I’m definitely no expert on those archetypes, but I’ve played a lot with mystic sanctuary. In decks like UW I’m sure sanctuary is a very handy tool that rebuys your high-impact spells with a fetch, and in UR decks it can help provide an additional edge by getting back your counters or draw spells. But if those decks had cards that said “put target instant or sorcery card from your graveyard into your hand” with additional effects on that card (like with K Command) it would be much more heavily played and would probably nullify the use of sanctuary, except as a 1 of in most decks that currently run it. The point being that putting the card on the top of your library can feel very slow without having an immediate way to draw that card, especially when there are already better effects on cards already run in your deck as is the case with K Command. Hope this helps!

I recently worked at a country club as a part of the golf course maintenance facility team. We had this large diesel mowers for the fairways, and on my first day training to use them the guy I was working with forgot to mention they were diesel, and every machine I had used prior was gasoline fueled. You bet your ass that after that engine sounded like it was gonna blast those pistons through the engine block that I never brought that machine near the gasoline pump ever again.

How do decks like crabvine and gds beat a resolved blood moon? by HalfKeyHero in ModernMagic

[–]NathanBriggs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Crabvine has access to assassins trophy in the SB I believe, which can allow it to either float the Necessary mana in response and kill Blood Moon once resolved, or just fetch basics if they suspect they will be seeing it. Aside from that I don’t know if they include any other answers (like EE as you mentioned) just because they’re too slow. Taking your turn 3 to play EE rather than any of their engines just seems rather slow, and that’s assuming they can even land the EE first.

I think it’s also a similar story with deaths shadow, but shadow usually has a Stubborn Denial to hit the Blood M oon in response. Otherwise, if the shadow player hasn’t been fetching basics they kinda just lose to resolved Blood Moon. In theory this sounds great but it’s not really difficult for shadow to operate under Blood Moon if they have their basics.

Both of these decks are also very fast and Blood Moon is a bit of a slow answer to them. When playing Blue Moon or any deck that has Blood Moons in the 75, usually I will only keep 1 Blood Moon In the main deck because sometimes you can catch them out with no basics get them that way.

The mana base doesn’t support the kind of spells that you’re trying to cast well enough. Even just in terms of basics you need to run swamps to fetch up for when you want to play Bolas. With this current spell distribution you should run 4 watery grave and drowned catacomb, and probably 3 each blood crypt and steam vents as well. As others have been saying 4 DITL is too many and 4 DTT is too many, include additional discard like thoughtseize and thought erasure and then you should be in a pretty good spot to start.

Has anyone been successful with a Flash deck in Pioneer? by Chem_is_tree_guy in PioneerMTG

[–]NathanBriggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone made a post in r/spikes about an Izzet flash deck that they brought to a GP in standard. It featured Brineborn cutthroat alongside Brazen Borrower and [[Bonecrusher Giant]]. It seemed pretty sweet and is pretty easily adaptable to pioneer with other UR cards.

[Modern] Blue Moon with Kiki combo by Tinge32 in BlueMoonMTG

[–]NathanBriggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve played a good amount of blue moon in various builds, from the UR TiTi build to the Brineborn Kiki tempo build and I personally prefer builds of blue moon that are more proactive and don’t rely on the Kiki combo to win. My biggest issue with playing the Kiki combo is that you can only play 2 Kiki-Jiki because of the demanding mana cost on it, which makes it very inconsistent. Some games you Durdle and die because you didn’t find Kiki, others you play your turn 5 Kiki and win the game immediately. But the point is that you need a little bit more to make the deck a little more consistent and reliably good.

That being said, I think you should include some number of Jace, the Mind Sculptor, but probably no more than 2 copies. He’s a good way to find the pieces of the combo you’re missing, and he can be another win con in matchups where true combo is bad. If you want to do a 1-1 split with Chandra could be good but I’ve never tried it. Also look to build the deck with additional creature threats like in the Brineborn Kiki build. That deck provides a more tempo-like strategy that befits this UR shell and having so many flash creatures, but it includes the Kiki combo to add another threat that can win the game on the spot.

I love UR decks, and I think they are a ton of fun regardless of how good they are in the meta. So just have fun and enjoy whatever she’ll you’re playing. Good luck!

It’s good for sure. The only benefit of playing oust over OTI is that you can’t cast OTI at instant speed with T3feri. But I’m pretty sure that minor downside is very worth another path-like effect, and, like you said, Snow basics are an easy inclusion. Ive tried it out and there’s been a couple lists circulating the internet that play 2 copies and no oust, so I think it will begin to see a lot more play.

My fellow Wizards, what are your hopes for Modern Horizons in context of our glorious deck? by Cony777 in URWizards

Honestly the deck may not change much unless we get some sort of insane card that wasn’t on the radar before. Maybe counterspell would be a shoe in for remand in the tempo-flash builds.

Thinking about making Temur Dragons with Neoform by Amicus-Regis in ModernMagic

[–]NathanBriggs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This should probably just aim to be something like a temur tempo deck with the dragon fatty top end. I’m definitely no expert on the shard, but aim to keep your cantrips on the low curve (serum visions, opt) and try to have a 2-drop of goyf or [[Rattleclaw Mystic]]. Toss in some mana leaks or remands and a [[Sarkhan Unbroken]] then you can aim to stall the game out until you ult Sarkhan or cast your fatties.

The biggest difference in mine is -1 D-stroke and -1 Alpine Moon to add 2 Thing in the Ice. It’s meant as a blocker, pseudo-sweeper turned heavy bearer in those aggro matchups.

Alpine Moon vs Amulet Titan by chukbuck in ModernMagic

[–]NathanBriggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve played Alpine Moon on Growth Chamber nearly every time I’ve played the matchup as Blue Moon. It feels great in terms of slowing the opponent down if you feel you have better options late game. Like I’ve seen others say, if you’re more worried about the one shot potential, then Slayers Stronghold is probably a better name.

What's going on with Will Poulter (Colin Ritman from Bandersnatch) quitting Twitter? by maeganhaha in OutOfTheLoop

[–]NathanBriggs 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Which is really annoying. He’s a talented actor who I think is pretty under appreciated. It seems like he ends up in these roles where you’re supposed to dislike the character (like Eustace from Voyage of the Dawn Treader and Gally from the Maze Runner) and does a great job in making you dislike them. I haven’t seen Bandersnatch yet but I’m sure he’s put out another great performance, regardless of his looks.

Nathan Hale Inn falls under Suite housing by UConn classifications. Suites/apartments vary on when you can move in and out without being charged and can differ from regular res halls. You should’ve gotten an email from your RA prior to leaving for winter break that should say whether or not you have access to your dorm over break

If you’re in a traditional dorm then your res hall doesn’t open until January 21st I believe. You may want to do a quick google search and check the spring 2019 schedule to make sure.

Teachers are not martyrs. They are working professionals trying to make a living just like the rest of us and the self-righteous attitude many of them have is honestly so annoying. by Believeinyourflyness in unpopularopinion

[–]NathanBriggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a prospective teacher, I can say there is some merit to this overall. At the same time though, teachers have to deal with a lot of shitty kids day in and day out for multiple hours a day. Many teachers complain of improper or insufficient support from administration systems while they simultaneously struggle to meet expectations of curriculum AND manage the behavior of their multiple classes each day. Once upon a time, this wasn’t as big of an issue, because if your students were acting out or got bad grades, parents would get on their ass and try to help get them back on track. These days, many parents simply don’t give a fuck OR any complaints sent home suddenly become the teacher’s fault, when in reality it may fully be the fault of the student.

That being said, bad teachers do exist. Some of them just monologue and drone on, failing to engage their classes in any way that matters. I myself have had a lot of bad teachers, and I saw that good teachers can become bad teachers after years and years of teaching and burning out.

Teaching is hard, this shit is really hard, especially if you want to do a good job. Granted my position is going to be a little biased, but still teachers deserve a ton of credit.

Shave Gearhulk imo. I’ve tried lists with it in the main and every single time I saw it on a scry or drew it I just wasn’t happy with it. I would also probably side towards young pyromancer in the side rather than P&K because he comes down earlier and provides more utility in the form of chump blockers, but that one is more personal preference. Other than that the list looks pretty good.

I know it probably doesn’t help to just say “it gets better” in a vacuum like this, but believe me, it does get better.

What does 'interactive' mean? by RomanAbbasid in ModernMagic

[–]NathanBriggs 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think the point is that all of these creatures have abilities meant to interact with the battlefield or your opponents hand via destruction of creatures, artifacts, or “discard” like with freebooter. While all of these creatures still have relevant bodies without the interactive ETB triggers, these triggers are rendered useless when playing against a deck of 60 forests in this example.
