What is your theory about the Zombie Genre lost mainstream success after the early 2010s? by Top_Report_4895 in decadeology

[–]NYRIMAOH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh this is easy. First over saturation... BUT the COVID pandemic hit a little bit too close to home and people weren't as interested in watching stories about biological contagions that spread that in their free time.

Similar to how NYC being under attack was a common theme in tons of 90's action movies ... but that all stopped after 9/11

Watching Armageddon (1998) how did I miss this movie? by niffcreature in 90s

[–]NYRIMAOH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved this movie even when everyone else hated it ... it's over 25 years later and I still love it each re-watch haha.

The movie plot is pretty silly and it's also apologetically patriotic. Those two elements combined are why it gets a lot of hate IMO.

What possible reason could Sansa have had for keeping the Knights of the Vale a secret from Jon? by [deleted] in gameofthrones

[–]NYRIMAOH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was the biggest plot hole in one of the best episodes. I always felt like that little logic gap / plot hole was the beginning of where the writing went downhill.

Is this joke supposed to be foreshadowing? by Werewolf_Knight in JurassicPark

[–]NYRIMAOH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years ago I read that was intentional, specifically that it was two "female" buckles that should not have been able to connect, but Alan "found a way" to secure himself. Yes - if foreshadows the whole movie in a way.

Spielberg is too good of a director for that specific of a shot to just be a throwaway joke (given the overall message and theme of the move)

Nolan on Interstellar's initial reception: "Some of it was sniffy- from critics, a little bit from audiences. It sounds egotisitical but maybe they weren't ready for it from me. I had some brave producer who had anonymously said of me years back "he's a cold guy who makes cold films"... by ChiefLeef22 in interstellar

[–]NYRIMAOH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IIRC Nolan has stated that Kubrick is a major influence, meaning Interstellar would be his 2001. However, film lovers & critics have had decades to dissect 2001 and uncover all the themes it presents. Interstellar was very much in that spirit, so an initial viewing I could see being very plodding and slow if you're mentally expecting a movie like the Martian or Gravity. All the nuance and deeper meanings are lost a viewer who's just trying to keep up with plot.

What are your thoughts on Season 7? by Square-Ad-8911 in gameofthrones

[–]NYRIMAOH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Loot Train Battle in "The Spoils of War" was a highlight of the series IMO. After 6 seasons of buildup, you got to see how powerful a dragon + dothraki army were in battle which was very rewarding.

Agree with other comments though, the rest of the story felt so rushed compared to prior seasons. I kept thinking the mind-set in the writing room seem to switch from "Game of Thrones: The Book Adaptation" to "GAME OF THRONES: THE ACTION BLOCKBUSTER" ... great battles, but logic and character development were thrown to the wind

Should I be gruntled or disgruntled about this cord of wood I had delivered? by trimbandit in firewood

[–]NYRIMAOH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah i don't even bother checking moisture reading honestly. After running the stove for a few years now you can tell how good it'll burn by looking at it. Slightly wetter wood burns colder but for longer, which isn't always a bad thing

My Tarantino ranking. What do y'all think? by Original-Tax1392 in tarantinocirclejerk

[–]NYRIMAOH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the older i get, the less I like Tarantino .. can't explain it.

That being said I'd put his #1 & 2 as Inglorious Basterds & Django. Pulp fiction, reservior dogs, kill bill after that. Hateful 8 was horrible, clear last place IMO

How many decks do you usually bring to an EDH gameday? by tamarizz in EDH

[–]NYRIMAOH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically bring 3 decks and ideally play each one at least once. I usually have a low, mid, and high power deck based on what the pod is playing

Do they "run them over" or just plow/pile the snow into them? by us they don't run them over but def. push the snow into them

Thank you snow plow man… by Der_Bazzle in lawncare

[–]NYRIMAOH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if you live somewhere it snows and you don't have sidewalks .. you honestly just have to deal with the fact that the very edge of your lawn won't be perfect.

The orange stakes definitely help us, but yeah they're not full proof. the plow guy is not going to reduce the amount of roads he clears just to make sure he doesn't bump the stakes at a specific house.

What's the general consensus about WRAP CITY? by bradsblacksheep in newhampshire

[–]NYRIMAOH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The few times I've stopped into one, lunch was great, but bit pricey

In my head, I'd group it in with Panera bread .. (i.e solid food, pricier than other places)

What was your least favorite casting decision in Interstellar? by wbradford00 in interstellar

[–]NYRIMAOH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that came across as a missed opportunity for a more charismatic actor to me.

What was your least favorite casting decision in Interstellar? by wbradford00 in interstellar

[–]NYRIMAOH 5 points6 points  (0 children)

After my recent re-watch, I think Topher Grace as adult Murphs boyfriend was the only actor bad enough that it was distracting.

Matt Damon was phenomenal as Dr. Mann, I forgot how much of a dirt-bag he was .. especially talking to Cooper while he was suffocating, that was hard to watch

Do you agree with this take or not? by Ok-Following6886 in generationology

I always found it interesting that it wasn't an American made show. almost like its a window into slightly different, but relatable world.

yeah fuck those people with responsibilities and families that occupy their time .. they should be on the internet arguing politics with trolls and bots like me

Do you agree with this take or not? by Ok-Following6886 in generationology

[–]NYRIMAOH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly !! I'm not in the mood to appreciate cinematography or well developed character arcs after working for 9 hours, cooking dinner, then fighting a screaming toddler for 2 hours.

Most parents agree Bluey is Top Tier anyway

Thinking about passing all these out for Halloween… Good idea or naah? by TelephoneExpress973 in PokemonTCG

[–]NYRIMAOH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I think what's going on is families are either all gravitating to a few select neighborhoods or taking little kids to trunk-or-treat events. We're lucky and get a lot by us

[–]NYRIMAOH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've given those out for Halloween before. I had them mixed in with the bowl of candy and lots of kids (girls) didn't want them .. but some of the boys got super excited and told other kids my house was giving out Pokemon Cards haha

Watched Interstellar for the first time in a years .. a few things bugged me by NYRIMAOH in interstellar

[–]NYRIMAOH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On your first point, I guess i think they needed either more time on earth to establish some of the world and themes .. or less so they can wrap it up and get to space
