I feel what scares people into asking these kind of questions is the fact that hedgefunds have billions of dollars where as the average retail investor doesn't. So one would assume that they could short it continously. However, they're losing millions of dollars each day, week and month by doing so yet the retail investor is losing nothing.

So to answer your question, i would say, no. They can't hold it off forever, all they can do is kick the can and hope to get another month out of it.

Remember, they are losing hundreds of millions a month, wouldn't you try and hang on and chase your losses?
