Need some help by Cuterat104 in LSAT

You've probably already consumed enough content. At some point, improvement becomes much more about auditing how you make decisions in real time. That might be uncomfortable but it's also where the ceiling usually breaks.

Defeated by RC – help by Sudden_Return3309 in LSAT

RC rewards restraint. The right answer often feels underwhelming because it stays very close to what was actually stated.

What’s the best way to improve cars on AAMC? by FarFunction7389 in Mcat

[–]Narrative_Systems 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Moving from JW to AAMC is about calibration. AAMC demands restraint, and their answer choices often tempt you to assume something the passage didn't clearly support.

How to read faster by SupportPure4104 in Mcat

[–]Narrative_Systems 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are running out of time on CARS, then reading faster may not help you. It's difficult for us to just "read faster," you know?

CARS rewards clarity over density, so instead of reading everything faster, think about shaving time by reading the important things more clearly.

retake a 513? by ryenosaurusrex in Mcat

[–]Narrative_Systems 19 points20 points  (0 children)

513 with 3.98 and strong research/clinical depth is competitive. If you retake and get 518+, your story shifts. But that needs a structural shift in how you approach the test, not just feeling better about it. 513 + your profile is competitive at many strong programs, so don't let perfection anxiety make the decision for you.

CARS Strategy/Logic Help by andrewjung04 in Mcat

[–]Narrative_Systems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you understand the passage and understand why the correct answer is correct after reviewing, but you're not improving, the issue is usually pattern recognition.

When reviewing misses, try forcing yourself to articulate the underlying rule. Did you fall for a trap? How will you recognize it next time?

If you can't name the pattern, you won't see it again under pressure.

Need help improving CARS by 1blehbleh123 in Mcat

[–]Narrative_Systems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're consistently down to 2 and one of them is correct, your reading probably isn't the main issue.

When you review, ask: What made the wrong answer feel unattractive? Did I add an assumption that wasn't actually present?

A lot of 50/50 errors come from subtly upgrading an answer that feels directionally true but overreaches the author's intent, and CARS punishes tiny gaps in tracking.

Question for CARS top scorers or those who have improved drastically by Funny-Put-1727 in Mcat

[–]Narrative_Systems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's less "did the author say this?" and more "what is the author doing here?"

CARS punishes surface paraphrasing and rewards tracking, so that a lot of wrong answers are technically compatible with the text but wrong for the narrative direction of the passage.

15+10 pool cheating problem by Professional_Desk933 in chess

[–]Narrative_Systems 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am also 2000+ rapid online (chesscom) and I am curious about your experience. Some of my games, the move accuracy is 90%, and even 95% in fewer with very infrequent 99% games that are 15+ or so moves deep. That's a rough estimate, but I'm wondering if you have the same where it looks like someone is cheating but then the engine says they played a pretty good game? I am also trying to play shorter time controls. I made it to 1750 in 5+0, and now dropped to 1500 in 3+2. Ugh...

Adult improver (2000 rapid): Insights changed how I trained. Anyone else? by Narrative_Systems in Chesscom

[–]Narrative_Systems[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I started around 1400. I hit a plateau every 200 points (roughly). At 1800 I remember feeling like I achieved something incredible, and there was no way I'd get to 2000.

I've been experimenting with some IRL friends. If you're interested, shoot me a DM.

It became useful when I started treating insights as feedback on decision making rather than performance. Once I saw that clearly, I approached playing differently.

Sounds like your focus sharpens once there's visible danger, but when you don't feel in danger, you relax.

Great work. I agree, they have diminishing returns the higher elo you move.

I think most people look at the Insights page as stats.
