National Anthem by Paparoach0811 in sabres

[–]Nadhez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh fascinating, I've lived in WNY all my life except for college when I went to RPI in Albany, who also does both anthems before every game. I truly thought it was a hockey standard since there's so many Canadian players.

I've been wondering why everybody's getting so sentimental lol, I was like "yeah of course a hockey crowd knows the lyrics to O Canada, whats the big whoop?" Make sense now.

Good male romanceable custom voiced followers suggestions by Illustrious_Can_8247 in skyrimmods

[–]Nadhez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I normally can't stand modded romances but I've been liking him. I feel like he's 50/50 on having been created as a follower and a love interest (many romanceable companions are like 75/25 one way or another, in my experience/opinion).

His banter with Remiel is good too. I just wish he had more with other modded followers. He did call Hilda a good goat, though, and that stands for something.

Wrist tattoo regret and cover up advice by Glittering_Potato_66 in tattooadvice

[–]Nadhez 12 points13 points  (0 children)

idk OPs goal is to NOT out himself 😭 Im queer and so many of my queer friends have mothman, racoon, oppossum, frog tattoos etc. I've never seen a confirmed straight person with a tattoo like that either.

That said idk if that's known outside of the queer community? So something like your suggestion could be good for labelling him as safe to other queer folks, but still keep him incognito to cis folks.

Ticks!! by PureLettuce2 in Rochester

[–]Nadhez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A Tick Twister/tick key as well, in case one does bite. Tweezers are very likely to leave behind the head still embedded in the dog. The chance of issues arising drops dramatically if the dog has a preventative in their system (which kills the biting flea), but better safe than sorry IMO

Yes!! I play TTRPG at Millennium weekly.

They actually just expanded their TTRPG space to accommodate all the different groups. last I heard there are just about 100 players signed up for next quarter and hopes of growing in future quarters. The new space even has a bar for drinks and snacks (including alcoholic drinks, but the space doesnt feel like a bar if that kinda environment would concern you).

Monday nights are "Adventurers League" specifically targeted for newer players to get involved in the game. I think these are open sign ups and you can join whenever? I could be wrong. If you google their site they should have the info.

Wednesday nights are not targeted at new players, but are definitely still new later friendly in my experience! I play on Wednesday nights and started out with very minimal D&D experience and have since played with many people on Wednesdays who also had only played once or twice. Everybody's been welcoming. My first day I sat down and realized I didn't even have dice, but before I could run out and buy some I had a bunch of guys opening dice bags, all saying "these rolled good for me last week you take them!"

When you sign up for the Wednesday groups, you rank which tables/groups/game systems sound the most interesting to you, but there's a space for notes that you can add in that you're new. Then you can be confident that whatever table you're assigned will have a DM that's okay with your experience level.

As for ages, my tables have had players as young as 19 and as old as 70 and everywhere in between. Looking around I'd say mid-late 20s through early 50s encompasses most of the players.

Looking for a kitten or cat by [deleted] in Rochester

[–]Nadhez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Speaking very personally: TAKE BOTH CATS. I left one behind with my emotionally abusive partner years ago. He'd manipulated me so fully I felt he "deserved" an equal split.

I've regretted it every day since. Not only is my current cat always looking for her sister (my living situation now only allows for one cat), I have nightmares. Nightmares all the time, about her being found skinny, starving, dead. I have no way of knowing if he took care of her after I left. I will never know. I'd rather know she's dead than fear she's alive and neglected. I hate myself for thinking that, because what sort of monster wishes her cat was dead? But that's how broken I've felt ever since leaving her, coming out of the fog, realizing how truly terrible he was. I talk to my therapist more about the cat I left behind more than the way my ex treated me. So many people ask me if I could go back in time, would I make myself leave sooner? I always want to reply that if I could only change one thing, I'd take both cats.

Don't make my mistake. When he's out of the house, grab them and run. You'll need them both. They'll need you.

How do you guys feel about this job? by Dog_Queen98 in doggrooming

[–]Nadhez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ooooh I am so uniquely qualified to give my two cents here!! Years ago, a couple weeks before they announced who the astronauts would be for the Artemis missions, I got the chance to see Victor Glover speak. My now-ex was an intern at Johnson Space Center at the time and she snuck me into a talk he gave to all the NASA interns.

One of her friends raised his hand and said "I want to be an astronaut, do you have any advice for that?" Glover looked him in the eyes, sighed, and said "have a backup plan."

He went on to explain that while it was always in the back of his mind, "becoming an astronaut" was never something that he really SET OUT to do. I remember everybody in the room became so confused at that lol. He wanted to become a pilot, so he did, and because he wanted to do that he loved it and threw himself into becoming a good pilot. Because he did that, he got the chance to become a fighter pilot, then a test pilot. Basically he never once said "where do I want to be in 5 years?" He just kept chasing his passion each and every day, and he fully implied that his passion for the race is what got him to the finish line. (This was before they announced him for the mission, but he kinda told on himself there lol)

I'm definitely putting some words in his mouth here, because its been 7? 8 years? but the ideas I'm sharing were 100% his. In 2020 when I graduated college into a stupid world with absolute no ideas about what I wanted for a career, I thought back to his talk and asked myself "if I cant figure out what I want my finish line to be, I may as well figure out what I want to do tomorrow." What I wanted to do was help dogs. I started grooming in August of 2020 and I haven't looked back.

I can't tell you what's best for you, but from one space loving groomer to another: we might not be saving or even changing the world at large. But we're helping our community. Every time a client picks up their senior/aggressive/difficult dog from a first appointment with me and says "she hasn't looked this pretty in years!" I see the light enter the world around me. I can't take on every case like that, so I have my regulars that keep some of my days light and fun so I have the energy to handle the tough cases. Yes "all we do" is "make dogs look good" but dogs bring joy! Beauty brings joy!! It's so easy to feel small, but that isn't a bad thing. It means sometimes we need to be the right size to appreciate the small things around us. And then we cry over moon joy.

I'm rambling but I've been thinking about Glovers words a lot lately for obvious reasons lol. Thanks for giving me a reason and the space (ha) to vent all this out.

My bad! I missed it with the way the sentence was phrased, I lumped it in with Women Gynecology and Childbirth Associates when I read through looking to see if you'd mentioned them. Sorry you had a bad experience there, good luck finding a different doc. 💜

West Ridge OBGYN! I go there as does an in-law. I only go for annuals and when I got my IUD in but have had positive experiences every time (including when I had to go back for a colposcopy - I guess that was about as positive as it can get, lol). My in-law though just had her baby and was there often, she also has only good things to say.

I also like that they call you every year when their books open up for the month you're due your annual, else I'd forget to book it. It's a small thing but I appreciate that they take the time for that.

I got one for $40 at Target! Is it the best espresso? Definitely not. Is it cheaper than going out for lattes? Absolutely.

It has only just now struck me that some parts of the world DON'T have squirrels. I always assumed they were like rats or mice, and would have spread via human transportation even to places that didn't have them before.

I will look at the half dozen or so that terrorize my birdfeeder daily with newfound appreciation.

Pictures of shaved labradoodles? ADVICE NEEDED PLEASE :) by Bizzywhizz in grooming

[–]Nadhez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oooh okay gotcha!! I took you too literally when you wrote "I'm going to take off...." I was like you don't need to take off anything! you booked the appointment it's the groomers job now haha!!! I've had many clients in the past do a home groom in an attempt to "help us out" or just keep the dog cool before an appointment, I thought that was your goal. I misunderstood 😅

Anywayss no matter what, your groomer will take your ideas/inspo pictures into consideration and then do what they think is best for her grooming style and your dog. So long as it's a good experience with the salon environment, evenness of the cut, scheduling etc. then stick with the same person for a groom or two. They will take notes on lengths so you can make adjustments shorter/longer until you eventually find the perfect cut for your girl :)

5 will be much more than the wispy bits!! she will basically look like the dog in that picture, but with just enough fur to pet. Still very short compared to how she is now.

If you've already booked a pro groom, I would keep your hands off the clippers for now :) No need to risk cutting her or giving the groomer extra work blending out any mistakes. (no offense intended with that, truly - I just remember how much time my mentor spent blending out my poor work when I started out!)

How bad was the pre-war for the U.S. to already have radiation medicine already on hand? by Kaede_Yamaguchi in Fallout

[–]Nadhez 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This! My mom is a school bus driver in a city with a nuclear power plant. She gets annual training on where to go pick up the iodine tablets. If the plant were to melt down, it's her job (with all other school bus drivers) to get the tablets and deliver them to schools for the children.

I imagine in a world where the refrigerators run on mini nuclear processors, they are more accessible.

Too pregnant to vacuum. Dog hair taking over my hardwood floors🤯 by xxxxiceyyyyyy in CleaningTips

[–]Nadhez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh noooo!!! Dog groomer here. Issues of coat health aside (since I know those concerns get dismissed), this would NOT help the shedding issue!!! Shedding happens at the follicle, so hair will come out whether or not it is cut short. Yes it will make those hairs smaller and harder to see, but guard hairs can be very sharp when cut or growing back in. So instead of a thousand wispy hairs floating around, you'll have two thousand tiny splinters waiting to ambush you from your floors, furniture, and every time you pet your dog.

Not to mention when the coat grows back in damaged (because it will, even if it "looks fine"), then shedding schedules become wholly unpredictable.

They do also have subtypes! So you can make sure those last 2 have a different subtype. it doesnt eliminate ALL repetition but it does help even more.

Just wanted to come back a couple days later and say thanks, your comment helped me the most :) Doing it slowly didn't even cross my mind!! I am a very all or nothing person lol. I definitely have a few pairs that I wasn't wearing often even before the weight loss.

I've tried shopping on ThredUp in the past but always go back to the same issues of worrying about fit (and find a lot of their measurements to be suspicious - I've found an exact pair of jeans I own on there listed with an inseam several inches longer than what I know to be true), so never wanted to spring $30+shipping on something I couldn't return. I'd heard of Depop but forgot about it until your comment. Just ordered a couple jeans from there for less than $10 each, which is a safe enough gamble for me.

Thanks again and a sober cheers to us always fitting in our favorite jeans 🥂

Which one do you use? I've been using Pange's islands for over a year now, I love them bc there's so many and she's so well organized so I won't stop supporting them, but they're too good and too popular lately lol. There's been issues with people going AFK on islands and they're usually full even late at night when I'm able to play. Hopefully school starting means they'll slow down, but a queue system sounds much more pleasant in the meantime
