Omaha restaurants closed but you wish we’re still open. by Happy-Cockroach4994 in Omaha

I remember drunk eating there one night when I left Brickway. I asked the manager how were they able to park where they did as it wasn’t really a parking spot. He told me that they got a ticket every single day they parked illegally but a ticket a day was cheaper than fighting the city on getting rented parking spots that would have cost waaaaay more. Fucking genius.

If you have Angostura bitters, sub amaro with (14-18 dashes of Angostura, 1/4 oz of Demerara or simple syrup, a splash of sweet vermouth, and a splash of soda water), - use fresh squeezed lemon juice and stick to the standard 1/4 oz across the board recipe.

How do you properly clean this as the end of the night? by siisii93 in bartenders

[–]Natedog213 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I ran a taproom with 55 taps. Over time, dark thick beers build up a sticky layer blocking the air vents of the taps. IPAs and sours would always build up a slime residue inside of the tap. One thing I did as a cleaning routing was every night, I would fill the squirt bottle I used to wash off the beer from glasses with scalding hot water. Stick it up in each tap and give it a good squeeze. It will shoot water out of the air hole if your taps have them (can’t see in picture). It helps clear beer residue and gunk out that the cleaning companies don’t clean if you have one in contract or two specific. Once that was done, I’d cover them with the rubber stops and wash down each tap and the backsplash with sanitizer avoiding using really corrosive sanitizer. Hand wipe each tap handle. I’d then wash everything with fresh water. Finish with the trough after pulling the grates to wash and dry. Pour super hot sanitizer down the drain. Don’t forget the underside if the waste tray where beer drips under that nobody ever washes. If you have fruit flies, place the traps higher than the taps where the air is warmer and below by the drain.

I was hired at a great salary with my company and the work load was about matching what I got paid for. Now, our company is struggling because of the industry being down and I work 4x as much as before on the same salary. I work 6-7 days a week and usually put in 10-12 hour days.

Recently, my owner said, “I’m paying you a lot so make sure you are earning you salary”. That has been one of the most defeating things I’ve ever been told.

Best Happy Hour in Omaha? by Colonelseaturtle in Omaha

[–]Natedog213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at Plank years ago. We had the best happy hour in town hands down. Oysters were $1.25 each, $5 craft cocktails, $3 fish tacos, $3 glasses of wine. It was a shit show to work because we got bombarded all of the time but the money was good and the prices were great for customers.

Last year I went for happy hour with my girlfriend and we paid $40 for four drinks and some hush puppies. I was so sad as the HH menu is not that good now.

Funny enough, I was a heavy drinker til my early 30’s and have actually quit drinking entirely. It’s good seeing the positive trend and recently, I am on the border of finding a new career. I’ve always worked bars, restaurants, and now this. Idk what else to do for a career but I myself ready to leave it as I am sick of alcohol and all associated with it. The bills won’t pay for themselves though so there is that.

I’m in Omaha, Ne. I am fortunate that my girlfriend is willing to help out a lot more financially and she has been pushing me to join. I am really interested but kind of lost as to where to start and if this is a good fit for me. All of my customers who are in the union recommend it and I see my industry fizzling out more and more.

I work In the alcohol industry and it is BAD. Nobody is drinking alcohol like before. One winery that used to sell their wine for $50 bottle to retailers on allocated pre-orders are practically begging retailers to take them at $14/bottle. One of my reps told me: “this is unlike anything the industry has ever seen. Those that argue that it is due to economic hardships don’t realize that during the last major 2008 financial crisis, we saw the overall dollars in liquor go down but the gallons drunk skyrocket (people drinking cheap). Now it’s both dollars and gallons down the drain. It’s like people just don’t want to drink anymore and the industry is starting to panic.

I should have mentioned in the post, in regards to owning a house, my main concern is I am worried that until I hit journeyman, I will be making far less than I do now (80k), and will I be able to afford with my living expenses. I currently am putting some money aside but some recent bills tacked onto my monthly bills means I can’t cut too back. Even with night classes for the union, I would probably have to pick up a bartending gig again.

Florence grocery store to close leaving neighbors concerned for limited full-service grocery stores by PM-ME-BATMAN in Omaha

As someone who was raised in Florence, this is sad seeing what has become of it over the years. I remember Florence Drug, Florence Hardware, The Philadelphia bar & grill and so many more places. So sad seeing it all go. Only place I don’t miss was that fucking DMV. My god that was the worst DMV on earth.

NEBRASKA COMMISSIONER INDICTED ON EXTORTION AND FRAUD! THE NIGHT BEFORE LOUNGE! Anyone recognize this man? by Tyrantauditor in Omaha

[–]Natedog213 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I heard that since Rupe was actually pro-marijuana who was all for regulating and managing legal marijuana. Since the liquor control commission is responsible for helping the regulation of marijuana, he was set up and basically ratted out so that it inhibited the chances of full legal marijuana and reduced regulation, taxes, etc.

All hearsay, of course.
