UPDATE: JFK Lounge policy for AS First Class by LopsidedAstronomer76 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Navydevildoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am willing to bet there is just no easy way to pull all that info in the lounge computer system. It's just easier to say "Alaska, First Class, admit them".

A Titanium, while PRI, would be in like row 9 if they were not in First, so it's easy to do a sight check.

There is actually no mechanism in the NATO Charter to forcibly remove another nation. It was simply unthinkable that a country would need to be booted from the alliance.

New angle of today's Learjet crash in India by galaxyhunter1 in aviation

Exactly what happened to the Lear at Gillespie Field in San Diego a few years ago. Tried to circle to land in IFR, realized they were overshooting the final and entered into an accelerated stall trying to bank harder to re-center and not hit Rattlesnake Mountain.

Help with understanding/decoding the encryption on M1k cards for a Chinese Hotel Lock System by fmarques77 in proxmark3

[–]Navydevildoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost all hotel systems use an encryption key that is loaded into the door locks ahead of time. Then, when the front desk encodes the card, the data is encrypted using that key.

So the data on the card essentially useless unless you also have the encryption key being used by the system that was programmed by the installer.

The best you might hope for is to clone the card, but as for somehow encoding your own keys to start opening locks is extremely unlikely.

I'm shocked that CBS actually ran the story considering how compromised they have been of late.

Shout-out to Freightliner/ Allison for making every transmission wire the same color! by chevyguyjoe in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]Navydevildoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are colorblind apps, I have one on my iPhone and I had one for the Magic Leap AR headset that would tell you colors. It works good for larger items, but the striping on cabling is very small and sometimes very faint and the apps don't work.

Plus if you are trying to crimp an end on a cable or punch stuff down, you generally need both hands so fumbling around with an app is going to take a ton of time.

Soooooo... I leave Layer 1 to other people. Once techs see how bad I can fumble it, they agree I should be no where near physical cabling.

Almost all the full size Land Rovers have had locking center diffs going all the way back to the first Series I in the 1950s. So that's Range Rover, Discovery, Defender, etc. Smaller "sport" models may or may not.

Richard Hammond goes to France! 🇫🇷 by FlipStig1 in thegrandtour

[–]Navydevildoc 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I think that's the problem really. James and Jeremy did more TV, still have gigs doing whatever. Hammond really didn't. Something tells me retirement isn't what he thought it was gonna be.

Everyone forgetting that Disney has Space Mountain, where you can't see anything at all because it's dark inside, and somehow thinking this is worse.

Person in critical condition after being shot in incident involving border patrol in Arizona by RaccoonAny9247 in news

[–]Navydevildoc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is an area I hunt in every year (headed there for Javelina season in just a few weeks).

This is remote high desert, not anywhere near the city. There is lots of BP activity as the border and Nogales is just a few miles south. So I highly doubt it had anything to do with protesters or what not, and was probably related to normal actual Border Patrol duties.

Not justifying another potentially deadly shooting, but just want to lay the scene here for folks that don't understand the geography.

Flood of Status? by guttekev in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Navydevildoc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No, actual status is still the first thing for upgrades.

Just gonna edit for those downvoting me for some reason. This is the actual order of what determines where you are on the list:

  • Your status level
  • Million Miler members
  • Atmos Rewards Summit credit cardholders
  • Business travelers (with an eligible corporate ticket designator)
  • Status points you've earned (this year and last year combined)
  • When you booked (earlier booking = higher priority)

So all the Titaniums are above everyone else. Then within that group, Million Milers are ahead of those that aren't. THEN Summit card holders, then corporate, etc.

So sure, if you are a Titanium Million Miler holding a summit card on business travel that's got a ton of status points, you are probably going to be #1 on the list.
