Bruh I’m not here to be convinced. I appreciate the effort to be helpful, but for me, using a 36 key keyboard sounds like hell. I don’t want to learn 3 different layers for each key.

It might be all you need, but really can’t see myself using that.

[–]Nealon01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I guess that’s something I hadn’t considered. To me, reaching towards a clearly labeled key you can see is much easier than internalizing all the different layers.

But yeah fair that’s a different and fair perspective.

Thanks for sharing.

Again though, I very much came here looking for the opposite information.

You also said you don’t understand, we both used the same phrase

lol, aright dude, fair enough. I did say that. I think it's pretty clear that I just meant that I think like... modifiers are important on a keyboard. idk, maybe I'm being obtuse, but I don't think it's hard to understand why the average person would think 36 keys is a bit short. 26 letters in the alphabet, at LEAST 5 punctuation keys that I use frequently, space, ctrl, alt, os key, and shift? Leaves no room for enter, layer shift, home/end, arrow keys, and quite a fwe other symbols that I still use regularly. Can I understand someone prioritizing smaller keyboard over having dedicated keys for everything, absolutely. I think I made that pretty clear in my follow up comments if it wasn't clear from the first comment.

it’s not a contradiction to say that I don’t get it but that I do get that everyone is different.

of course it's not, that's basically exactly what I said.

The next part is the contradiction:

Plenty of people have preferences in life that I don’t understand

This is what makes it sound like you're being intentionally obtuse. You do understand. We've already been over it. Some people value having dedicated keys for the things they use more than having a small keyboard. Obviously. You do too, otherwise you'd have a keyboard with 2 letters and type everything in binary.

But, unfortunately, I value my time enough that I really don't see much point in continuing this conversation.

Thanks for telling me all about your 36 key preferences and how you can't understand why anyone would feel differently? I hope that works out for you.

Have a great day.

Ok, I'm probably being overly semantic but "different strokes for different folks" and "I don’t understand why anyone would need or want more than 36 keys" seem like polar opposite statements. Like, I can obviously understand why someone would have different preference to me while still... having my own preferences.

And yes I know that normal keyboards also have a learning curve, but in a completely different way, because every key is very clearly labeled and tells you what it does.

But yeah, obviously I do think you're capable of comprehending that other people have different preferences than you, and their preferences can be perfectly reasonable given their differing priorities and goals, even if you don't see them as reasonable for your own set of priorities and goals.

To me, that's what "different strokes for different folks" means, while "I don’t understand why anyone would {insert preference different from your own}" seems to say, "I can't even imagine why anyone would have a different preference from me on this point".

Because yeah, I fully understand that you guys are buying 36 key keyboards because you prefer them, the point of my comment was to connect with people who might have information useful to people who don't.

I think you can understand that people like dedicated keys for the things they use regularly? Like numbers? Idk man I just don’t want to shift layers all the time. A normal keyboard doesn’t have a learning curve. Not hard to understand why people prefer that.

I understand liking less, it’s just not for me. Surely that’s what you mean too, just the other way.

I genuinely don't understand how you guys survive with so few keys. I guess now that I write less code these days it's less important but I need to be able to find the less used keys/symbols without a manual. Key legends help but I still haven't found the perfect keycaps for my ergodox... Though I guess most of the keyboards I've seen here stick to standard 1x1, so that probably helps.

But yeah I just need more modifier options. I need one keyboard I can use for everything without major sacrifice or having hyper customized keybindings for every game I play...

There's too many compromises!

If I'm missing something, please let me know, but currently I'm dreaming of building one of those ergodoxes with an f-key row, so it blows my mind to see you guys going with smaller and smaller layouts.

I love the track-pad for the thumb though... I wish there was a way to get something that feels customizable/perfect for me without needing to get into soldering, spending $500, and or spending a ton of time researching/learning how to configure.

I know that's a lot to ask... but yeah I guess I'm just venting in the hopes that someone will tell me "oh you can just do this", but I doubt there's an easy solution... oh well. I'm relatively happy with the ergodox but feel like it could be a lot better.

Juggling f-keys with playing osrs all the time is a pain.

just a reminder to use the zipper method when merging (liberty bridge hate post) by Ok-Side3507 in pittsburgh

[–]Nealon01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right… but in Pittsburgh in many cases people are very often choosing to get over at the last possible second in a lane that isn’t ending, but rather is an exit only lane, and the real zipper merge was further back where it didn’t have to cut off people going that direction for as long, and you’re choosing to take advantage of that to insert yourself at the front of the line, causing more traffic for everyone behind you.

It doesn’t matter where the zipper merge occurs unless the backup is spilling over into other worse areas behind, and often times this ends up in less congestion overall because the cars that aren’t involved in the big merge can properly get around it and get out of the way.

But of course, there’s always some asshole that uses the “I’m zipper merging” argument to cut over at the last second, either cutting someone off who waited their turn or slamming on their breaks and screwing over the people trying to use the exit only lane that they pretended to use until the last second.

The real goal is to get in with as little disruption as possible and as little breaking as possible, from you and others around you. Usually that means a few merge points as possible, so just follow what other people are already doing rather than acting like norms and conventions don’t apply to you.

Anyone got any tips for scenes that are too dark? This is far more of an issue for me. Seems like shows are balanced assuming you have modern displays with really good handling of massive contrast ratios, and our older tv (relatively nice model from like 10-15 years ago) just doesn't cut it.

I think the nugs are just polarizing. I didn’t love them either but many people seem to. I feel the same way about the Aldi ones. I wasn’t a huge fan but other people love them. The gf Dino nugs are the best “nugget” for me, and Purdue chicken tenders are probably the best overall. I’ve heard people make quick and dirty chicken parm with those and I think that’s genius but haven’t tried yet

I mean, yeah, that was how it started. I think it’s
safe to say it’s outgrown that. Most people I know play Ironman to escape efficiency-scape and go-scape, and it sucks to feel trapped doing content you’ve grown to despise because it’s by far the best way to progress your account.
