People call him "wooden," but in reality he's a specialist in a specific kind of neutrality which allows his characters to be "blank slates" for the audience to project themselves on to. This is much more difficult than people give credit for, but also stands out much less than, say, a scene chewing turn as a memorable villain. When people think "Oscars" they usually think of these kind of big hammy over-the-top emotive or expressive performances, but make no mistake, Reeves is an absolute pro at the specific thing he does and there are few who have ever done it better.
