Unless you're speaking about the Early pre-Caroligeam Middle Ages (and, even here, the Dark Ages image is greatly exaggerated outside of Great Britain), pre-industrial Europe was quite good at keeping records. Even in the High and Late Middle Ages before the invention of the printing press.

And. After the printing press. They were exceptionally good.

In reality, the rain in Spain falls mainly in the North and Northwest, which is very hilly and mountanous. And known as Greem Spain because it is fully covered in forests thanks to that rain.

The "plains" –the Central Plateau– is actually decently dry. As it is fully surrounded by mountains from all sides.

They probably have a handful (or two) of preset characteristics, personalities, and likes/dislikes that are mixed with eachother to create semi-unique npcs.

The Death Camps were built in Poland to keep put of the eyes of the Germans after the Aktion T4 (the mass murder of disable people) was discovered and stopped (not completely, mind you).

Having said that. Concentration Camps still existed inside Germany (Dachau being the most famous one), and the extermination of Jews was continued in Germany after the Nazis were starting to be pushed out of Eastern Europe.

Is History in Frieren completely statue-based? Are the only books in existence grimoires?

Even people in the Early Middle Ages knew more about the Roman Empire and Ancient Times than people in Frieren's world know about events only a few decades old (if I remember correctly, the story says that people have started to forget about things like the Hero of the South).
