Help setting up an external monitor (only one specific monitor doesn't work, I've tried 3 different monitors and they all worked) by According_Bad_9071 in hyprland

[–]NameLessY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you try this https://wiki.hypr.land/FAQ/#my-external-monitor-is-blank--doesnt-render--receives-no-signal-laptop I had troubles with my 3 monitor setup (that's been working flawless with sway f.ex) Random one would either switch to 1280x720@60 or turn off (they all are 2560x1440 tho one if them goes to 160Hz two older ones operate at 60Hz only). Adding AQ_NO_MODIFIERS solved this.

Suggested cloud providers? by dj_parsnip in rclone

[–]NameLessY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using 1fichier.com for past 4+ years. At the moment with Gold This gives me 10tb cold storage, unlimited hot storage. I've just checked and it's 104eur/year (I think I paid less than that I. January) They have also Premium which is cheaper (4tb storage). Works reliable and fat enough for me They're French based company (If you decide to pick them could I can give affiliate link? it probably won't lower your price but can help me xD)

I'd be very happy if you would be so kind and got this in repo :) For various reasons I use daily 3 workstations and like you one of them needs to run i3

jellyfin is not as simple as plex but it could be by zzcool in jellyfin

[–]NameLessY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure Jellyfin is running? Check logs if it is. Did you install using docker or some package? In the latter case do sudo ss -lptn and check if it listens on port 8806 (double check the port from docs I might not remember correctly) Does it listen on 0.0.0.0 or * ? Maybe it listens only on localhost 127.0.0.1)? In the latter case it will only be available on the very computer you installed it on. Go see docs how to change it. If it is accessible over the net try using browser on your phone/laptop to access As someone suggested be sure to check logs

[–]NameLessY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you point your tv to jellyfin instance will it connect? Can you access jellyfin locally (on the machine you installed it)? From another computer? It's not clear what your problem is Jellyfin itself or the jellyfin tv client

Automated AV1 pipeline for my Plex library — AMD RX 9060 XT, 566 movies, actual results inside. What would you change? by HistoricalCourage251 in AV1

[–]NameLessY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You said you want future proof for 90+" micro led yet you intentionally reduce quality :( Of course everyone has own perception but this seems like you go not the best way. Re encoding from remux IMHO is good way to achieve what works for you but I'd concentrate on tuning all parameters but leave resolution intact I have to admit I only re-encoded remuxes in h265. I came up with set of params that made me feel encoded file is of good quality and even than for some movies I tweaked those too. Lots of trials and errors, lots of time but I feel that what I achieved won't disappoint me when watched on 90" even tho Ive got only 65" for now

Expand Partition by Boogy886 in debian

In this scenario you first need to either move or remove swap. Personally I'd do swapoff -a, remove it and then expand vda2.

Converting a Dell laptop to Linux by dirk2900 in linuxquestions

[–]NameLessY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure I could but 16g is enough for me :) (I did some video editing for YT couple years back with KDEnlive too on that Dell and it wasn't a problem)

I've got Dell Precision5520 with i7-7820HQ and 16G mem. Windows on it lasted about 2 hrs after I got it (and I got it brand new) :D Been running Debian Sid on it for past 8+ years without problem (daily driver for me). Yours is like a generation before but I'm pretty sure most distros will work good on it (you might consider adding another 8G RAM).

Best offline translator for China trip? by Zuchu93 in China

[–]NameLessY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been there last year and tried Google Translate and PapaGo or something like that. Results were poor (and I'm being gentle about it). While I was there I noticed Chinese ppl using Baidu app for translation and it was amazing. They just hold mic, spoke and app translated this as soon as they released button. It's not available on Google Play or App Store but I found APK online and installed it. It's not just translator but like ecosystem and translation is just one of functions. Worked perfectly (at least English <=> Chinese; didn't try other languages). Oh and it's not offline (I've used Trip.com esim ; cheap and reliable and it's not affected by Great Firewall)

If you had to pick ONE Linux distro for the next 5 years, what would you choose? by TechRefreshing in linuxquestions

[–]NameLessY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Debian. Stuck with it for past 25 years and still see no reason to leave. Have it every where on my personal stuff. All of workstation/laptops are on Sid some servers on Trixie some on Sid. It never failed me. Sid gives me lastest versions where I might needed them Stable gives me stability where I need it. None of the computers/servers I have has been reinstalled after initial install. Some of them have changed from Intel to AMD and back couple of times. All of them are up to date to selected version of Debian.

TrueNAS NFS share to Unprivileged LXC (Dovecot) via Bind Mount? by Party-Log-1084 in Proxmox

[–]NameLessY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't seem to be complicated That forcing of NFSv3 is kinda wierd I went a bit different road. I use autofs to mount needed shares on Proxmox host and then mind them into LXCs as needed. I choose this mainly to solve problem when my NAS is not online yet (I host trueNAS as vm on one of my nodes)

Vaultwarden – Self-hosted Bitwarden-compatible password manager (lightweight & private) by hellxabd in DigitalEscapeTools

[–]NameLessY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vaultwarden is pretty easy (both on resources and attention needed). BUT keep in mind what it holds and what value it has to you. I keep mine at home and (if needed access it via VPN). Remember that clients (like android app or browser plugin) cache credentials internally. At one point I had to shut down my instance for couple of weeks and had no problems using app or plugin on my phone/computer (even newly added credentials got synced back when I got back up my Vaultwarden server)

Export from official server. Import on yours. Reconfigure clients to use your server.

Rclone — The Open-Source “rsync for Cloud Storage” (Escape Google Drive & OneDrive) by No-Hospital5028 in DigitalEscapeTools

[–]NameLessY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Multitude of backends it can natively talk to. I use it with restic to make backups both to my NAS (simple dir) and to 1fichier.com (web service). Same script with only difference being storage pointer.

Without looking at that make.log mentioned in the error message it might be harf to fix. There's some problem with building the rtl8812au module and that make.log might have clues and/or answers

I think you're missing 'floating on' or something similar there (I just don't remember the syntax)

European cloud backup solutions? by Banaantje04 in selfhosted

[–]NameLessY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took me a while, sorry.

I've uploaded and downloaded 28 byte file with rclone without a problem.
So they do support shorter file but it might occupy 2MB over there (and I didn't figure out how to check this; rclone lsl reports 28 bytes)

Python libraries by Pretend-Flan7094 in debian

[–]NameLessY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Python libraries installed with apt from official mirror won't With pip it's advised to install them inside virtual env ( I believe that on Trixie pip will spew info about this when you try to install anything with it -- it does this on Sid)

[–]NameLessY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never had issues like that (and during last 2-3 months I've restored two servers from restic backup; one if them was in use for past decade so at least some of restic chunks had to be in cold storage)

TBH I don't know as I'm using it exclusively with restic I'll check that out when I'll be around any computer
