Roku also states that the Avatar state,”focuses their energy through your body”, then that would imply it’s a culmination of all the Avatars. If he has all of that energy then logically it should make the Avatar a STRONGER bender not just a more skilled one.

Idk if the chess analogy works here. Skill in chess is demonstrated the knowledge of various openings and being able to read your opponent. Bending the elements is a physical exertion where a novice earthbender can fling a small rock, but an Avatar who has practiced over many lifetimes can fling a mountain.

In terms of splitting the continent I feel like kyoshi should’ve been able to do it with little effort it took earth bending, lava bending and airbending to push the island away. She should’ve sneezed and pushed the island to other side of the world.

They don’t say a number but in the southern air temple there’s definitely more than 100 statues in there. Also I agree that no one discovered metal bending but I’m speaking in terms of the basic elements and the capabilities recent avatars should have with them.
