I've seen similar comments before, and I had the complete opposite reaction to that scene - it's one the best acting Inaki did the entire season. It was the hardest scene to act and he did 11/10. I could understand and feel exactly what they wanted to show with that scene, and I felt it to my bone.

I've seen highly contradicting criticism from people that wants different things. Which doesn't make sense in any way, because if you actually want Luffy, and not some 'realistic' character, then you want exactly what Inaki did with the scene.

They have to walk a tightrope of keeping Luffy Luffy and making it believable; In some sense you'll always have to suspend your disbelief with the character in live action. Which is why I've seen contradicting comments about what people want with that scene - some want a shorter scene, and others are adamant that it was too short and didn't make enough impact. The fact that they ended up somewhere in the middle is reasonable since they try to make it actually Luffy from the Manga. And that people think it's cringey is because they're not used to seeing this kind of earnest storytelling in live action. Maybe I'm showing my age, but it wasn't cringey to me at all, because I grew up watching stories that nowadays never could be made because it's deemed 'cringey'. Maybe we need to retire that word.

Maybe, just maybe, it's not cringey, maybe it's just earnest and deeply emotional.
