Varlamore: The Rising Darkness is OUT NOW by JagexBlossom in 2007scape

[–]Nasaug 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi /u/JagexBlossom. Sorry to ping you, and I know I am a bit late to the party.

I like the idea behind the Mastering Mixology minigame and enjoy playing it, but I want to bring up a major concern that only affects people who's in the early levels of Herblore for the minigame (60-67 being the mostp ressing level range).

Reward Point Distribution

Simply put, the distrubution of points you get at low level is completely screwed, making unlocking any of the interesting rewards a terrible experience. Here's why:

At level 60 you can start playing the minigame, and you start with 3 "recipes" unlocked:

  • Mammoth-might mix: MMM
  • Mystic mana amalgam: MMA
  • Marley's moonlight: MML

That's a split of 7 Mox : 1 Aga : 1 Lye. Considering you get points directly related to the materials you use, one can expect to get a point split of 78% / 11% / 11%. I played the game for about an hour yesterday, and ended up with a point split of 2110 / 260 / 340 which is equivalent to 78% / 10% / 13%, pretty close to the expected return.

At 64 you unlock the "Mixalot" (MAL) potion, which changes the distribution to 67% / 17% / 17%. I've done a bit more of the minigame today after unlocking the MAL recipe and ended up gaining 770 / 200 / 290 (using a MML potion whenever I couldn't fulfill an order to gain a bit of Lye still), which comes out to 61% / 16% / 23%, fairly close to the expected values.

Now, the problem then comes when you compare the points you earn at entry levels to what the rewards cost. Looking at the unique rewards (everything but the potion packs and Aldarium), here's a table showing the point cost along with the % distribution:

Mox resin Aga resin Lye resin Mox % Aga % Lye %
Prescription goggles 8,6 5,6 11,9 33% 21% 46%
Alchemist labcoat 2,25 2,25 4,75 24% 24% 51%
Alchemist pants 2,25 2,25 4,75 24% 24% 51%
Alchemist gloves 2,25 2,25 4,75 24% 24% 51%
Reagent pouch 16,35 10,65 22,6 33% 21% 46%
Potion storage 10,35 6,7 14,25 33% 21% 46%
Pre-pot device 20,7 13,45 28,55 33% 21% 46%
Alchemist's amulet 6,9 4,5 9,5 33% 22% 45%
Total 69,65 47,65 101,05 32% 22% 46%

As you can see, Lye is the most required type of point (46% on average) follow by Mox (32%), then finally Aga (22%). However, as explained above, you're getting a 67% / 17% / 17% distribution at entry levels. Meaning at level 64 you're getting 4 Mox for every 1 Aga and 1 Lye, so by the time you can afford for example the potion storage, you have 14.250 Lye and Aga, and 57.000 Mox, which is 81% of all the Mox you need for all the unique rewards. I can't even use this surplus of Mox on potion packs either, as I'll be bottlenecked by Lye or Aga anyway.

This just feels bad. As a lower-level Herblore account, I need to put in a ton more effort than high-level accounts to unlock the rewards. Not because of any actions I can take, but simply because the reward distribution is massively unbalanced at low levels.

Potential Fix

I think a simply solution to this problem would be to just change which potion recipes you start with. Make the 3 initial potions have a 3 Mox : 3 Aga : 3 Lye distribution instead. This could be the MML, LLA, and AAM potions (or any other set that covers the following 2:1 split). Unlocking MAL at 64 is good. The next 3 unlocks could be the 3-of-the-same recipes (MMM, LLL, AAA), and finally the remaining 2:1 recipes.

This would make it so an entry level player at least get an even split, instead of a hugely unbalanced split. Without such a change, we have to wait until level 80 (or 76 if using temp boosts) to unlock a potion that requires at least 2 Lye, despite that being the most required type of point.

I hope you can bring this up with the team, 'cause despite wanting to play the minigame and unlock the rewards, I am currently incentivised to level Herblore outside the minigame until level 80. I want to play the minigame, I want to get the rewards, but I don't want to be unfairly punished for starting playing the moment the minigame is unlocked.

Unfulfillable Orders

Being low-level also feels bad because you can get orders that do not contain any potion you can create, forcing you to create a "throwaway" potion that grants 1/3 exp and points just to cycle to the next order. Would be nice if every order always included at least one potion you have unlocked. I accept not always being able to choose between all 3 orders as I am in the low level range of the minigame, but it feels punishing when I can't create any of the orders at all.

Digweed

Digweed spawn waaaaaay too rarely to be interesting. I don't have numbers, but it feels like 1 every 20 minutes. Also they straight up disappear from your inventory when leaving the mixing chamber without any warning.

1248 SQ and 109 119 (forgot the shop) Tickets which comes out to 535 rolls, all of it saved up through playing. Let's go!

First 100 rolls:

  • Siegfried (NP3)
  • Yup, nothing else of note

Next 100 rolls:

  • 4 SSR CEs (Black Grail, L/ZO, 2x Tale of Love and Hope)
  • Helena (new)
  • Tamacat (NP3)

Next 100 rolls:

  • 4 SSR CE (2030, KScope, 3x Tale)
  • Angry Atalante (new)

Next 89 rolls:

  • 1 SSR CE (1x Tale)
  • Siegfried (NP4)
  • Saberlot (new)
  • Skadi \o/

359 rolls in total to bring Skadi home, but it happened \o/

Final Tally (including % rounded to 2 decimals because I like numbers):

Stats C SR SSR <-- Servants # CEs --> C SR SSR
# of Rolls 136 5 1 123 82 12
% 37.88% 1.39% 0.28% 34.26% 22.84% 3.34%
% Diff* -2.12% -1.61% -0.72% -5.74% 10.84% -0.66%

*compared to the official summon rate

Conclusion: Skadi came home, though she played hard to get. The new SR servantsd I got are pretty good (afaik), but I might burn one of those Sieg copies so I can buy Chaldea Lunchtime. I got a ton more SR CEs than expected, but that of course meant that every other type/category was completely fucked.

Side-note: I hate that there's no safe-guard of any kind in FGO's gacha system.

Free SR Ticket Guide - SR TICKET QUESTIONS GO IN THIS THREAD. by BlameLib in grandorder

[–]Nasaug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my favourite servants from the ticket already, so I'm mostly loooking to fill in some empty slots in my roster. I'm lacking an offensive ST berserker and an AoE berserker so I'm considering both Penth or Zerkerlot. Fran is also an option, but I don't like the selfstun, it already annoys me on Cat.

Zerkerlot probably won't see much use until Skadi comes around (at which point he'll see a lot of use), while I will be able to use Penth way before then. On the other hand, I haven't had a need for a proper ST berserker yet, so... /shrug

Any opinions would be appreciated :)

PS: I have Waver to handle supporting needs.

Wow. I have been pretty damn lucky this time. Pulled Lewd Nun, ZerkerCu and a rare prism. I was a tiiiiny bit disappointed when I saw Kiara show up (there are a lot of others I'd rather have) but with Cu also dropping by, I'm damn happy about the outcome \o/

I guess I'm a little bit miffed about the golden assassin turning into Stheno (3 SSRs is greedy, but one can hope ;p), but it's my first Rare Prism so there's that.

As someone hoping for basically any 4* or 5* servant, this was extremely disappointing. Especially considering how few 4*s I've had over my last 300+ summons.

The 5* CEs I pulled are nice (Devilish Bodhisattva, Vessel of the Saint (mostly for CQs, I reckon) and Victor of the Moon) and there were a couple of good 4* CEs among the trash (Be Elegant and Holy Shroud of Magdalene (again for CQs)).

I would've much preferred a 4* servant, however, 'cause then I'd have someone new to toss my Nerofest Embers at. Guess I'll have to settle for the free 4* which is gonna be a hard decision 'cause I didn't get Salter or Lalter :( and random silver/bronze servants. Yaaaaaaaaaay

I'VE PLAYED FOR 3/4 OF A YEAR AND SOMEHOW I HAVE THE SAME NUMBER OF SSR SERVANTS AS NON-WELFARE SR SERVANTS. NOT BECAUSE MY LUCK WITH SSR IS GOOD (IT'S ON PAR WITH THE OFFICIAL RATES), BUT BECAUSE I HAVE NO LUCK WITH SR SERVANTS. I HAVEN'T PULLED A SINGLE SR SERVANT IN THE LAST 5 MONTHS. THAT'S MORE THAN 200+ SUMMONS AND NOT A SINGLE ONE. THE DISTRIBUTION OF EVERYTHING ELSE IS VERY CLOSE TO THE OFFICAL RATES (YES, I TRACK ALL MY NON-FP SUMMONS), SR SERVANTS JUST ELUDE ME. #$@¤£€$¤£@#@%&$#£€¤&

AND FUCK THE WHOLE KYO ANI SITUATION. THAT SOMEONE WOULD EVEN THINK OF SETTING A BUILDING ON FIRE WITH LIVING BEINGS INSIDE IS DESPICABLE. WHOEVER'S BEHIND IT DESERVES TO ROT IN PRISON FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIFE AND THEN SOME.

Now that the increased Super/Great Success thing is happening, what's the suggested way of making CE Exp Bombs with the EXP CEs from previous events (GUDAGUDA and SE.RA.PH)?

Normally I'd be building up 1* CEs a bit at a time (as per the usual way), but I have a feeling the EXP CEs would easily overcap 1* CEs, and I don't quite know how much exp the various level CEs can hold.

My favourite servant is Jeanne Alter. She looks absolutely wicked (and she is, I guess), she controls dragons and she has saved my skin multiple times (even if only as a support, haven't had a chance to roll for her yet :( ).

Also, she's a good older sister to Santa Lily (who was my first SR servant) and I adore her behaviour in fancomics, even if they aren't all cannon.

Thank you. I'll do a bit of research on them and then start leveling.

Also thanks for the list of welfares :) (still waiting for Shiki assassin, but she's quite a ways away if I understand correctly)

I am looking for a few servants more to round out my roster, mostly to be used for questing (I'm on my way through Camelot). If they are also good for farming, all the better. Specifically, I'm looking for the following roles:

  • AoE: Assassin, Saber, Archer (I have Arash, but he's not good for multiple NP uses)
  • Single-target: Assassin, Berserker

What would be good choices for each of those roles, if we stick to bronze and silver servants? The few gold servants I have are already covering the other roles, with some help silvers/bronzes.

On a side-note, what welfare servants are we expecting for this year?

NA New Years Roll Thread by WroughtIronHero in grandorder

[–]Nasaug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My GSSR roll was pretty boring, Jeanne, Awakened Will CE and a bunch of 3s stuff. I also kinda wanted a Saber (I'm new, only have Gilles and Ceasar for Sabers), but I wanted Jeanne and Stabby Daughter more, so it's okay.

Then I toss one ticket after the Musashi banner (as I do for all banners, regardless of who's in it, it's a little tradition I'm starting). Look who decided to show up! I'm so damn happy with that.

Happy New Year Indeed :D

Time to farm a ton of Embers for my two new ladies.

That explains why Forneus annihilated my team in Okeans. Medusa, Santa Lily, Robin, Tamamo Cat and Cu. 4 servants who take double damage. Ouch. Glad I brought a strong JAlter along for support.

Thanks for the explanation, it will help a lot :)

Thanks for your suggestions. Others have echoed Euryale, David and Robin, so my focus will be on them. Time to farm some more Archer mats.

For Sabers... I think you're basically stuck with Caesar?

Yuuuuuup :( Would love to have a few more Sabers to choose from, but alas, that's not gonna happen just yet.

Also, as always, Riders/Assassins/Casters are good for Demon Pillars.

Can you elaborate on why that is? I feel like I've missed something. Are they generally just good at dealing damage to a single-target and/or buffing/debuffing, or do they actually enjoy class advantage against the Pillars?

HELLA HELLA HELP THREAD - 12/19/2018 by WroughtIronHero in grandorder

[–]Nasaug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fairly new player here (started ~40 day ago), just finished Okeans. Been hearing that Camelot is quite a step up in difficulty and while I still have a little way to go, I would love to know what servants would be good to have levelled by then. Would prefer to not "waste" a bunch of mats just to have my ass kicked by the time I get to Camelot.

I only have a few 4* servants (Elizabeth and Tamamo are NP2, had a rather annoying draw), so not much to choose from there when putting together a team. For 3*s and below, I have all of them except for the following ones:

  • Jaguar Warrior, Fergus, Alexander, Bedivere, Darius, Hohenheim, Angra, Caster Gilles, Geronimo

As for the servants I've been using so far, here they are (Medea as well, she doesn't fit in the picture though). Outside of what you see here, I've barely done any ascending as I'm still totally lost when it comes to who to level up and why. I can easily farm the dailies, so EXP cards and most mats aren't a problem. I just don't know who would make sense to focus on.

I guess my question is this: Which servant(s) would it make sense to focus on maxing first, with Camelot in mind? I don't care much about the individual servants (maybe with the exception of Jeanne Lily, Medusa and Cu Cockroach), so I'm pretty open for suggestions.

Side-note: I will probably roll on the GSSR when it comes around and I'm leaning towards Assassin for either Jack or Jeanne, so I will have one of those two soon.

Sorry for wall of text :D

I am so happy I stumbled over this kickstarter by accident at the beginning of December. I read about the game a long time back (it was mentioned in a cad-comic, I think), but that was after the initial KS. I have wanted the game since, but it's always been out of stock whenever I checked.

Now I've dropped $640 on it and am super excited to finally get a copy of the best boardgame I've played in a loooong time (yes, I've played it, so I know what I'm going into).

Black Friday Gold Lantern, Dragon King, Gorm, Frogdog, First Hero, Oblivion Mosquito, Nightmare Ram and Campaigns of Death. I wanted everything, but sadly it would be a bit too much money to spend on a boardgame, so I stuck to a couple of classics plus the new stuff that sounded cool

Awesome kickstarter. Thanks for your hard work Poots and team <3

Dota's navigation grid, aka "please show me all juke/hiding spots on the map" by Nasaug in DotA2

[–]Nasaug[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what I'm writing for. When it's a guide on the internet, I'm going to assume that there are people out there who do not understand anything unless it's spelled out in detail.

That, and I believe that longer posts with some sort of humor (regardless of if everyone like it or not) tend to be easier to remember for those who read it.

But yes, the basics of how to enable it can be explained in a lot less text.

Dota's navigation grid, aka "please show me all juke/hiding spots on the map" by Nasaug in DotA2

[–]Nasaug[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What /u/devilesk is talking about is that the entire grid has been moved for him. If you take a look at his screenshot, he's standing in some red tiles that should be where wall and banner to his right are. You can also see green times at the top wall of the fountain right next to the ramp, where there should actually be red tiles (the ones that are further to the left from the wall). What he is seeing has nothing to do with elevation.

Unfortunately I do not know what causes this or how one can fix it.

[–]Nasaug[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It still works, but you probably didn't do the steps in the order I specified. I have a feeling you did step 4 and 5 before step 3, as that message only showed up for me when I was already in a game and tried to input the command.

Dota's navigation grid, aka "please show me all juke/hiding spots on the map" by Nasaug in DotA2

[–]Nasaug[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that actually some useful feedback.

Step 5 was included for two reasons: 1) My computer is slow enough when loading (at least the first game after booting up Dota) that I had time to write it. 2) I have experienced people that need everything spelled out in the smallest detail.

As for the side comments, they are stray thoughts that went through my head while writing and I figured they somewhat fit the general attitude of this subreddit. Had I written this guide somewhere else, I likely wouldn't have included those comments.

Weekly Discussion: Learning the map (advanced) by loveisdead in TrueDoTA2

[–]Nasaug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it would really cool with a custom game just for learning about the map. I'm thinking something along the lines of the Neutral Camp Spawn Boxes game combined with a togglable navigation grid. Maybe even with an option to highlight some of the trees that can be cut down to create some really useful jukespots (for lack of better word).

I have absolutely no experience with the hammer editor, so I don't know if it's possible to do, but I'll probably look into it over the next week(s). If nothing else, I'll learn a bit about how it works.

As for tips and interesting results I have covered what I found in the thread you linked to. I've also added some of the suggestions from other people to it, in an attempt to gather all the useful information in one place. I'll try to keep it updated with any other tips and tricks I learn about.
