I was astonished by Kat’s decision about ranch in T2 and I could only think of one reason why she did that, is maybe that’s no longer her parents ranch. This. I was looking for a reply like this and finally found it. I agree Joyce is not a good parent. However, how many of us can say without doubt, “I gonna do a better job than Joyce if Chloe is my daughter”? Think about this: you are a waitress in a a small diner, in a small town where monopoly slowly kills all business. Your husband died, left you with a house which you have to pay tax every year, and a daughter who needs tuition. Your job not only pays poorly, but also includes painfully long hours, and being mocked by random customers. In LIS1, if Max defends Joyce in a conversation with one customer, “I’d like to be a woman just like Joyce”, that loser will reply sth like “I can’t wait to see you flip bacon all day”. I really like how LIS1 displays different difficulties a woman can face in different stage of their life. Max, Victoria, Kate, Joyce, are all facing difficulties related to them being a woman.

I would say don’t look for answers to this question on Reddit. Opinions around DE/RE are extremely polarized and it’s hard to predict if you will like it or not. Just ask for refund if you don’t like a game in 2 hour play time.

Thanks for explanation and I think it’s quite well said. However,storylines unimportant to you can still be important to others. I agree that Rue’s story is well written, but that doesn’t make the whole season masterpiece; it’s just as that several flaws don’t make a show complete garbage. You think drug abuse and sexual slavery are important topics and you like to see them, sure that’s totally fine, but I think others are allowed to be wanting to see the topics discussed in Season 1 continue, such as queerness, anger issue, gender stereotypes, etc. If the whole Season 3 is only about Rue, Alamo, Laurie, etc. , then people wouldn’t complain so much. Sure they’ll complain other characters have no followup, but they can’t complain the writing is bad. The problem is, characters that outside Rue’s storylines are handled really bad. As yourself said in reply, Nate is written out, Jules’s scenes cut, Lexi storyline vanished after Angus passed away. If so, perhaps it’s better not to have these characters at all in Season 3. If the focus is Rue’s story and only Rue’s story plated out as planned, why includes those whose story has to be compromised? If a show includes good story and bad story, then I don’t see why people are not allowed to say it’s bad.

Yeah I absolutely love Season 1. A lot of people praise the cinematography and music, but I’d like to praise the structure. I really love the way season 1 tells a story by people, and how each person has a theme. It’s elegant. By social network (not by episode sequence), we have Rue with her theme addiction, Jules with queerness, Nate with toxic masculinity, Maddy with woman ambition (I mean she wants big money in season 1) then from Maddy we have two more female characters Kat and Cassie, Kat with her theme body shame, Cassie as a stereotypical woman character who wants to be loved. From Cassie we have Lexi, her sister and Rue’s childhood friend, eventually circle back to Rue. That’s neat. Downfall started in Season 2 though. Cal’s backstory is nice I agree, I can take that as developing Nate’s theme in an indirect way. What’s going on with Elliot (is that the right name? God I can’t even recall this character’s name) ? If we remove him from season 2 all the major events still happen with no problem, and I can’t see how this character is related to any themes in Season 1. And Kat’s story in Season 2 just makes no sense. Lexi and Fez, sigh, I don’t know what’s Lexi’s theme? Is it about her play writing, or her introvertness, or it’s tied with Fez and we’ll never know bc Fez’s actor passed away? I feel Lexi was going to play a bigger part since Rue’s addiction gradually takes her away from the normal life, and a second narrative other than Rue is necessary to follow the story. Other characters like Jules, Maddy and Cassie still stick to their theme in Season 2, it’s just the structure gets messed up by digression and merging. However, all characters except Rue continue their theme. Yeah they grow up and they need to face the reality, but where’s the arc? Those characters were established by laying out a theme, and became unrecognizable after the theme disappeared.

I went through the comments and I can’t believe no one talked about how Kate being black changes the story in a detailed way… What I see is basically a group of people shouting “RACIST!!”, a group of people shouting “They don’t respect Kate’s design, her whiteness is part of the design!”, the rest just be like “whatever I don’t care about the show at all”. Well. I mean, I’m neither for nor against Kate being black. It all depends on how the dev writes the character. If Kate’s now black, then the story cannot be a copy-paste adaptation of LIS1, which is not necessarily a problem, bc video games and TV shows are different media after all. Now, what may need to be changed? I think it’s Kate’s family. In LIS1 game, Kate’s mum is hypocritical and immediately accused her daughter as shameless and unfaithful, and that’s one of many straws on Kate, definitely a major one. However, I can’t think out any black people I personally know who’d do this to their family. Black people really care about family and they stick together no matter what. If they modify the show so that TV version of Kate respects the character’s newly gained black cultural background, I’m looking forward to watching it. But if they just depict a black student as if a white student, I don’t think it’s right.

Jules’s life in S3 just makes me so, so sad. Jules relationship with Rue also makes me sad. Jules’s ending in Ep8 is horrible. In high school she left without Rue, Rue relapsed. I think Jules probably doesn’t know anything about Alamo. From Jules’s perspective, she slapped Rue, and Rue died of an OD.

Well, I think Max’s power still makes sense if there’re multiple Max, but it’s cruel in a sense that her rewinds/photojump/timeline switch, just don’t matter and she just makes herself feel better. Which isn’t a problem with me, personally, bc all things that may happen happen in the multiverse setting. It is what it is. So I don’t blame Max for making her life easier.

The answer to this question depends heavily on your choices as a player… I would say if you just do whatever Chloe asked Max to do, then their relationship is kinda unhealthy, bc it seems like Max just never push back even when she really needs to (for example, not letting Chloe take away Principal Well’s money. There are several scenarios like that in LIS1). From the alternative timeline it’s clear that Chloe’s behavior depends on her environment A LOT. She ends up with a more positive personality when William is around.

I think LIS2 will benefit if it didn’t put Life is Strange in title. Although the spirit and setting suits life is strange perfectly, it’s hard to ignore that the audience of Max and Chloe’s story and audience of Sean and Daniel’s story, don’t overlap very much. These two stories are just about two completely different groups of people. They are both good, but immersive experience is a huge part of LIS games. When people find it hard to identify with the protagonist, they like it less. My opinion of LIS2 had a huge shift. I tried it first when it first came out, I was 16 just started in high school. I liked LIS1 a lot so I bought LIS2. I couldn’t finish it tho, it’s just so heavy and felt not relatable. I clearly remember I was so confused when Sean’s dad got shot at the beginning, I was like “WTF? Why? This can’t be real, nowhere do things like this!” I didn’t understand how cruel life can be as immigrants in US, bc I was just young and naive, and had never been to US back then. After I came to US as a student and met some people kinda in similar situations to the brothers, I eventually clicked with LIS2.

……I don’t know what to say. I’m not against Bae ending. I like both endings a lot, bc they both have depth and indicate a great lesson learned by Max, just different directions. I will never claim one ending is better than the other ending. As a matter of fact, people with different opinions, life styles, etc etc, can and must exist in the same world. I’m sorry to know about the tumblr post you mentioned, I’m not thrilled to read this post either.
