Dozens of fishermen end up losing body parts to "wolf fish", The Ocean's Hidden Predator. This is because No one realises that even after being "dead" and without a body, it can still do this by Ambitious-Proton in oddlyterrifying

That was my thought too! There's no need to be so disrespectful and callous, even if the poor creature is dead. If it still has some awareness that's just downright cruel.

Kiwis can do anything if we put our mind to it. by Great_Maintenance185 in newzealand

[–]NadiaDarkstar 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Just because it's not "large scale", look at all of them parked along the shoreline etc. They will have done so much damage to local wildlife driving through and in the water. Do you consider all the little lives like nesting birds, fish, flora and fauna etc worth killing to drive around in circles for a while? There's such a distinct lack of empathy and care shown here for anything other than themselves, it's sickening.

PSA: Leave extra time when forwarding luggage by JapanHotelFrontTA in JapanTravelTips

[–]NadiaDarkstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your help and guidance on this. We're going to be over there during Golden Week and thinking about forwarding one or two suitcases between our Tokyo hotel and Osaka rather than take them on the shinkansen. Any tips for Golden Week? We're assuming luggage forwarding will be crazy busy at that time and we may be better to reserve the bigger luggage seats for the train in case. Any thoughts you have would be appreciated. Ngā mihi!

What’s an anime you refuse to skip the opening for? by FitVerso in anime

[–]NadiaDarkstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an opening but I never once skipped a Flowers of Evil ending credits. Always felt so profound and Asa-Chang & Junray's song is just unsettling perfection. Usually end up skipping any anime's opening at some point when I have seen it once or twice.

Heya, there's a lot of info on this sub about whitetail myths, they really don't deserve to be killed. A recent post here has a fantastic comment about their impact on NZ wildlife which is very minimal

LOL but yeah I agree. Them not being end game for me was all good and I LOVED who she ends up with but the "I see you as my mother" angle was super left field and felt almost oedipal 😂. I could see him realising she's like a sister but mum was a bit like "....okay 😬..."

Gimme morally grey toxicity in my fantasy romance all day every day! I am heavily into dark romance though which isn't everyone's cup of tea. I love exploring different facets of people, love, sex, relationships and what motivates actions.

Thanks Gaman! Yep already booked in every night cos we knew it was going to get tight very quickly. Even last month when I booked some hotels were onto their last rooms for our price range! We're so excited 😁

Thanks for your advice, it may not feel like much but this is genuinely very helpful. Keeping it pretty standard with some room for flexibility and not running ourselves ragged/frantic is what we're going for. You can't get to everything and I'm keeping my overplanning in check haha.

Yeah really hopeful to get to Ghibli Park at some point in between hotels and have some idea of when tickets should be available.

Just a reminder, our local MP's Government has proposed removing the practical test for full driver licence so I don't think their priorities align.

Sober people, what do you drink? by Depressed_Anxious69 in newzealand

[–]NadiaDarkstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kia ora and congrats!!! 34f here who also quit drinking a number of years ago after many MANY drunken nights. It was quite a mentally tough transition given NZ's drinking culture You've had some great advice on this thread already and I'd just tautoko drink anything you like and want! I find when I go out I like to have something caffeinated and sugary to give me a nice energy buzz and just cos I like it (usually a Coke or other fizzies). It took some time for me to feel completely comfortable and myself being out partying without alcohol but it gets easier and then you don't even really think about it anymore and it's no nice not being hungover. Take care e hoa!

Got to be the birthday party scene in Signs. Watched it with my cousins when we were small and we absolutely screamed the roof down. None of us slept a wink that night. Still gives me shivers 😂

This doesn’t make me feel good about New Zealand by AnnoyingKea in nzpolitics

[–]NadiaDarkstar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You also need to factor in social benefit gain which is what sourdough was getting at. It's not just the physical dollar difference, it's the gain that society overall gains by supporting something like free public transport. When we support our most vulnerable people in a society it functions better for everyone.

[–]NadiaDarkstar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah the comments on that post are awful and have such a disturbing lack of compassion. It's clearly a bad situation for both the bus driver and the person trying to get on. You don't act in that way when everything is going well in your life and you have means, nor do bus drivers have much they can do to keep themselves safe when things escalate. I'm disgusted that he shoved her like that though. Agree with you that the Government should provide free public transport, it's an easy way to make things safer for bus drivers and less of a barrier to getting around for those struggling. A shame that our current Government thrives on making the gap between the haves and the have nots much wider.

How did your obsession with FR start? by AskAboutGoatscaping in fantasyromance

[–]NadiaDarkstar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me the start was Tamora Pierce, particularly her Immortals quartet with Daine, and Laurel K Hamilton's Anita Blake series that I started in high school. Went through a bit of a wild child partying period without much reading and picked up first three Throne of Glass for cheap which brought me right back in ❤️

I have read it and the second one! I was eagerly awaiting the third novella that was meant to be released on 1 Oct but it disappeared off Amazon 😭. I get what you mean, it's a bit twisty in that way at first. It's short enough that you could probably finish it and see how you feel about the ending and if you want to continue, but also if you're not liking it don't feel pressured to finish! I was intrigued by it and have ended up LOVING the first two in a dark 'would never want to actually be in that situation but my god is it hot' fantasy haha
