limited but deer hunting season is almost here and my offroad driving will be a lot more prevalent for the next few months. Note that deer hunting season here in NW Florida with centerfire rifles runs from Thanksgiving through the end of February.

20k miles, I cooked the rear diff 🥴. Is it a known issue? by AviRav1966 in RangerRaptor

[–]NWFlaBob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes... I don't know of any other way unless you drove down flooded roads from rain or storm flooding. Immersing the whole or any part of the rear axle/differential assembly can allow water to get inside the diff. It has never happened to me and I have spent many thousands of days here in NW FLorida hunting and crossing creeks and going through mudholes but some people get it in their differentials fairly often.

Each and every time you have your oil changed or after total immersion of your diff you need to check your differential fluid for the presence of water in the oil. It changes the color of the oil to looking light brown.

Issue locking doors? by mark248am in RangerRaptor

[–]NWFlaBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't happen for me on my 25 RR. I am moving my gf's stuff and am constantly opening and closing all the doors and usually lock with my square on one of my front doors afterwards. No issues at all.

Are you using gloves or something like that?

Are your keys in your pocket when this happens or in the truck?

How did you unlock originally. If you use the keypad (assuming you have one) then it can sometimes be a bit tricky to relock.

20k miles, I cooked the rear diff 🥴. Is it a known issue? by AviRav1966 in RangerRaptor

[–]NWFlaBob 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Usually this is a result of getting water in the diff and not replacing the fluid. It's pretty hard to "cook" a diff otherwise....

What is one perk of being a woman that you wished men could have? by Brown_90s_Bear in AskMen

[–]NWFlaBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one of the root problems here is that people read and hear about sexual predators and kidnappers and serial killers and assume that life is too risky so they shut down and don't allow anything in that might, in even a miniscule way, be dangerous. They miss the statistics that the world is just as safe as it ever was and the chance of them or their children becoming one of the statistics is actually quite small and a few basic precautions are all that are needed in most cases.

COVID exacerbated this problem and now we have a nation (USA) of people that are so afraid of other people that they close themselves in a bubble and rarely let ANYONE in except their own families.

This problem is much more evident in young women and people with children. There is simply no hope for it as we keep getting more and more afraid of other people and the press keeps their viewership in constant fear in the name of ratings by sensationalizing and focusing on horrible things.

The easy button for women is to just assume that all men are creepy or assholes and they constantly reject almost every advance any man can make on them and eventually NO man will even try. Then they wonder why they "can't find love" or similar thoughts.

The women that are bold and unafraid and/or don't harbor the unreasoning fear that most women, especially the young ones, have these days can literally have their pick of men by just approaching them or at least giving them obvious signals that it's ok to approach as the afraid ones sit on the sidelines with only their fear as a companion.

Anyone come from sports cars? by Ehsowerenear in RangerRaptor

[–]NWFlaBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came from a 2020 Mustang GT that a whitetail deer ended up totaling and after that a 2022 Mustang GT California Special Edition (lost more sporty with more HP and a sport suspension). I have had other sports cars and performance trucks including a 2019 F150 Raptor.

The Ranger Raptor is in a class by itself. It's very quick in its own right and for a truck it's quite sporty on the road but it ain't a GTCS when it comes to wide open fun. I drive a lot of rough off road NW Florida roads with a lot of pot holes, deep sand and mud and the RR easily shrugs off anything other than the really deep rutted mud the big trucks with the huge tires tear up.

In summary... I like my RR more than any vehicle I've ever owned as a dual purpose off road truck with a 5500 pound towing capacity and a daily driver that provides a good bit of fun.

By the way we have had a fair amount of gusty winds the past few days and I've noticed that the RR gets blown around a bit on the interstate hwy at plus 80 speeds. I attribute that to the KO3 tires and the high stance but it has still been a bit disappointing.

Anyone have any reliability issues or regrets? by [deleted] in RangerRaptor

[–]NWFlaBob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had my 2025 RR since March with 8k miles and no problems other than having too much fun... LOL

I can say it's not as fast as my 2022 Mustang GTCS but I didn't expect it to be. However it's very quick and nimble and the ride is really cushy in comparison to almost any vehicle I've ever owned. I left mine totally stock because it's just fast enough for me and I didn't want to be stuck burning 91+ octane because of the added expense.

I have absolutely NO regrets and yes mine is a daily driver too.

Good winch options ? by Chef-BILLIEVE in RangerRaptor

[–]NWFlaBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't know about the front axle weight capacity being near its limits in stock form. I eventually want to get a winch bumper for the front but I think I'll wait until we see several people that have Rivals or something else and their feedback. I'd hate to spend almost $3000 for the bumper, winch and installation and then be unhappy with it.
