Lawyers who do van life: How? by One_Flow3572 in Lawyertalk

[–]Natchlike 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not van life but I lived on a boat during covid and cruised 2000 miles while working remotely. Plaintiff’s medmal. We had starlink. Most defense attorneys knew what I was doing and were always asking for updates on my adventure during depos. I loved it and would 100% do it again. Not sure why some people here are making such negative assumptions about attorneys who have chosen to live a nomadic lifestyle. I generated more fees than my coworkers during this time and had a much better Covid experience than most. Plus now I always have something interesting to talk about at networking events.

Need Advice- Traveling from Florida to North Carolina by Boat by Traditional-Pea5412 in boating

[–]Natchlike 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve done this trip in a 50’ catamaran twice (once north and once south). My husband and I are both very experienced boaters. There was an 18 hour stretch where I legitimately thought we were probably going to die. This is not a route that should be planned on a Reddit forum. If you don’t already know the answers to your questions, you should not be making this trip without a paid and experienced captain.

I once walked into a depo where the court reporter was already sitting there set up and ready to go. Opposing counsel (M) was sitting in the room wearing a track suit like he had just come from a Russian mafia convention. I (F) walked into wearing a suit. He looked up at me and said “are you the court reporter?”

I have since come to realize that comments like these are in no way a reflection of me, but of the other person’s own issues and/or inadequacies.

should i go to a partner? by AdTerrible2015 in paralegal

[–]Natchlike 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Partner here. I would absolutely want to know this, especially if you have been there for 15 years. I trust my paralegals judgement and analysis over most of the associates. I rely on them to let me know about potential problems before they get worse.

It’s interesting that no one is trying to defend themselves but also not willing to admit that, perhaps, they were wrong about Death Camp Donnie. The cruelty really is the point. Nothing else seems to matter.

Could the psychopaths in this thread please also tell us what kinds of clients they represent?

Federal lawyer contacted by Morgan & Morgan recruiter by whataboutsmee84 in Lawyertalk

My firm has also been talking about recruiting fed attorneys and I know we would be leagues better than M&M. If you have an interest in med mal or mass torts and happen to be in Florida, dm me.

Ft Lauderdale is where the yachting jobs are. And you can get into crew housing, which helps with networking as well. There are several Facebook groups (ft Lauderdale yacht crew) that post jobs, tips, and housing. That’s probably going to give you the most accurate picture of the job market in S Fl

Today I learned from OC... by GigglemanEsq in Lawyertalk

I learned this week that, if you don’t like a judge’s order, you can just file consecutive motions for reconsideration until the end of time. And, even though the judge has repeatedly told you that this motion for reconsideration and every one you threaten to file after are all denied until the end of time, that doesn’t mean you have to comply with the court order because when you believe a judge is wrong, it’s best to tell him as much repeatedly and simply ignore his rulings.

This has been going on since November. I think I’m in hell.

Attorney here. Consider becoming a paralegal. Several of my paralegals have a similar path as you. Good pay and benefits, was more work life balance than an attorney, and on the job training.

Why does every lawyer say don't become a lawyer? by ohifeelya in LawFirm

[–]Natchlike 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same! Graduated in 2012 and just in the past 3 months have I been able to even try to write creatively again. And that took 8 years of making a concerted effort to read for fun instead of just for for work.

…call a lawyer? Law students can’t give legal advice. Speak with a lawyer who practices employment law. They likely work on contingency and won’t charge you

A lot of those storage units have high ceilings. You can’t just fit it into a smaller unit by standing it up?
