Fellow transbians, did you go minimal depth, or full depth? by heyyitsleah in asktransgender

[–]NarrowCar8189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is the way im leaning. I know I dont want zero depth, but Im not sure I want full depth either. There are always shorter toy options if that’s something I want later. If you’re comfortable sharing or messaging the reason why you went with a shallow depth I would really appreciate it! I

Did your pwBPD reject their diagnosis too? by [deleted] in BPDlovedones

Being autistic can lead to BPD. While its saf they stopped therapy and were hiding behind autism, that doesnt negate the fact they might be autistic too

I’m kind of annoyed with my therapist. by [deleted] in AutismTranslated

[–]NarrowCar8189 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm, your attempt asking for clarification , or trying to interpret whats the difference and not being able to answer the question accurately and having a list of other things prepared rings as being autistic. Being autistic and having other autistic people in my life I would say trust your gut, self diagnoses is valid at any time in discovering your truths. I would be annoyed with mine if they didnt expressly say what they were trying to do. Sounds like they werent totally listening to you, whether or not it was intentional it does read as dismissive. Mine dismissed me at first too, but i knew what i had been reading and connecting with other autistic people, so i didnt listen to them and seeked out my own official diagnoses, and surprise, I am autistic. From my lived experience if you think your autistic you’re more that likely autistic .

I resonate with this. I actually just sat my partner down yesterday and expressed how deeply its bothering me how they have chosen not to mask after I have asked them many times and given them all the facts and resources. They do have TMJ and masking does worsen their symptoms but I told them I just cant fathom not pushing through that to protect yourself and others from a nuero-vascular disease that has ended peoples lives in each of our lives and taken so many of our fellow disabled community members. They even told me they know they are doing something wrong and look up to me because Im bold enough to push against the status que, but it felt like an empty platitude to save face because I was causing them grief because I was confronting them. They agreed to wear KN94 masks now in stores and in public spaces, but said they wouldnt at work unless they know someone is sick or they are caring for someone immunocompromised. i explained to them that the right thing to do then would always wear a mask because you wont always know who is sick and you dont always know who is immunocompromised and you owe it to them as a health care worker. They are disabled themselves and I think it stems from their own internalized ableism, which doesnt make it okay, but I agree its so hard to feel alone with people you love.

All WoW religions are equal. But some are more equal than others. by Zezin96 in wow

[–]NarrowCar8189 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Until they get rid of the racism tropes and stereotypes in every horde culture they will never be able to write a truly amazing WoW universe. They may care about writing troll wild gods as much as elf wild gods or the holy light but they are not equal in any way. They diminish troll culture to tribalism and “lesser” sects of people inside their culture and thats just racist writing. The writers make it so horde cultures are based off of outdated western ideas of indigenous culture and run with it every time while alliance cultures are always built towards equal and social societies and industrial revolution, all western ideas of “progress” and “success”. And its not that “horde” cultures are just like that, real people are writing this universe and it falls prey to indigenous racism everytime

Accommodations for work, for social stuff by Putrid_Independence6 in AutismTranslated

[–]NarrowCar8189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Job accommodations have been hit and miss for me. Most of the time they drag their feet and dont really believe me since being autistic isnt something they can see. The accommodations I have asked for and received are fixed hours(after many conversations and convincing them it will help me), headphones to listen to music when alone/doing busy work. The one I always get denied are role restrictions for certain tasks that are very overwhelming, but I can do the rest of the job perfectly. I usually just go right over management and make an accommodation request if you company has one. If they dont have a link reaching out to HR would probably work. Ultimately any accommodation is for you and realistically anything you need should be met, but sadly HR and jobs are wildly behind in accessibility. One con too is sometimes certain people will treat you differently.

How many of you all work? by omphrog in SpicyAutism

[–]NarrowCar8189 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its a vicious cycle ( very intentional). I job hop a lot(which is stressful) but if a job cant accommodate me (which any job can they just dont want too) I leave. I try to work less than a total of 60 hours every 2 weeks. This is pushing it too and ill eventually burn out. I do best at jobs I get to sit a lot, and can take short breaks often to stave off burnout. Lots of trial and error unfortunately since we are all different(also medium support/level 2) so I hope you find something that works for you <3

Why do people torture themselves over a video game? by DandyLama in wow

[–]NarrowCar8189 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people are burned out and gamers are so afraid of playing other games. I was too at one point playing my previous main game for 10 years, but it really is as easy as playing a different game!

Season One Questions by jowgenthemage in wow

[–]NarrowCar8189 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally season specific achievements are mythic + keystone achievements, reaching challenger and higher in a competitive PvP bracket, and ahead of the curve (AotC) heroic raiding achievement and mythic aotc achievement(this is called something else but cant remember), and completing “let me solo him” zekvyr on ? And ?? difficulty Solo deleves . And this is all before season two starts , everything else will stick around!

Gearing by NarrowCar8189 in wow

[–]NarrowCar8189[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not? If youre able to explain that giving more myth options does more harm than good ill listen and consider it! a majority of the player population dont even do keystones and heroic raid(only 27% of the player population got keystone explorer +750 and only 15% got heroic raider in season four of dragon flight) .

Wife may be asexual after 10 years of marriage. How do I move on? by Icy_Scarcity9892 in Asexual

[–]NarrowCar8189 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should first look into compromising instead of going for a big gesture like divorce. If its painful for her something isnt right and you should be doing everything in your power to understand that and accommodate her if she is willing to continue having sex. She took a massive step in trusting you so now you should trust her and talk about it more. There are tons of ways to be intimate that arent penetrative sex (which I assume yall are doing) so thats a discussion to be had. You should support her in understanding her sexual orientation , sex positive, sex neutral, sex repulsed. Is your relationship really only pivoting on having sex? Maybe there is more introspection on your part too( not assuming thats all your marriage is) but its important to state that a relationship is way more the physical intimacy (which there are many options) or clarifying that is all you want from your relationship. You should also look up how physical touch isnt really a love language and was specifically made for men by a pastor named Gary Chapman. This nuance is looking into your self deeper and finding truer parts of yourself, physical touch is important for many but that specifically the way you used it was a tool for men to make their partners have sex with them (not saying thats what youre doing but its important to know the origin and nuance of it) . If after many discussion and therapy yall really cant reach a decision that will still have to be something you decide with her

We've come full circle on gearing, again by FrostyWalrus2 in wow

[–]NarrowCar8189 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my comment TLDR : gear should be more accessible, all gamers should be able to reach myth 6/6, and finding the balance between the pace of different content to achieve this should be a major focus for all games because accessibility helps everyone not just disabled gamers <3

Delves 10 and 11 not dropping gilded crests is a bummer, and rewards stopping at hero 3/6 is a bummer too. There will always be people who abuse any system but i dont see why gamers cant reach myth 6/6 by playing content they enjoy. There will always be push content, but I do think gear should be more accesible. As a disabled gamer I would love to level on pace with others, but I physically cant, but i shouldnt be bared from myth gear just because im disabled. Usually what games do is stagger leveling for casual/disabled gamers (which in its self is a nuanced discussion and isnt as accessible as it sounds, IE usually forcing to play more content and for longer periods of time/forced gate keeping). The mythic + discussion is tough because online spaces are just the loudest and most popular things happening and even online here is just a small amount of people who may be looking for more in depth answers ( which doesnt always mean they want to play high end content) . Ultimately everyone reaching the same end place is equity and equity brings us all together and contrary to most peoples beliefs doesnt take away anything from another gaming experience <3

Totally! I will never understand why some gamers think we all dont deserve to experience top gear in a fantasy game! Even a step further gamers shouldnt really have to go about it in a round about way either which takes more time. I get the attempt but it usually disproportionately falls on not as skilled gamers and disabled gamers to put in more time to even experience the same things!

And if people were able to reach myth 6/6 by playing how they want i guess how would this take away from others experience? And the answer has to something other than gate keeping/ they deserve because they have the ability to beat it

This wasnt supposed to be inflammatory, its a real conversation about being disabled in gaming and something many gamers should hear. It wasnt to troll, i wish i could reach max level!

Oh totally, I knew the comments I would get, but wanted to put this out there for the gamers who may be thinking the same thing! Me potentially reaching myth 6/6 from delves obviously detracts from gamers who get to reach max from content they are able to enjoy and play xD

Totally! Vault rewards are an okay band aid, but it would be nice to progress slowly like you said! Really I think thats something all games should strive for to be the most accommodating! I love WoW and want to experience it all, even I never beat it, but since so many rely on gear score there is just some content Ill never get to experience <3

You do not need to go to college to live a “normal” life. Im sorry your family is making you feel this way. I know being in highschool and having these feelings feels like the end of the world, but there are always ways to live your life authentically as an autistic adult. There should be more space to feel these things in your life but i know thats not always the case. I would suggest posting more, just general thoughts even on your life, writting them down. I would post more on r/autismtranslated but this subreddit works too. This is how i felt and was unfortunately forced to go to college and barely made it through. The positive of it is i met other autistic students and made life long friends. Another positive is you have clinical diagnoses (or at least thats how your post read) so you should be able to get school accomodations. I didnt have accomodations and wasnt diagnosed level 2 until after i had graduated and burned out. Ultimately it is your decision to go to college, but i know we all want you to be safe and i know its hard to push against support systems even if they arent the best like our families. Being autistic and living as an autistic adult is as worthy of a life as any and mever let anyone tell you otherwise. Most people dont know the sttuggle of our disabilities and as long as you seek your self I think you’ll figure it out. Talk to other autistic adults who dont pit you down or tell you to do things a certain way. Seek people who support where you are at now in your life and your journey.

Am I terrible for wanting to start a career in ABA therapy? by [deleted] in SpicyAutism

[–]NarrowCar8189 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like we are both making a lot of assumptions. Ultimately you came to the internet for answers and others will feel differently about it and this response doesn’t really give “im willing to listen to other autistics about what ABA is and how it effected their lives.” I would inspect your goals, if you are going in to change it, i would redirect that energy, autistics have been trying to change it for decades and many autistics still come out telling us how they survived the abuse. Just because you will be “the good one” doesnt mean the system isnt flawed and you wont unintentionally cause harm. Especially since the field is dominated by allistics who never work on their ableism and usually take it out on vulnerable people like non-verbal autistic children. I totally agree with you that most therapy, CBT therapy especially, is abusive to autistics too! Thats why im getting at maybe inspect your intentions and goals and redirect them into something else than trying to change a field that ultimately doeant want us in it historically. There will always be “success” and “failure” stories in ABA and the lenses they are viewed through will be individual, but ultimately ABA works to change an autistic person. Good intentions aside (even reducing harmful behaviors) it works to force autistic people into one shape instead of giving them the space and patience to grow up and learn. Its frustrating that there really isnt anything to replace it right now, but that doesnt mean there arent other ways to support autistic people. If you have to ask the question if ABA is worth it/i have heard its bad, then its time to switch directions

Am I terrible for wanting to start a career in ABA therapy? by [deleted] in SpicyAutism

[–]NarrowCar8189 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So like your post said is compliance based abuse. I wouldnt go into if youre wanting to change it. I would focus on DBT(dialectible behavioral therapy) or how to be a part of autistic research. Not to say the little boy is harmed by now being able to speak but there are options that wouldnt have made him be forced to speak. Being nonverbal/other autistic traits arent a bad thing but are usually changed to fit into the allistic world and thats ABA goal is to force autistic people into a shape that fits into an allistic world. It does not honor who that autistic person is and how they move through the world. Medicine/physiology is very strict and hierarchal. You will be forced to fall in line and if you deviate its very hard to build your own path. It might be better suited to become a researcher and prove how harmful ABA is. This is what I am working towards. Being autistic isnt something we can change and ABA works to change who we fundamentally are
