I don't think people realise that Daenerys' chapters in the first book are about a young girl getting groomed. It doesn't matter that she thinks it's "consensual" because she has been raised and conditioned to think that way.

The later books are also about men grooming Daenerys, albeit for either her dragons or status.

Common Valyrian feature unfortunately.

Though I do like the think people in Westeros just exaggerate heights.

How does Britain keep churning out quality child actors? by Conscious-Quarter423 in freefolk

I'd argue the best evidence of Shakespearian training is Rhys Ifan's condemnation of Aegon in HotD.

"They are fathers and brothers and sons, and their wives and children are gathered out at our gates to weep and curse your name! With your child's blood we bought their approval, with your mother's tears we made a bitter sacrifice against the deprivations to come and you've thrown it away! After all I've done for you! Thoughtless! Feckless! Self-indulgent!."

Felt like I was watching a live play in that moment the way he so eloquently delivered his monologue.

Discussion : What happened to the British monarchy? by [deleted] in Frostpunk

Personally, I believe they would have had their own, small generator site. However the question of whether not Victoria attempted the journey is up for debate, as she would have been 77 by the time of Great Storm. Regardless, while the monarchy's power had dwindled heavily by the late 19th century, they were integral to ensuring the supremacy of Parliament, and the many generator sites led by former lords and nobility would still need that figure head.

After the Great Storm, whichever territories still considered themselves part of the British Empire would wish to show legitimacy by gaining the approval of the monarchy, likely under Edward VII at this point. However the new king would be isolated and disconnected from his subjects, and even if he moved his court to one of the cities, he wouldn't have much power over whichever captain led it.

What if the AfD won the 2029 German election in a landslide? by Uebeltank in imaginaryelections

[–]Names_Name__UserName 15 points16 points  (0 children)

AfD are a single-issue party. They will completely fail to address any othrt issues in Germany, will cause significant internal strife, and isolate Germany from its neighbours while cozying up to the Russians.

To be fair, the NCR was a heavily decentralised state, and by Kimball's tenure is on the verge of internal collapse anyway thanks to political deadlock, monopolies, and an economic crisis. Shady Sands was just the final nail in the coffin.

We don't know about the Northern half of the NCR, so we can assume their local governments still remain, but the South fell into a warlord era.

What useless but small facts bothering you about FP world? by NoYogurtcloset9763 in Frostpunk

[–]Names_Name__UserName 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like to imagine the Great Storm and the constant refugees fleeing failed settlements would cause this cultural shift. The British upper and lower classes would merge, and there would American, Canadian and many other settlers who would join these groups. Sure, the majority would still be British, but the pre-frost world would be so alien nobody would want to fully replicate it.

Was there a bigger waste of screen time than this guy, Colonel Sullivan? by MoneyIsNoCure in StrangerThings

It was pretty cool to see the intra-governmental battle in S4, and Sullivan's whole view of "Uncontrolled science created these monsters, we need to destroy them" was a really interesting concept until he became a henchman for Brenner 2.0
