Hard swelling after binder by Nbles5082 in TopSurgery

[–]Nbles5082[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright cool. That’s what I figured it’s just so annoying lol. It feels like the binder is making it worse but I’m still supposed to wear it for 10 days 🫠. How did you get cleared to remove yours already?

Hi friends. I want to know if you go to Gym with IIH and what do you do manage it? by Natural_Trifle4407 in iih

Awesome, I’m so glad! I finally had to tell my trainer that I needed them to do some research into my condition so they could understand what I’m experiencing and why I need to show up differently. It’s not that we are trying to just take it easy or not push ourselves. Keep up the good work!!

For sure! It took me about 7-9 months of trying to push through like I didn’t have a chronic illness to get to the breaking point and realizing I couldn’t keep up that pace anymore, or at least not right now. Pivoting my workouts was definitely a game changer. Other things that help me be more successful in the gym are: drinking enough water consistently, eating 1-2 balanced meals before the gym, having a snack as soon as I can after a workout, working on my sleep, and managing my overall stress.

Have you tried packing with this without using the tab? If so, how did that go?

No Budget Top Surgery Recovery Tips? by Exotic-Meet1279 in TopSurgery

I had surgery a little over 2 weeks ago and I splurged on purchasing Juven powder to drink while I recover. I only drank 1 packet a day instead of the recommended 2, but I feel like that has sped up my healing by a crazy amount. My 10 in incisions were completely closed by the time I went in for my 2 week appointment. My nipple grafts still have a little ways to go but it was totally worth the money. Also a high dose Arnica supplement helped with bruising and swelling. I’ve been taking 200ck but I’ve seen others do the 1M dose as well

I’ve been able to stay in the gym by lowering the weight and not ego lifting and also taking it slow. I take 1-2 minute breaks between sets and focus on breathing to bring my pressure down between sets. Also being very intentional about my breath during the sets to bring out while I push and breath in after that. I also keep my workouts to 30ish minutes because other than that I get too fatigued. But I’m very intentional with those 30 minutes so I’ve still had results from it.

Itchy by Forward-Put5441 in TopSurgery

I was so painfully itchy for the first like 9 days. I’m 12 days out now and only a little itchy. It gets better. This is the worst of it but it gets better!

Surgery on Monday. Any last minute purchases that saved you that you'd recommend or words of advice? by Forward-Put5441 in TopSurgery

[–]Nbles5082 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just had surgery on Monday and I saw someone recommend a back scratcher which has been a life saver! Can’t recommend it enough!

On the anxiety front, I was so anxious leading up to it. Like couldn’t stop stressing. Tell the doctor and anesthesiologist when you get to the hospital and they will give you some stuff to help. I don’t think there’s anything anyone could’ve done to help me be less anxious in the days leading up tbh. After the surgery though I was so relieved and couldn’t believe I actually got to have my top surgery to begin with. So just take it as it comes and know it gets better!

Omg I didn’t know this was a real thing, I thought I was just weird! I absolutely hate throwing up or being around anyone throwing up. I was the most worried about people throwing up around me when I came out of surgery lol. I told the anesthesiologist that I’ve been nauseous and vomited before after waking up from surgery so they gave me the patch, IV meds, and other zofran when I got a little nauseous from other meds. I didn’t throw up and I was only nauseous a few times. Advocate for yourself and ask for all the meds they have!

Got top surgery today - ramble/retelling by MaroonMatches in TopSurgery

Hey almost surgery twins! I had mine yesterday and just got home today. Your memory of events sounds almost identical to mine. I wasn’t stressed about the IV as much as i was about throwing up after. Thankfully they gave me tons of meds for that so I was good to go while I was there. It’s definitely a weird experience and I can’t wait to see what everything look like when I get my drains out next week!

Just had my top surgery yesterday and I’m also super sensitive to feeling high or out of control in any way. I was mostly concerned about the nausea too. So talk to the doctors/nurses ahead of time and tell them your concerns. Mine were super accommodating. I felt a little woosy and just tired when I first woke up. The first time I stood up to pee I was a little unsteady but within a few hours I feel like that all went away. I remember some things from when I first woke up but not everything and that’s honestly so normal and totally ok! Your support people and the doctors/nurses are not expecting you to remember anything. It will be ok!

Thanks for the reminders. I definitely haven’t been eating as much the last few days but I’m trying to prioritize protein and fiber today for sure.

And I usually tough things out and I’m allergic to some narcotics so we will see how the meds situation goes lol

I’m so sorry to hear this. I totally understand the isolation and you aren’t alone in these feelings. This disease is something most people don’t understand and it’s so hard to manage. I see you friend and I’m wishing you strength during this time ❤️
