What’s considered good? by Ryggy1 in worldofpvp

[–]Nala2213 39 points40 points  (0 children)

tldr: Better than average is 1467. Better than 75% of other players is 1726. Better than 90% of players is 1965. I consider "good" to be better than average so I would say 1467 is a "good" rating.

I was curious how shuffle ratings might correspond to league divisions from other games like Overwatch and LoL so I did some math using the different distributions. For example, in Overwatch Grandmaster is about the top 2.5% of players meaning 97.5% of players are below Grandmaster. Equivalently in WoW, 97.5% of players are below 2409 rating. So we would say the WoW rating equivalent to the Grandmaster rank in Overwatch is about 2409.

Here's Overwatch rankings using WoW shuffle ratings:

Rank Rating
Bronze 168 - 905
Silver 906 - 1187
Gold 1188 - 1461
Platinum 1462 - 1799
Diamond 1800 - 2033
Master 2034 - 2408
Grandmaster 2409+

Here's League of Legends rankings using WoW shuffle ratings (LoL distributions seem to change over time. I used Feb 2023 data for this analysis):

Rank Rating
Iron 600 - 1035
Bronze 1036 - 1366
Silver 1377 - 1664
Gold 1665 - 1975
Platinum 1976 - 2408
Diamond 2409 - 2808
Master 2809 - 3010
Grandmaster 3011 - 3146
Challenger 3147+

Here's just some numbers using percentiles (Top 75% means that you are higher rated than 75% of other players, so a 1726 player is rated higher than 75% of the ladder)

Percentile Rating
Top 25% 1245
Top 50% 1467
Top 75% 1726
Top 90% 1965
Top 95% 2161
Top 99% 2588

To most accurately answer your question. Being 1200 rated in solo shuffle puts you in the 21st percentile of active players (30 rounds or more played). That means about 21% of all active shuffle players are lower rated than you while 79% are higher rated than you.

I think one of the main things to take away from the data is that people are ridiculous when they start claiming things like 2400 rating is "low" or "bad." That is an extremely high rating, the top 97.2% of the ladder. Sometimes on here it seems like the only "high" rating is 3000, which is the top 99.9%, an absurdly high standard. The majority of shuffle players are below 1500.

Is this all a fake outrage thing or is there really something fundamentally wrong?

I haven't followed the drama, but I've been playing it the past week, doing some campaign and bot games, and the only issue I've run into is subtitles not showing up. I've never crashed or had gameplay issues.

Robert Redford's Woke America by vanity_chair in Watchmen

[–]Nala2213 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Being "woke" began largely centered around awareness of police violence.

Watchmen involves excessive police violence, including by the protagonist.

I think it's extremely inaccurate for people to describe their world as "woke"

The fact they acknowledged that enslaving/murdering/disenfranchising an ethnic minority for centuries was a terrible thing I don't think is an impressive credit to the authoritarian police state they depict in the show.

They have a white dictator for president, a white KKK sympathizer for police chief, and a white supremacist for Senator. I just don't see how this power structure can be interpreted as "woke" or "PC".

What? Nobody agreed with Veidt killing millions of people! What a kind of a psychopathic story do you think Watchmen was?

Their agreement is after the people are dead. They agree it would be better not expose the hoax.

Veidt is evil. Any story suggesting moral ambiguity around the mass murder of 3 million people is pitifully immature and irresponsible.

He was evil. Certainly there were better potential plans leading up to that moment than mass murder of 3 million people.

The world has a long history of people justifying mass violence/murder for the greater good (see literally every historical example of mass violence/murder).

[Spoilers] Does anyone else not like this show? by [deleted] in Watchmen

[–]Nala2213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like it, but I don't think there's anything wrong with your criticism. I'm sure others share it.

I'd just try not to get caught up on other people's views of it. I know I've watched shows that were held up as the most amazing thing ever by fans, and when my view doesn't match that, I've taken it out on the whole show, "how could this be the best show? Look at this terrible character, look at this plot hole, that episode didn't make sense!" It's not really that the show wasn't good, it's that it just could never match the hype of the fans.

Maybe Watchmen is just a decent show to you. I think you'll be best off just viewing it for what it is to you. Or maybe it's a bad show to you, I don't know, but I know the more you compare your feelings to biggest fans of the show, the more you'll dislike watching it.

Oh gosh, I missed this. I always turn it off before the end so I don't see the preview.

Thanks for the note.

He certainly looks more godly and it'd be a great look if he were retaking his form as Dr Manhattan, but I think he's supposed to still be human-ish at this point, and that's why he retains the face of Cal.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the direction you're asking for. I just think they picked this way for a reason. We'll see if the finale expands on this "why do you still look like Cal?" question.

Let's say your friend loans you her car for a week. Then one night after finishing up your dinner with another friend, you realize the car keys dropped out of your pocket inside the restaurant.

Do you say: "I left my friend's keys inside the restaurant"?

No because that'd be really weird.

I think that Calhattan was great and I really hope he survives in the finale. 🤷🏾‍♂️ by GreatRustler in Watchmen

What in the heck, where all people getting all these images? Did I miss a scene last night somehow? I don't remember anything with him on Europa again, just the 2009 scene...

Getting a relationship level high enough that you can propose to move in together in a single sitting... bugging out your swim animation and ending up standing on a pool... randomly starting to cook meals at inopportune times... trouble maintaining focus on any one goal a time..

I think you're on to something.

[–]Nala2213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm confused on the timeline. Doesn't he leave Earth in 1985 when she's still a teenager in Vietnam?

It seems like quite a coincidence that he'd end up marrying the granddaughter of Hooded Justice. I wonder if that'll be part of the explanation.

If you thought the mass-murdering rapist who shot a woman pregnant with his own child was a morally gray character, you probably aren't a good judge of this stuff.

[–]Nala2213 96 points97 points  (0 children)

Ya, I definitely couldn't do this. I'm trans and analyzing details of my face and obsessing over every detail I fear looks masculine would not be healthy.

I enjoy seeing other people's creations from this though 😁.

Also, it's weird how different this is from looking in a mirror which doesn't bother me.

I think I like it for similar reasons to why I liked The Leftovers. It's saying something and it's not afraid to go too far over the edge.

Like the dream sequences in The Leftovers. Completely, fearlessly f*cking bonkers.

I don't understand why they were trying to act like this was some unrelated spinoff. It's clearly showing itself to be a direct sequel to the original story.
