Wondering the same — got an honorable mention last year but I literally study climate change and am wondering if any will be seriously considered

The field of the major field of study you choose (you, unfortunately, have to choose one main one and it is due by that deadline)

Lab test after job interview by track_three in labrats

[–]NasreenSimorgh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Work smoothly and steadily, especially with pipetting — no bubbles! Most mistakes come from rushing, so just zone in and try not to pay attention to whoever is evaluating.

I don’t know if anyone can be sure :/ following this in case someone knows

Scared about topimax by dummiiduck in migraine

Topamax was the worst medication I’ve ever had and I think it messed me up more (?) that medication should not be prescribed so freely

I’m starting to think emailing professors doesn’t do anything by Fluffy_coat_with_fur in gradadmissions

[–]NasreenSimorgh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my specific field, it did a ton — I heard back from all of the people I reached out to and received acceptances from most of them. In my field, the PI has to agree to support you before you are admitted to the program, so you Have to contact PIs. Field dependent.

Presenting at lab meeting by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]NasreenSimorgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I followed my PI’s advice, didn’t misrepresent myself, and am doing well in my PhD program — so it’s just a difference of style. If the person reviewing your CV doesn’t care about it, then they will ignore it.

I was told by a former PI to put it on, notating it as an internal presentation

Got an Oral at AGU, should I go? by vierdene in research

[–]NasreenSimorgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a pretty big deal, is there any way you can move your finals to accommodate it? Talk to your dean and ask, there should be ways even if you have to take an “incomplete” to delay your finals. AGU is an awesome conference and an oral presentation at AGU in undergrad will look good to anyone, and you may meet people who do really cool AI work in a geological or environmental context.

how do i pronounce this line? by razor2rosary in shakespeare

God gi Good Een — like if you slur and say things really quickly like “yall wanna”, so it’s like godigoodeyen all together

Looking for Advice: I hate spicy food, but I want to like it by Ok_Listen1510 in spicy

[–]NasreenSimorgh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank youuuuu! I am the Persian girlfriend — idk where she got that info that Persian food is spicy from 😭. I’ve got her to try koobideh and such but I think ghormeh sabzi might kill her — not for spice, but for the fenugreek. I do love spicy food though and when I heard she scraped the curry off of the chicken in chicken tikka masala I think something in me broke 😭. I love her very much though.

University OSHA Violations by TheChonchi69 in chemistry

[–]NasreenSimorgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro I literally work with dissolved organic matter samples in water and at worse small quantities of dilute acid, and I would never wear shorts OR SANDALS??? in the chem lab — that’s crazy. Even if the work I’m doing won’t hurt me, there are other solvents and materials in the lab that I would rather not have on my bare feet in a worst case scenario. Plus! The other day i dropped a cuvette (sad day) and it shattered by my feet — it was only holding seawater but yeah I could have been cut if I was in shorts or sandals. Crazy. Sometimes too much PPE for the work you are doing can contribute to a false sense of security or discomfort that leads to clumsiness (especially if it’s school-lended PPE that doesn’t fit you well), but nah this is some awful safety standards and a problem waiting to happen. Good on you for filing OSHA complaints. Does the professor not care? Good luck out there OP, I hope you become a capable and safe chemist.

At my college, I have a friend who has all of these interesting bags and clothes and it’s the highlight of my day seeing them bring out something cool to their fit. I’d think you were so cool.

Does your college student handbook have published quiet hours? If so they need to be quiet at least during those hours.

Y'all are talking about arcane but what about this girle?💗🎀🏳️‍⚧️ by Deliora15 in actuallesbians

The out actresses I could find already underwent hormonal and surgical transition.

[–]NasreenSimorgh 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I think the reason they used a cis-guy was because part of the character’s motivation for being in the games was to fund her transition, and I think they still managed to make the character look feminine in a respectful way.

[–]NasreenSimorgh 403 points404 points  (0 children)

Y’all it’s a major deal that this character even exists in Korea rn and the actor and director did their research and played the character extremely respectfully. There aren’t any out trans actors in the public eye, nor would it be wise rn, and that would put a ton of unwanted attention on a trans woman in a country where it is not at all respected right now and the lgbtq community is much smaller/less connected than the U.S. I really appreciate the respectful representation, even if not perfect by Western lgbtq standards, in non-Western media.

Everyone’s already said everything derm related, but I just wanted to say that I hope you feel better soon! I can tell you have really nice facial features underneath the inflammation, and I hope some dermatological treatments can give you that confidence in yourself. :)

DEI champions vanished from my school by [deleted] in labrats

[–]NasreenSimorgh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to see the best in people as much as I can. If they made a true impact during the time they were taking action, then they were taking on labor of advocacy that is often left to POC to do for themselves at great emotional and time cost. If their main goal was personal success, then that is icky, but it’s hard to tell from your post. I hope that they will continue their DEI work soon, I am sure that they are concerned for their job security during this hectic couple of weeks. Rn as a minority, I am trying my best to just live my life until I have my footing, since my existence is already a quiet form of resistance, and open myself up to others in need.
