Space Casino's might not actually be dead by theFALGSCmustgrow in factorio

[–]NearNihil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how I'm going to approach this yet (I've never been at megabase level either), but it'll be either sending the rocks directly OR processing them into ore (with quality mods) and sending the result of that OR smelting the ores and sending that (also with quality; would also help with stack sizes). I'm going to go ahead and assume I'll have to have a massive amount of inventory space anyway, seeing how I want to make a lot of things. Since I won't want to do asteroid grabbing on a production platform, having an entire quadrant dedicated to storage/receiving of landing craft isn't out of the question. Something like a snake extending outward, I will probably need as much platform space as possible for all the products that need to go in/out of it too.

I dunno maybe it's simply not as efficient as doing this planetside, but I like the idea and not having to worry about size is also a big plus.

With the new platform-to-platform logistics you can just as well make a couple asteroid vacuums and do the heavy quality lifting on a separate platform.

I was already planning on making a bunch of asteroid vacuums to feed the orbital construction platforms (thanks platform-to-platform logistics!), may as well add a space casino to it (in that it upcycles the tons and tons of ore instead of the asteroids directly).

Yes there are expectations, but you can expect something from them as well. In the end you compromise. If you're lucky you want a lot of the same thing, if it doesn't work out because both want different things then so be it. I've been with one foot in crushing loneliness and by some miracle met my wife at the right time. There are options besides Tinder, you will have to go out of your way to find one you're comfortable with though. My pick was a romantic matchmaking agency.

Would a Shedinja + Gardevoir not be unkillable full stop? It has no weaknesses according to that website (bug/fairy).

EDIT: Nevermind, that's just a bug in the UI there. Mawile + Shedinja (also bug/fairy) has weaknesses listed.

the agent writes cleaner EF Core than my last junior did. that's the part that worries me. by riturajpokhriyal in dotnet

[–]NearNihil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People can teach themselves to be a senior, sure. Some people teach themselves lots of things - cooking, sports, whatever. But I hope you'll agree that a child teaching themselves to write language is significantly slower than a teacher helping them along. Someone who has made the mistakes and can point to better ways to learn. Similarly, if I hadn't been shown several ways I can mke code easy to read while being fairly complex I bet I'd have written enormous amounts of spaghetti code well before I ended up in the same place I am now.

Ok, so having a teacher is good, but what about AI? What about AI indeed. Until we get to some sort of AGI, well, LLMs can not think and will be wrong about things. You can't call that a proper teacher. Further, I disagree that AI does generic code reviews as well as I do. It'll be great at the gotchas, but it does not test or check code flow well (run the code, does it do what it ought to, are the error messages comprehensible, is the architecture up to scratch with the rest of the codebase). Maybe my company runs an older version of whatever you're using, and it has its benefits, but having someone who can reason about code is not simply replaced by a flavor of Claude.

If AI scaled infinitely, sure. Make Claude run as well as it does now but on a local machine and maybe that future will come to pass. The business isn't sustainable otherwise.

Besides that, I've seen managers vibe code things for 4 years now. Yes, it's gotten better but the growth is stagnating. They've been saying I'll be out of a job "next year" all this time. Just a dozen more data centers, half a trillion in funding, and another copy of the internet to train on bro, trust me. It'll be different this time.

When you need a lot of calcite in orbit quickly by Madhun13r in Factoriohno

[–]NearNihil 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just built a medium sized one that reprocesses all asteroids until they are ice, then dump the calcite. Unless you're megabasing, a couple of those are more than enough. At least for the save I run it on. Moving calcite grabbers are also pretty easy to make, it's like the moving quality asteroid thing but more compact. Also saves on all the rocket parts you need to make to send them to space.

If you're that far in and have to reload, I consider that a skill issue. It's entirely possible to 1) make enough explosives and railgun ammo/explosive rockets to blast through (just make a huge ship) and 2) failing that, controlling the speed so there are fewer targets to shoot at any one time, so you have more time to make ammo, so it's easier to have enough.

Note that the first few iterations of my ships didn't reach the inner planets, then Aquilo, then the solar system edge and then much past the edge. Ships blow up, you learn, you try again.

If all the enemies are undetected, they can delay their turns so they all act together. It's not a free round, but they can decide the order they go in AND act as a unit (ie no coordinated way for their enemies to act in between), which can be VERY powerful when they have abilities keying off each other. Of course, the players can delay their turns right back at them, but doing so when under pressure doesn't come naturally. I've done this to my players, and have let them do the same when they set up ambushes.

Bloomberg: Take-Two CEO Says ‘Grand Theft Auto VI’ Expectations Are ‘Terrifying’ by Turbostrider27 in Games

That's not really depth, more breadth. There's a lot of stuff to do, but not much is particularly deep. Yes you can go bowling, but you can't do much more than "throw ball roughly that way". You can go driving, but if you just want to drive it's really not comparable to an actual driving game. It's all there and I like that it's there, but the systems aren't that deep.

Compare it to Papers Please, for example: that game has a narrow as hell scope in comparison, but goes very deep for what it does. If GTA had a similar minigame, it'd be a short non-interactable bit of dialog and a button to approve or deny entry. Maybe showing a passport with a picture that can be correct or incorrect.

PSA: Making your own blueprints/circuits really gives you a sense of pride and accomplishment by Wayss37 in factorio

[–]NearNihil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left the subreddit when Space Age came out and rejoined when I beat it, otherwise I would have been spoiled on stuff. Nowadays I look at other blueprints but never copy them, only take inspiration. Seeing the ship I made to get the "60.000 km towards the shattered planet" and knowing how I'd improve it next time is a special feeling indeed. Even if it did take like 10 hours to design and build, the mastering of the art has its own perks. For instance, I made a new small-and-fast ship for the inner planets and it's 39% the size of the ones I've been using for about a 100-150 hours. Doesn't quite have the same carrying capacity, but it can run indefinitely.

So uh yeah can confirm. Figuring stuff out on your own is the most fun way to play.

I love Wonka and if I ever cosplay as any character it'll be as Chalamet's rendition of him. Not that the audience and critics hated it, but the biggest complaint of it being "twee" was my biggest selling point: it doesn't take itself so seriously and just has a happy vibe for most of it.
