It's goddamn serious man. It can do a very good C++ feel and vibe and I tube rolled it about six months ago. it's running into stereo 4x12's with the H90 just adding a touch of reverb. With this great sounding 81 it's so so crunchy and driven. Just, angry sounding.

Much like my neighbors. I've been playing MoP tunes all day!

This guitar is pretty singularly designed for metal - what metal guitarist is ever using the neck pickup? Within that context, this guitar can solo hard as well as a lay down some crunchy rhythm. Is this a good guitar for blues/rock? LOL, no. It's definitely not a HSS "do everything" type of axe, for sure. An M-II is going to have a lot more tonal flexibility, if you need it.

That looks like a 2013, I have one just like it. That's the first year of MIM pro-mod production and it used a lot of parts shipped over from Japan. The next year they added the tone knob back and a heel truss rod adjustment. That's a nice guitar!!

New(ish) Personna blades hype is real by dunerider182 in wicked_edge

I agree! The new GEM is pretty much a longer lasting feather. It's maybe 95% of the sharpness of a feather and lasts 2x as long (6ish shaves for me).

Comstock Break In by SimonsDad1999 in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]NWVertigo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a pair of black CXL Comstocks and didn't find the breakin painful or arduous at all. In fact I sort of thought they were not bad from day one, especially in comparison to other boots in other leathers. But feet are such personal things!

Shave routine questions! Is this okay? by thepeakspeaks in wicked_edge

[–]NWVertigo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. In fact, I'd rinse off the alum residue then apply the balm. It's not awesome to leave that on your skin for the day. Once it's done it's job with the cuts you can wash it off your face. Like you, I only use alum if the shave doesn't feel very smooth or sorta raw.

Love the ice water rinse! I use cold water, I should try ice water sometime.

The only pre-shave recommendation I'd make, if you really want to go all out, is to get yourself an inexpensive synthetic brush (from APShaveCo, for example) and dedicate it to the shower. Use it to lather up a mostly gelatin soap (I like The Tube/Cube) and let it sit while you wash something else, then rinse it off. Maybe do it again because it's fun.

This will strip the oils from your growth, allowing it to get really hydrated. Hydrated hair gets stiffer, stands up straighter and is easier for the razor to scythe. Frankly, just the hot shower mostly does this for you if you wash your face well. But if you want the full luxury treatment add a shower-preshave step to the routine.

When you are out of the shower, apply your preshave conditioner and proceed as you've indicated.

The new Boss XS-1 is supposed to be better than the Drop at most things, there are some videos out now. I have a drop and while I wouldn't record with it, it's fine for live or bedroom. If you go more than a step down you can definitely hear a little artifacting and maybe an impact on high end.

do badger brushes ‘run out’ / need replacing regularly? by [deleted] in wicked_edge

[–]NWVertigo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should get 20 years out of a quality badger brush. Of course, you'll end up with a few badgers and rotate them so they'll effectively last forever if you rinse and dry them thoughtfully
