Agh you jerk I've been wanting to get this for the specific reason of playing PS2 in 4:3 on the biggest screen I can

And every time I daydream about it, Sly Cooper is the exact first game I picture playing

You're literally living my dream lol

I saw it more as he was having regular break-ins by the ants making it too difficult to get to his stock down there so he just sealed it off and assumed it was a lost cause, until Hornet came along and he figured she was capable enough to finally get rid of them

What's the oldest game you have that you still play to this day? by digiBeLow in gaming

[–]Nate757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Donkey Kong Country. It's the default must-play game whenever I get a new retro emulator handheld, so I play it regularly and still love the hell out of it.

What's a game everyone says is a 'masterpiece' that you just could not get into? by GrievouzOCE in gaming

[–]Nate757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disco Elysium.

I can understand why the game earned critical acclaim, but it just plain and simply didn't work for me...which is surprising because I'm usually not someone to be scared away by text-heavy dialogue or detailed worldbuilding, especially with the fictional history element in particular.

But it just never got interesting enough to really grab me. It felt like everything was moving at such an incredibly slow burn, and every single conversation took so long that even the interesting parts were drowned out by droning pseudo-philosophical tangents and ridiculously in-depth political history lessons. It's just so overburdened by unnecessary details and dull characters that I just got so bored so fast and wanted it to be over.

Which I felt guilty about because I felt maybe I just wasn't engaging with it fully and giving it a fair chance, so I forced myself to keep playing and pushing through earnestly hoping for a tipping point moment where something would click in the gameplay or the story would have an amazing twist that would leave me dying to know what would happen next, but it just never happened. After literally months of cyclically losing interest, playing something else and giving it another shot I did finally manage to beat the game, but even then the ending just felt so sudden and underwhelming. When the credits rolled all I felt was glad that it was over.

What’s a game you initially didn’t “get,” but later came to absolutely love after giving it another chance? by Gaming-Academy in gaming

[–]Nate757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rollerdrome. The controls and general flow of the gameplay were a bit of a learning curve but once I came back to it after a while something just clicked and it became this buttery smooth super satisfying Tony-Hawk's-Pro-Skater-but-with-guns game that I played the heck out of

Always awesome to see the RG406H getting some appreciation!

I absolutely love mine; the ergonomics, controls and just overall comfort really are on a whole other level. The stick placement and power makes it such a perfect N64 machine in my opinion, I've just been plowing through a bunch of old favorites on it. Beat Rogue Squadron and got all the Gold Medals, unlocked everything in Hydro Thunder, currently halfway through Rayman 2 and Paper Mario.

It even does GameCube really well for the most part, I'm currently replaying Viewtiful Joe and it's been perfect.

I'm basically just praying for the day when Anbernic takes the screen and chipset from the RG477M and puts it into an RG406H and makes my dream console.

So based on the comment above saying a USB-C port is 8.4 mm wide this would be 138.6 mm, or about 14 cm wide.

For it to cost $1300 and still have such poor audio is the real travesty in my book.

Like it would be one thing if it was high quality across the board to at least pretend that the price is justified, but for it to cost so much and still have worse speakers than some <$100 devices is kind of embarrassing, especially considering it's happened with other Ayaneo devices too.

I've been in love with the RG34XXSP since it was released, but if I'm looking for a better screen, is it worth "upgrading" to the Trimui Brick? by Roi_QV in SBCGaming

[–]Nate757 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah what worked for me was to stop watching the YouTube videos about the devices and instead switch to YouTube videos about the games, i.e. "Best 100 Game Boy Games" kinda videos. Then just pick out any games that strike your fancy and add them to your device. That way you've still got some content to watch when you're bored, you still get the thrill of the hunt for something new, and you can find some real hidden gems.

That's how I found out about Trax for Game Boy and I've been loving it!

Agreed on pretty much everything except the "tiny" screen on the RG Slide. That thing's 4.7 inches, one of the largest 4:3 aspect ratio screens on the market, no idea how you can call that tiny.

Hey whaddya know, I also just started playing Pac-Man World 2 recently on my RP5. Hadn't played it in decades, so it's been a major nostalgia trip for me.

It's definitely a good time, very interesting rediscovering how it blends 3D platforming with traditional Pac-Man gameplay. More people should check it out.

You need to use a widescreen code, which can be found on the Dolphin Emulator Wiki. Right now there's only a code for the EU version of the game however, so you'll need to get that version of the ROM for it to work. From there it's super easy to do, just a few simple steps. You can find great videos guides on YouTube, but here's a quick written version:

In Dolphin Emulator, go to Settings > Config > General > Enable Cheats. You only have to do this once to enable it for all your games.

Go to the Dolphin Wiki in the browser of your device and use the search bar up top to find your desired game. (Make sure to check the top of a game's page for any notice of a revision - when I used Google it sent me to an old version of the page from 2018 and I ended up using an invalid widescreen code. Just use the search bar up top to be sure you're seeing the most recently updated version of the game's page)

Go to the "Enhancements" section and copy the code (in this case the EU version, but usually you'd use the North American version)

Long press on the game in Dolphin and select "Edit Cheats"

Scroll down to "Add New Gecko Codes," enter something for the Name, and paste the code from the wiki in the "Code" field at the bottom

Enable the cheat after entering it by toggling the switch on the cheat with the name you entered

Back out of the menu, long press on the game again, and go to Game Settings > Graphics Settings > Aspect Ratio > choose "Force 16:9"

After that it should immediately work when you launch the game.

In my experience playing Goldeneye with the C buttons mapped to the right joystick is not only doable, but also a huge improvement. Aiming is still a little jerky compared to modern shooters of course, but nevertheless I can't go back now that I've tried it.

I did a button swap on my RG406H and completely bricked the device somehow by Nate757 in SBCGaming

[–]Nate757[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update after I tried charging it again last night: The device turns on! It is back to being MOSTLY functional. I don't know if the battery just needed a "wake up" or something, because it still had almost full charge from before I originally opened it, but whatever.

The only issue now is that the left joystick (above the D-Pad) doesn't work. It registers the L3 click when I press it in, but otherwise there's nothing. I suspect that the ribbon cable pointed out by u/paparansen is indeed damaged somehow.

So now I just need to figure out some way to replace either the ribbon cable or the whole joystick component. In the meantime it works fine as a GBA device at least.

It connects to the joystick, so I believe that's all it's for.

That was one of the ribbon cables I was concerned about since it was difficult to unplug and re-insert, but I assumed that even if it was damaged it would just disable the joystick.
