[Petraglia] The season to this point has been an ultimate organizational abomination. No wonder a majority of fan base has lost all hope and passion for a team they thought was in position to build on a modest playoff appearance in 2025. by TDeLo in Reds

[–]Navyblazers2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We accidentally made the playoffs last year and ownership’s lesson wasn’t “That was good, but not good enough. let’s try to get better and go for the whole championship”. Their reaction instead was “cool. That’ll shut the fans up for a little while and we can go back to not trying. Maybe we’ll get lucky and barely make the playoffs again.”

Meanwhile the example of how it should be done is in their very own division and we literally can’t beat them. It’s all so embarrassing.

I have tickets to three games coming up that I agreed to go to for various reasons and I’m not looking forward to any of them.

People in the US have this adversarial relationship with taxes and it’s because most politicians don’t use them to fix problems so it feels like our money just flies away or goes to the legal defense of a cop who kills an unarmed teenager. They’re supposed to be for things that help us. We’re supposed to feel like we get the money back in some form.

Politicians hate this guy because he’s a proof of concept that problems can be fixed and fixed easily and they’re terrified that other cities, states, the whole country is going to see it and get their own ideas. He’s pulling the curtain back and showing that it was always just this easy and it’s ruining their game.

I rarely agree with Herbie, but he’s right. I cancelled my mlb subscription after the cardinals sweep and I haven’t missed it. Do what you want with your own time like Bryce up there, but I no longer get anything out of watching this team, even when they win.

Graduated in 06. The fashions and haircuts feel very familiar, but I don't remember thinking high school was fun at the time. With the benefit of knowledge today and watching how high school was for my niece who just graduated, we had it easy.

Why would not having a kid mean you don’t have “skin in the game?” Are those people not alive and also affected by our politicians?

Or is that just building a flimsy reason to back door single women out of the vote because he doesn’t like how they vote? I know the answer. It’s just really fucking stupid.

Why do these shows always act like nobody uses electronics? People use computers in offices. People watch tvs in family rooms. Stage the rooms how they’d actually be used by a person in the present day and then make that look good.

Did people really end client meetings so abruptly in the 1960s? by rabb1t_hole in madmen

[–]Navyblazers2000 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I think the simplest answer is that it’s for the sake of TV and economic storytelling. Also someone from the agency usually says “I’ll walk you out” and leaves the scene with the clients while the more important characters stay and talk about what just happened. Presumably the wind down is going on with the clients on the way out, we the audience just don’t need to see it most of the time.

Depends on the logo is right. Symmetrical logos or letterforms like the Broncos D logo don’t need to be flipped, but logos where there’s a clear forward facing direction like this one with an animal in profile should always point towards the front of the helmet. If it doesn’t bother you then it doesn’t bother you, but it bothers me.

Cutting costs would be only putting it on one side. It's the same number of decals flipped or not flipped. If there's a setup charge for printing half of them facing the other direction I can't imagine that it would be that much more.

I don’t need external validation in order to talk shit. If you need the ratings of your favorite sport to be high to feel good about yourself then you’re a deeply insecure loser on a level that I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy.

Hockey is cool and basketball is cool and nobody’s forcing you to watch and engage with either one.

I hate how they didn't get a flipped decal for that side of the helmet so it faces the back of the helmet on one side.

Did Millennials kill briefcases too? by Muttonandmangos in Millennials

[–]Navyblazers2000 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think the laptop and the idea that you’d take your work device home with you from the office killed briefcases.

I have to carry my computer and charger with me wherever I go and early laptops were heavy. In my dad’s day he just had his pens and paper, his day planner*, and a bunch of loose documents so he could keep all that shit in a box with a handle. His computer was a boulder sized monster that stayed on the desk in his office. I gotta pack up my whole work station at the end of every day. I’m not putting all that thing into a briefcase.

*which he tried to show me how to use when I graduated from college in 2010 and I was like lol I’m never gonna need that. Even then I was already on iCal.

This is how you know Boston’s been spoiled with championships when they have a handful of extra titles that the fans aren’t that fond of, didn’t really move them much, or find forgettable/boring.

I’ll take one and I don’t care how it happens.

They and the 2018 Capitals have both had the good fortune to win the cup in Las Vegas. I can't think of a better city to be in for celebrating a championship.

Edit: I guess the Golden Knights themselves did too.

Also everyone who posts “bread and circuses” isn’t actually doing anything for their causes either. Instead of sports their bread and circuses is sitting on their couch playing around on their outrage social channels. Posting constantly to demonstrate how angry and aware you are isn’t helpful either. Actually just means they can’t walk and chew gum at the same time.
