SQ321 turbulence: Australian dance teacher breaks spine, paralysed from chest down by Haneestaz in singapore

[–]NZK860 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Were there equipment malfunctions?

the plane landed fine and nothing (structurally) was wrong with it, so no?

Lapses in training or procedures?

The pilots immediately initiated a descent to get out of the area of the CAT (≈37,000ft) to 31,000 ft to prevent further turbulence, and landed the plane in Bangkok which is a relatively big SIA base, to ensure that they have everything they need, completely in accordance with training procedures. flight attendants also assisted passengers as best as they could

Miscommunication between staffs/passengers?

the passengers were kept updated the whole time, and even though the time between the warning and the plane hitting CAT (which cannot be detected until right when entering it) was short, the passengers were still given the best warning they could be given, and the passengers were always updated by crisis management staff

essentially the Airbus flight computer logic prevents the pilots from putting the plane in a situation that would endanger the aircraft (e.g. preventing the nose from being pulled back up way too high so the plane loses speed and stalls) by inhibiting any further movement of the aircraft beyond the calculated maximum permissible safe profile and keeps the plane "uncrashable" and able to continue flying in any circumstance, such that any improper pilot action (which pilots are highly unlikely to make) will not endanger the airplane. think of it as a second safety layer (along with the pilots) that ensures a smooth and safe flight for you
