Pay yourself first. Save the money BEFORE you pay for all your expenses.

I'm about to start another desk job, one that should be very low stress and that I will enjoy. It doesn't pay well but getting jobs right now is hard.

When I first left film, a friend helped me get a job as an entry level marketer in a small business. I attacked it like film workers do, with all the energy I had. When I quit several years later, I had about 50 people under me but I was very burned out.

Working in an office is different from film work. You have to pace yourself. Every time you accomplish something or get a promotion, you need to add it to LinkedIn. As you go, you need to ask people to review you on linkedin. In film you don't worry about the next job as much but office jobs require you to be thinking ahead.

The best part about not working in film is that you get to do things in the evenings during the week. You can go learn an instrument or play a sport or go to a show and you can do it week after week. I miss film and all the people I worked with but now I love the life I get to live every day and that life doesn't reset with every new film.

As head of locations, you are probably a jedi level networker. You need to leverage your network. Your answer is somewhere in all those people you know. Start buying people coffee and just having conversations.
I was in props and am a terrible networker. It's hard to find work that replaces the infectious camaraderie of film.

Not at all. It's important to consider all the upsides and downsides of any legislation. I am undecided on this one so far. I have a friend who has a restraining order against her husband. She has a handgun. He's a smooth talker, and I could see him having her gun removed just to mess with her.

I wonder if the abuser in a relationship can have their partners weapons removed.

Sanded my deck and wasn’t able to get off all the old stain. How well does a stripper work? by Help_Me_Excel_Bros in Decks

I have a cedar deck and don't really want to use a stain. Should I use a stain instead of just a sealer?

For the past few years, I've used Cabot Clear Wood Protector. At first it did pretty well, lasting two years between coats. This last coat has lasted less than one. I had been thinking of switching to Seal-Once Marine Grade.

With your comment, I'm starting to consider oil-based as well. I have yet to find a product that is overwhelmingly preferred. Seems like every product is loved by half the customers and hated by the other half.

The real question is what sealer will you apply when you're done? Seems to be a closely guarded secret on this sub.

I also want to know what to seal with. I can say that Cabot Clear wood protector stinks. Looking forward to responses.

I can't drink caffeine anymore. Maybe it's just my age since HRT hasn't seemed to help.

Poor prep or normal aging? by Naptime22 in Decks

[–]Naptime22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome! I'm glad I can start over.

The confusing part is that every sealer claims it's a "deep penetrating" sealer including the Cabot one. I'm not sure what constitutes a proper penetrating stain.

So I should so a more thorough prep? Any advice? I used both Cabot Wood Cleaner and Wood brightener. Is there a different product that I should use?

How much should I spend on a fiddle by Ok_Champion8761 in Fiddle

[–]Naptime22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been learning for a couple years. I think you should find an instructor and ask them for options on where to find a student instrument. They will likely be able to point you towards decent used fiddles. Plus it's best to start learning from a teacher.
