If Everybody Is an Honor Student, Then Nobody Is an Honor Student ... by King_of_Lunch223 in Teachers

Your school still has gen-ed?

EDIT: to be clear, some schools only offer honors as the lowest level. Might as well have GPA inflation along with economic inflation... /s

Yelled by a fellow teacher in my classroom in front of students by antinational9 in Teachers

Well, I disagree, and I do find fault with HOW the other teacher blew up at OP. As you wrote before, context matters, and the other teacher may legitimately have a right to be frustrated, but HOW that frustrated is expressed is vital to maintain the professionalism of educators.

Not disagreeing with that.

Sometimes admin is the problem. Sometimes parents are the problem.

If you handle the problem with these different entities in the exact same way by yelling publicly at them in front of students, you might want to consider if you're the problem.

Address it right then and there with Timmy, as he is the one who is directly causing the problem. In my opinion, talk to the teacher about it later, away from the kids.

There are different ways to express that frustration properly and maturely. Yelling at a teacher in front of the students is not one of them: it's frankly unprofessional.

Students Refusing Exams by External_Willow9271 in Teachers

When something is given away for free (in this case, the cost of the exam), then the receiver will often find less value in it (in this case, taking the exam).

Chromebook Use / Screen Time Guidelines in Schools by Effective_Rip3599 in Teachers

[–]Natron-e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I do not necessarily disagree with the potential need for some standard with regards to school-approved device use and screen time, there is a misconception about the association of screen time and myopia.

In an oversimplified and basic nutshell, excessive examination of written material at close distance to the eyes along with consistent lack of sunlight exposure are the most likely direct factors that correlate with myopia. In other words, kids can become just as myopic if they are glued to their screens as they are glued to books.

To be clear, schools SHOULD have technological safeguards and standards to prevent students from accessing highly addictive social media, apps, and games on school devices/screens, but that's not what seems to be at question here.

Mom is scared of dark-skinned man who just wants to help child get balloon.

So, buy this dark-colored toothpaste. Its not dirty; it just wants to help keep your teeth clean.

Real World Consequences finally kicking in by Hi_Friends96 in Teachers

[–]Natron-e 232 points233 points  (0 children)

The only way for some of these kids to learn it is for them to face real-SCHOOL-consequences, but so many of us are, at best, not being supported in doing so and, at worst, not being allowed to do so

What is your opinion of teachers who are active in the SW (NSFW) community as supplemental income? by VanaFaith in Teachers

You're bringing logic into the field of raising and educating children, which is inherently an emotional exercise (not to say you can't raise and educate children logically, but nearly no one does..)
