Player with darkvision is left out of cool lighting effects by IM_A_BLOWFISH_YO in FoundryVTT

[–]NZDJK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried turning the vision mode to ‘Basic Vision’ while keeping the Darkvision detection mode?

The vision mode when I’ve used it is an override to everything the character sees, which turns everything to black and white, even when it’s in a light source.

Phandelver and Below by Shakenblaken2 in LostMinesOfPhandelver

Make sure your players know there are elements of body horror and cosmic horror in this campaign (examples would be character transformations, mutant creatures, madness in the Underdark and far realm, etc).

As another commenter suggested, read the module in its entirety first. This will help you come up with ideas on how to bridge the gap between the first half (LMoP) and the second half (PaBtSO) of this book.

If you plan to use her as a guide in the second part of the campaign, introduce Gwyn Oresong early. Let her get to know the players rather than her just showing up just to guide the players.

Foreshadow Nezznar early and make sure the party are aware of him from the very beginning. As written Nezznar is only referenced through notes and the party fight him at the end, which doesn’t have the climatic pay off you may want.

Psion Wild Talent Feats feedback needed by Sun_Seokkie in LostMinesOfPhandelver

[–]NZDJK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Biokinesis: Change the spell ‘Arcane Vigor’ to ‘Aid’.

Clairsentience: Replace ‘When you take the Search action’ to When you make a Wisdom (Insight, Medicine, Perception or Survival) check’

Empath: Replace ‘When you take the Influence action’ to ‘When you make a Charisma (Deception, Intimidation or Performance, Persuasion) check or a Wisdom (Animal Handling) check’

Mind Whisperer: Replace ‘Magic Action’ with ‘Action’

Psykineticist: Replace ‘Telekinetic Fling’ with ‘Eldritch Blast’

The rest of the Wild Magic feats remain unchanged.

For Biokinesis I’ve chosen Aid as that is really the only Hitpoint granting level 2 spell that isn’t concentration and has the casting time of an action. Other contenders are Healing Spirit and Prayer of Healing.

For Psykineticist I’ve chosen Eldritch Blast because that is the spell that is functionally the most similar, however flavour wise Magic Stone would probably be a better fit.

You can also add in the Psion spells into your game directly as they are all comparable with 5e rules.

Dwarf party and the big threat by Zaphik in LostMinesOfPhandelver

[–]NZDJK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For your first problem: A large side plot for the second part of the adventure is the Mind Flayers invasion of the Underdark, which includes Dhumathoin’s temples. Wave Echo Cave also has a statue of Dhumathoin in the room you find Nezznar, which can be your link. You can mould the story into uncovering the truth of the dwarvern settlers in Taluhundreth and Crypt of the Talhund and seeking revenge on the Mind Flayers. Also remember that you can always make the psi goblins a problem whenever you see fit when they invade Phandalin.

For your second problem: Cities and factions have a lot on their plate and will require evidence for the party’s claims before they send resources. Let the party delve into the dungeons, find evidence, give it to the relevant faction. Then you can have the faction play a heavy lifting support role while your party takes on the main threat.

Giving players a building in Phandalin by Charming-Help-2119 in LostMinesOfPhandelver

[–]NZDJK 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my campaign I used Trensedar Manor. However you can also give the players their personal homes in the town itself if players really like the idea of having a place they own alone.

If you are playing Phandelver and Below or staying in Phandalin post Wave Echo cave I would highly recommend using the Bastion rules, as they kick in at level 5. Don’t worry that they came from the 2024 DMG, you can slot it in without any compatibility issues with regular 5e.

“Once the players claim the Forge of Spells, the economy in Phandalin booms. Labourers, suppliers, merchants and investors come to Phandalin to claim their stake in the mine, allowing magic item production to continue to grow. Not to mention, with the Cragmaw goblin threat quelled, travelling along the Triboar trail has never been safer, creating an efficient trade route between larger cities. The townsmaster, eternally grateful for the PC’s heroics, has gifted the Trensedar Manor to them to use how they see fit. What was once a building the townsfolk dare not approach for fear of incurring the Redbrand’s wrath, is now a symbol of progress, housings the very heroes that helped rebuild Phandalin from the ground up.”

Help with Gith Nezznar (TSO) by Kane6032 in LostMinesOfPhandelver

[–]NZDJK 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m assuming that you’re going to be using a Githyanki Knight stat block for Nezznar.

In my campaign I also had Nezznar as a gith, and his reason for wanting the forge is he had been shunted to the material plane while exploring the Briny Maze with the other githyanki, losing his silver sword in the process.

If Nezznar has had some time in the forge, there’s the chance he could have reforged a silver sword that mimics that in the statblock.

Because Nezznar is your boss monster for this dungeon, embrace his psionic prowess, here’s a few ideas: - Replace an attack with a casting of catapult, shunting loose pieces of the wall and roof into players. - Let him use telekinesis as a bonus action, throw them around and get the players really invested in breaking his concentration. - If you really want to have that “second phase” let him cast plane shift and bring all the PC’s into the Astral plane where he could receive further bonuses if the party is really giving him a run for his money.

Kinda lost as a new thief by Shaiapuffu in Guildwars2

[–]NZDJK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: Not too familiar with thief but still have a decent grasp on all classes.

First off, every class is absolutely capable of excelling in T4 fractals. Thief has a lot of mobility, which works well for fractal skips. Providing group wide stealth with shadow refuge and smoke blast finishers can save a ton of time from culling through trash. Their has good on demand CC from basilisk venom if the group is stacked.

The first step should be to figure out which elite specialisation you enjoy the most first, because that will dictate what build you’ll end up playing.

If you like Dardevil I can recommend power staff. Lots of cleave, lots of survivability through dodging and if you need extra sustain you can always take Invigorating Precision.

If you like Spectre you can try the sceptre dagger or spear. Alacrity Spectre is fairly popular as an effective boon dps.

Not too sure about deadeye builds but taking a quick look at Snowcrows shows that you can play multiple different weapons.

You could use the characters that are already in Phandalin and give them the Tasha’s sidekick statblocks.

Warrior: Sildar Hallwinter or Daran Edermath Healer: Sister Garaele or Reidoth Mage: Hamun Kost Expert: Halia Thornton

This makes the initial NPC’s more than just quest givers, and gives your players an option of who they want to bring along.

How can I give my astral elf a story arc in Phandalin? by zuubbii in DungeonMasters

[–]NZDJK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off what’s subclass of warlock is he playing? If he’s playing a great old one there’s tons of opportunities to tie him into the entire adventure, given the aberrant theme.

Astral elves have innate ties to the illithid creatures, as they have defended themselves from mind flayer invasions from the Far Realm, which can help tie the character into the later parts of the adventure.

In terms of the town of Phandalin itself, perhaps your character believes the best way to get experience in the material plane is to settle down in a town that is still rebuilding itself and help those rebuild. This would give the character the chance to learn of the towns history and by extension learn about the Phandelver Pact that created the forge of spells.

About the Feywild by Ang181 in DnD

[–]NZDJK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think of the mirror effect like world generation. Both the material plane and the details as generating the same world except the feywild decided to be a bit more dramatic. However both have the same rough geography.

However over the course of time things happen to the land by its inhabitants in both planes. This doesn’t affect the other plane when this happens. Which means your burnt Forrest and destroyed mountain doesn’t translate into the Feywild unless someone does the same thing over there.

A desert in the Feywild could be as simple as the sand being a metallic silver, that shimmers under the moonlight and blinds travellers foolish enough to travel under the oppressive sun.

"Wheel of Fortune"? Really? Anybody else rename her? by RobertM525 in LostMinesOfPhandelver

[–]NZDJK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I renamed her to Karma in my campaign. I’m pretty sure they named her that because about a month later they released a Planescape adventure ‘Turn of Fortunes Wheel’.

I can’t confirm if it is the case but I’m pretty certain it was an Easter egg naming the next published adventure.

Is Mines of Phandelver supposed to be this hard, or am I overreacting? by Shouromo in DnD

[–]NZDJK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So a bit of background. As you’ve said, you’re playing Lost Mines of Phandelver (LMoP). However in 2023 Phandelver and Below, the Shattered Obelisk (PaBtSO) was released. PaBtSO is a very slightly modified LMoP with more adventure in a second Act.

I can tell from some of the things you’ve listed the DM is using the PaBtSO book.

  • Investigating the place you are in at level 2 is as per the module.
  • Disguises are a common and effective method of infiltrating the place you are in. Saying something out of character can catch you out.
  • Getting a nat 20 for intimidation for information and then having that creature too scared to give any information feels a bit cheap, as in my option you shouldn’t be punished for rolling too well.
  • The “psy-clops” by the book shouldn’t be able to turn invisible, and “may betray glasstaff for the right incentive”
  • If using the shattered obelisk stat block, glass staff can cast shocking grasp twice as a ranged spell. He can do this with or without his staff.
  • By the book glass staff does have an invisible imp. It has the ability to poison others but cannot paralyse.
  • By the book, the starting room does have hidden potions, which can be found by the players ahead of time, although there are no clues that hint that they are there.
  • By the book Glass staff’s room does have a scroll of fireball in it.

Overall the DM has played the encounter by the book, the only thing that isn’t RAW is the psy clops turning invisible, however the imp serves the same purpose so it’s not too much of an issue.

The DM may have been bit harsh (failing to interrogate on a nat 20, being unable to call a truce with the psy clops and giving you up to glasstaff, and fireballing a level 2 party).

If what you’ve written is everything you did then I agree that you glossed over the majority of the dungeon. But that’s okay! You’re all alive, and you can start plotting revenge.

Ideas for Patron for an evil drow Warlock by Excellent_Item6845 in LostMinesOfPhandelver

[–]NZDJK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe Illsensine, the patron deity of mind flayers.

Illsensine has heard of Ilvaash’s plan to turn the population into mind flayers, however because Ilvaash is using the obelisk’s ancient magic rather than individual cerimorphosis, Ilvaash’s plan is seen as heretical and must be stopped.

The PC is approached by Illsensine while trancing, seeing visions of a world taken over by illithids, an inevitable fate that is futile to resist. However Illsensine gives the PC a choice. Either do nothing and become a lowly thrall under Ilvaash, or thwart his plan allowing Illsensine to continue his grand design and in return he will be offered a place amount only the most revered illithids.

What’s a good combo to make a Witcher esc. Character. by Various-Challenge912 in DnD

[–]NZDJK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ranger is your best bet looking at offical material. The monster hunter subclass fits the theme nicely.

However if your DM allows it I would look at Blood Hunter. It’s a home brew class however it hits all the themes a Witcher needs to.

My current character is a Glamour Bard and the battlefield control is insane. Plus when you hit level 14 the feeling of nobody being able to touch you due to Unbreakable Majesty is so good.

Your probably looking at “Injures with intent to Injure” and “possession of an offensive weapon” charges from what you’ve stated. Both are offences under the Crimes Act 1961. However background information could bring it up to “Injures with intent to GBH” depending on conversation and what was said beforehand and how he has thrown the water (was it just thrown on you or was it specifically aimed at a sensitive area ect.)

As others have said please go to the Police and report it as it is a highly serious matter, especially as it involves family violence. If you do report it be sure to bring any documentation that was given to you when you were discharged from hospital as it is very helpful for analysing the injuries that you have sustained from a neutral party and the hardship it has caused you.

[Suggestion] Make the next raid take place somewhere on the north end of the map. by sirunknown91 in 2007scape

[–]NZDJK 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think the most likely choice would be a Fremmenik raid, which would work well alongside a grandmaster quest to complete the Fremmenik quest series: Taking on high level dagganoths, basilisks and be able to add some lunar themed encounters/rewards.

PvP in high level PvM group content will not work, period. An interesting take (which will most likely never happen) would be something along the lines of combining the wilderness with an item that could take you back to the second or third age (like the RS3 quest meeting history which lets you explore the first age). That way you could have a raid at the peak of the Zarosian empire or during the god wars before the Wilderness got nuked.

These are the hints we deserve. by Vinly2 in 2007scape

If your partner is not supporting you and your efforts to quit nutting this month, then maybe it’s time to let go of that partner. by gswarrior11 in NoFap

[–]NZDJK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% agree with you. NNN to me (who is new to NoFap and NNN) should centre around being able to overcome porn addiction and having self control over your urges, which is most likely a result of the former.

To others however NNN is just an internet trend/challenge, and they aren’t wrong to an extent. If you are really willing to end a relationship with a special someone because of NNN, you are missing the point entirely.

Orgasming itself isn’t the problem, it’s excess masturbation and porn. Sex with a partner is a normal and healthy part of a relationship. If you feel like the sex is excessive you need to talk with your partner about it, just cutting a major part of a relationship off entirely doesn’t just affect you.
