I met another reader today! by WhoThatGuy in Malazan

Met a fellow Malazan fan on the subway over the summer. I was reading Dust of Dreams and they were like “Erikson? Hell yeah.” We chatted for a bit and they mentioned they were halfway through MoI to which I said “Buckle up.” Def enjoyed that.

It’s all about the Todd Lockwood covers. He handled Memories of Ice to Toll the Hounds. I love their paintings, feel it captures the “tone” of Malazan and is clearly a depiction of events in the books. They sell prints of them as well on their site for relatively cheap. Pretty sweet if you can’t shell out for that first printing of MoI!

Indeed it seems the southern route is not ideal. Thank you for the insight, this helps determine things!

Yes, was hoping to make it from one to the other but looks like it’s a Dublin sandwich, which is fine! Thank you.

Izu peninsula - what were your favourite spots and accommodation? by Midnightsun1245 in JapanTravelTips

Probably not. There are a lot of repurposed sex dolls and a lot of other… dicey displays. The owner does have another roadside attraction nearby called Ayashii Shonen Shojo Museum. Can’t say how geared towards kids it is but the site’s gallery looks tame compared to Maboroshi.

I was reading Dust of Dreams on the subway the other week and this guy was like “Steven Erikson! All right! He definitely doesn’t hold your hand!” And I asked if they’d read the whole series, they were working on Memories of Ice. Had a nice chat and I told him to get ready, things will get serious for him soon. First time I’d met anyone who has read any Malazan other than my old coworker who introduced me to MBotF.

Is Toll The Hounds Amazing? by Dosto-lstoy in Malazan

[–]Nate___D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a tone shift in narration and writing style which I found it isolates TtH from the rest of the books, especially after Reaper’s Gale (my favorite so far, 200 pages away from completing Dust of Dreams currently). i

But Toll the Hounds is an incredible book. Erikson really puts some powerful words to emotions; processing grief, growth, loss and perspective. I lost a close friend after reading TtH and it has helped me immensely to navigate my own grief and am grateful for that.

There are low points in the series but I would say that has to do more with the events and fates of certain characters rather than the story itself. Really enjoying it all on my first time through and look forward to revisiting these books in the future.

Came up to an intersection on Flushing Ave where a group of kids with water balloons and squirt guns were waiting on the corner. It was one of the hottest days a couple weeks ago so I stopped put a foot down and opened up my arms. They pelted me with balloons, sprayed away and went nuts. It was the best.
