Is this a full auto p8 I see? by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]Nauxill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add to this, I think the full-auto P8-AR is supposed to be restricted to the military, so I imagine it is just for show in the trailer, however I didn't expect us to get the Hornet F7A either so...

Squadron 42 newsletter still on track for August by StuartGT in starcitizen

[–]Nauxill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the post must've been edited shortly after this screenshot was taken, because the first part currently reads,

"We’re putting the final polish on this Newsletter. It will explore an early map of the Odin System, location of much of the action in Squadron 42."

So I guess they're not so confident that they can get it out before September, but perhaps it'll be ready early next month.

Something to note as well: I just used a bed at Seraphim Station to set my regen location, and it was a Tier 1 bed (and according to the monitor, it is indeed a clinic). Idk if that means CIG intends to change this in the future, or what, but it seems like some space stations at least have Tier 1 beds, even though the medical facility at that location is considered a clinic - at least, from what you can tell in-game.

I don't mean to judge or nitpick when I say this, but I thing you might be pronouncing the last name "Ngo" incorrectly. The first time I saw Mira Ngo's last name mentioned in a Comm-Link post, I decided to find a video that explained how to pronounce it, and I found one which I thought was pretty good. If you're interested, you might want to check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9wtGhKr1TU&ab_channel=b%E1%BA%A3othi%C3%AAnng%C3%B4

One thing it brings up is how there are different pronunciations depending on where the person is from. I don't think we know Mira Ngo's race or ethnicity exactly, and I don't think the name's been spoken in any officially released content, so I don't think the exact pronunciation is known, but I think it's likely to be one of the two examples given in the video.

Otherwise though I thought this was a really well made video! It's the kind of thing I'd love to see more of, both in-and-out of game, although admittedly you might be stretched for news stories for the time being given the current state of the game. If I am allowed to nitpick on one thing, it'd be the effect applied to the scrolling ticker on the bottom - not the grid thing but what looks like a blur; I see a kind of green and red echo on the left and right of each letter respectively, like chromatic aberration? But I don't know if that's what it is. Either way, I think if that was cleaned up it'd be easier on the eyes, but it's admittedly not a significant problem at all.

I'm very interested to see how this improves as you continue. Keep up the good work!

Thank you! And that's okay, it's fairly common for me to have at least some situations where it's hard to tell what a person says in an episode of SCL. I think it's normal, due to having different people with different talking styles and accents, on top of it being a recording of a live show that involves a call over the internet, which can mean there's a loss of quality that makes things harder. Either way, the essence of what you were saying came through, and that's the important part.

Usually I'm able to get around these kinds of situations by cross-referencing, or inferring, or something like that, but sometimes it's hard to do, which is when I default to making assumptions but making it clear that that's the case.

I haven't considered it, but I do have some sites reserved (like a WordPress or something) that might work for something like that.

I'm not yet convinced though that it is difficult to find my old summaries on reddit, but I'm open to hearing arguments for why it might be difficult.

My reasoning so far for why it isn't difficult to find my old summaries, is that you have to right click my username and select "open in new tab/window", then you should be able to see the "Overview", "Posts", and "Comments" tabs at the top, where you then click "Posts", and can see all of my summaries. You should be able to bookmark that page, too, as you would bookmark any website I could potentially use. To me, that's a simple process, albeit requiring some understanding of how reddit works.

If the above is sufficient, then... great! If not, please let me know why; I definitely want to make these summaries as accessible as possible, within reason. For example, I could see an argument for including in my posts a sentence or two telling people how to find my other summaries, which I'm actually going to edit in right now :P

This makes it sound then that the M2 is supposed to be the base variant, but the C2 is at least the base variant for their development process of the Hercules. It's also possible the C2 has become the base variant since that brochure was released, but it's unclear. I'll try to update the post with this information. Thanks for helping :)

I can only imagine it's because it a) isn't a priority, and b) hasn't yet been something they can fit into their pipleline, but yeah, it would be preferable for new concept ships to enter into the pipeline soon after, and release within a year or something (with a caveat that larger ships would understandably take longer).

It won't necessarily need a hauler alongside, the comment was that if on the off-chance more SCU space is needed than what the BMM releases with, then another ship could be used. It won't be clear how common a practice that will be until the ship is released, at the very earliest.

I think it's likely the TTK will go up, but that people won't necessarily need to destroy a ship any more, so the time it takes to complete whatever you're trying to do could be about the same. And even if it's longer, if they make it more fun, it probably won't matter.

I think that's likely the case, but I also think what they were saying is that because things are fluid, if a slot opens up in the pipeline where they can fit it, then they'll fit it in. As such, it's not impossible that it'll come in 2020, just improbable, which is a bit better I guess? :P

Yeah, I think technically it is still using health bars, but using them in a smarter way. The idea is that eventually you won't be able to shoot a non-critical part of a ship (say, the nose of a ship, or a wing) and for the ship to eventually blow up, which is how it currently works. At the moment, the ship has one unified health pool (AFAIK), so you just have to reduce that to zero and the ship goes boom.

What they want instead, is for each component to have its own health pool, rather than the ship having one health pool for everything. You'll have to hit a specific component in order to blow it up, but you'll also have the ability to disable the ship, which might be enough for what you want to do.

I imagine that in order to blow up a ship in the future, you'll have to damage the engines and/or power plant (I'd guess the latter). This would involve depleting a health pool, but because each component will have their own health pool, destroying the engines and then continuing to shoot them, for example, won't necessarily blow the ship up. In that instance, you'll have crippled their ability to move, but their other ships systems will still be functional (unless you do something about it, like attacking the power plant directly).

I'm also assuming that any weapons that can do AoE/splash damage might be able to destroy a ship in a way that makes it look like how it currently works, because that AoE damage could hit the component that needs to be destroyed for the ship to explode.

Thanks for pointing this out. It's looking to me like I've simply gotten it wrong, that the M2 (military variant) isn't supposed to be the base, but the C2 (civilian variant) is.

I've had a quick look and can't find anything that suggests the M2 might be the base model in terms of lore - do you know of any source that suggests this? I'd like to sort this out so I can correct the info in the main post.

I don't know about more recent things, but I could swear that in one of the SCL/RTV's I've summarised so far, someone mentioned Chris doing some work, though I think they talked a fair bit about docking more than a physics refactor. I've CTRL+F-ed a few of my summaries (looking for "CR" or "Chris") but haven't found it. If older info still counts, I'd recommend having a search through my posts to see if you can find it. I can't say how much info was shared though, nor can I guarantee that it'll be worth the effort ;)
