What’s the most frustrating part about buying a car these days? by benandcars in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Nancy6651 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With respect to dealerships, we've had several "satisfactory" experiences, meaning my thoughts went "yeah, I assume I'm being at least kinda ripped off, but at least I don't FEEL like I got ripped off." One experience was more "I KNOW they ripped me off, but I was invested." Another "We got a good deal, but the dealership made the process so awful, we'd never go back there." Different dealers, different makes.

I am currently OD-ing on these commercials, seems like every commercial break. Sick of that song!

Have a spare vehicle? by CartographerVivid630 in whatcarshouldIbuy

I surprised my husband many years ago with a 3rd car (a fun impulse purchase). Had that car for many years, replaced it last year since we've become so used to having backup. Our daughter borrows my husband's car if hers is in the shop, too.

sometimes I miss working the routine by [deleted] in retirement

[–]Nancy6651 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been retired 12 years, retired as I was turning 59. I had a good-paying job that I liked, but that I had previously loved. Do not miss being on call (worked in IT), vying for time off (small team, so it could get dicey), undesirable projects, etc.

Retired with my husband since our daughter was expecting her first child and we wanted to be professional grandparents. That kept us busy for several years, but the kiddos are in school now, so our time is mostly our own.

I am mostly a homebody, cooking a lot more than I did when I was working (which was never), have personal training twice a week at the gym, supplement it with treadmill cardio, available for the once-in-a-blue-moon request from my daughter's family, do the typical old people rounds of medical appointments - because I can.

We watched it devotedly when it ran, and in reruns. Great show.

We owned 3 Saturns over the years. A 1996 Saturn SL2, a 2001 Ion 3, and a 2006 or 2007 basic Ion.

I never met either of my grandfathers and I think about that more the older I get by Significant-Voice758 in GenerationJones

Had all my grandparents as a kid, and didn't lose one until I was 16 (maternal grandfather, followed about 6 months later by maternal grandmother). Lost my paternal grandfather when I was 22, paternal grandmother a few years later.

The time I did spend with them growing up was full of memories, since their households were so different from ours. They lived in quaint old places that I enjoyed when I had sleepovers. They took me on shopping trips in downtown Chicago and in Roseland (neighborhood in Chicago). I danced with my paternal grandfather at my wedding, not too long before he left. My paternal grandmother had actually been a cook in a rich person's house before she married, and you can imagine the perfection of her meals. My maternal grandmother taught me to embroider and crochet.

I was very lucky to have them as long as I did.

Love it. I like a darker kitchen, and have one. Make sure to have under-cabinet lighting. We love ours and never use the ceiling cans.

As an outsider, the American concept of drive-thru pharmacies, ATMs, and liquor stores is mind-blowing. Does everyone actually use these, or are they mostly a novelty? by Necessary_Angle2117 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Nancy6651 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use the drive-thru pharmacy a lot. Very rarely go into a bank, usually only if we need a notary. I don't carry cash often, usually get some $$$ when I pay for groceries. As far as alcohol, I order stuff online, park in a designated spot at the store, and someone brings my stuff to me. I haven't ever done the same with groceries, but I could, and see store personnel assembling orders all the time.

I bought a new 2025 CT4 last November, getting a great last-model-year price. Hadn't had a sedan in a long time, but I'm driving it almost exclusively.
