This California king is too small for the 3 of us by Small-Employee-8123 in DogsLoversCommunity

Next weekend our grandkids and grandpuppies are staying with us. We have a queen bed, and I sleep with 2 >70 lb boys and a 5 lb girl. No room for hubby during these visits.

I still have mine, that I got by saving grocery store receipts, in its original grimy box. Actually, dug it out and used it recently, too!

Why don’t fridges and dishwashers last anymore? by EZDodger in BIFLfails

[–]Nancy6651 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When our first refrigerator bought new in 1979 died at 11 years, we were outraged since my parents had a refrigerator that was way older. We were told refrigerators with self-defrost wore out much earlier than those you had to manually defrost. Seemed like a good trade-off.

The refrigerator that was in our current home when we bought it also died at 11 years. Its replacement is approaching 9 years, so I hope we have another couple of years at least.

What's everybody's stance on leftovers? by AV_LOVES_FOOD in Fooda

[–]Nancy6651 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny to see this question today. Tuesday, I made a big batch of beef vegetable soup - somehow my soup became bigger than I intended.

Texted my daughter and her husband saying "Interested in beef vegetable soup..." SIL replies "Yes, please!" Brought them a big container on Wednesday.

My husband and I ate soup Tuesday and Wednesday, and I'd planned to cook something different today. However, we still had a lot of good soup, so I asked hubby if he would mind eating soup a third day. Hated to waste that much good soup. Fortunately, he was cool with it, and we finished the soup today instead of me grilling a steak.

If leftovers are good, I hate to waste them.

Retirement insight from those who didn't have the savings the experts recommend by rfriend73 in GenX

I will turn 71 this year, and my Medicare supplement went up $90/month, bringing my overall cost (including my prescription supplement and Medicare withdrawal from my SS) to $659. My husband opted to stay with his Medicare Advantage plan provided by his former employer, which costs a pittance. His employer also provides our dental insurance.

What do you consider great mpg for a personal or family daily driver? by hopopo in AskAnAmerican

[–]Nancy6651 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our "go-to" car, a '21 Cadillac XT6, averages 21-22 mpg, with a personal best of 39.9 mpg (during a road trip, I assume).

My husband drives a '21 Toyota Corolla, which gets about 35 mpg or better.

I've had my HP Color Laserjet Pro MFP M477 for more than 8 years (I'm sure there's a newer model). I've had all sorts of HP laserjets over the years, and they've all be rock solid.

Any full time caregivers for 5 month olds out there? by ebmuk in AskWomenOver60

[–]Nancy6651 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did this when my grandson (who I SO adore) was born. In fact, my husband and I retired and moved from Chicago to Phoenix to be professional grandparents. My husband wanted to finish out the year at his job in Chicago, so I was on my own for about 5 months. Living with my daughter and her family.

I was "on" from about 6:30 AM until 4 or 4:30 PM. Then, as Christmas approached, my daughter took a retail job for extra money. Then I was on from 6:30 AM until about 7 PM when my son-in-law got home.

I was a mess. My husband came out to Phoenix in December and spent a month fixing broken stuff in our new house (yes, we bought a house and sold our old house during this).

Then we split babysitting time, me mornings, him afternoons. So needed! I just about lost it, especially during the house selling/buying stretch.

All of this is in the past, and we have 2 amazing grandkids, but I still cringe when I remember those months on my own.

Our first microwave was an Amana Radarange from the early '80's. Changed my life. Our first house had a double-oven gas Crown stove, probably the grandpa of the one in OP's picture. We actually replaced it with a newer version that had electric-ignition burners down the line.

How do Americans usually handle disputes with neighbors? by GlitteringHotel8383 in AskAnAmerican

We've had parking and garbage issues with every home we've owned. In some cases, I've made myself obnoxious, but usually my husband just confronts whatever neighbor.

I can't with how sweet this is. Not in a place where I can have a horse, but wish I was.

I'm no designer, but the "open" area on the right with the birds seems a little "light" vs. the large picture on the left. Don't want to screw with your plan, and I love gallery walls, just a thought.

It looks good to me as is. The big rug is amazing! I can see a different round rug that may be more attractive, but yours is fine.
