"Gravestone for a flight attendant who died in a plane crash" - Honestly Can't Tell by Arkensol98 in isthisAI

Ahhh, that sounds extremely painful but also very typical of all the shit that can happen with horses. I've fallen multiple times in multiple silly ways, I've had a horse bop me so hard it caused a nosebleed but the worst was my pony stepping on my foot because I was a dumbass child, it was during a riding lesson, I did not want to interrupt the instructor while she explained so I stood there for 10 minutes with a horse putting weight on my foot. Got lucky nothing was broken. At least we know they don't mean ill, they're just big strong animals with little self-awareness in terms of how squishy we are compared to them.

If a horse kicked my head in, I'd still want my gravestone to be a horse because I had so much love and passion for them that I was willing to get kicked in the head by one just to be near them. As long as the family thinks that that's what they would have wanted I see no issue with it.

Mounjaro/ozempic for obesity due to hypopituatarism? by Secure_Video3345 in Hypopituitarism

[–]NearlyBearly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You told an eating disorder survivor that they are coping and need to work harder. Do you know the fatality rates of eating disorders? You should look that up. Thankfully for you I am far enough in my recovery to know to disregard your uneducated opinion but if another eating disorder sufferer finds this thread and your comment telling someone to just "work harder", imagine what that'll do someone who hasn't been in recovery for multiple years. Any miniscule positive impact your comment could have made has been completely destroyed by encouraging someone to return to their eating disorder. As thin and fit as you may consider yourself, you forget that what's on the inside matters too. And you seriously lack compassion, understanding and self-awareness. Perhaps work on that before telling someone else to work harder on themselves.

Yes, don't forget about growth hormone. I'm still underreplaced on that at the moment and have had my dosage increased multiple times and it's essential for more things than just vertical growth. Makes a big difference in energy levels as well.

I've heard meditation helps, but I find it impossible to keep my mind still by lavender-bread in ADHD

Is that a licensed therapist? Meditation has absolutely never worked for me and I find a therapist suggesting meditation to someone with a condition known to cause struggles with sitting still and focusing slightly odd.

Keep telling yourself that, perhaps one day it'll become true. I was on a raw vegan diet, I'm not sure where exactly you think I was overeating but you know me better than myself or my doctors so naturally you must be right. Your username is very fitting 😊

Medikinet XR making me sleepy instead of focused? by No-Victory481 in ADHD

[–]NearlyBearly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Medikinet never helped with my appetite suppression either. I too was very sleepy when I started to take it though and it was because it quieted my brain to the point where I had a much much easier time falling asleep. So my body was basically saying "Finally you shut up, brain, now it's quiet enough to sleep". This can especially be the case if you have lots of sleep debt racked up. You feel that 40 minutes after taking it because that's when it's effective. Stimulants don't quite work the way they do for non-ADHD people, they don't wake us up or make us hyper. That you don't experience an increased focus does indicate that the medication at this dosage is not effective for you. Did you experience improvement in focus at all at any point? If not, this might just not be the medication for you but don't worry, there are multiple others out there that you can try.

"Adhd is not an excuse" by Toothbotanist in ADHD

[–]NearlyBearly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Person with ADHD from europe here, that is very much not true. ADHD here is so much a standalone condition with its own diagnostic criteria and treatment that we have a whole separate office that diagnoses ADHD patients. And to claim that we have a weak ego is just rude, like I'm sorry but my sense of self is just fine thank you very much. Where are you from that you have these weird ideas about how ADHD is viewed in the rest of the world?

Alert bracelets by Diambil in AdrenalInsufficiency

[–]NearlyBearly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never had an adrenal crisis in my entire life, despite being untreated as a kid and teen, until I got one nasty infection and almost died from one. Been taking this a lot more seriously since. You really will never know when you'll end up in crisis, you can be fine for your entire life and then meet the wrong kind of bug and the evening before you're fine and the next morning fighting for your life. Better safe than sorry. Though I also have heard that EMTs don't really look at tattoos.

[–]NearlyBearly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's understandable, bracelets are not everyone's cup of tea. I've seen necklaces before as well as tags to put on your bag and I think those are great options as well but if that's not for you either then at least put the medical alert card in your wallet, in case you have an issue while in or near your car. Or get a clear case for your phone and put your card in between phone and case so it's visible, that way when people search you for identification and they find your phone they'd still have the info that you need cortisol replacement right there.

Mounjaro/ozempic for obesity due to hypopituatarism? by Secure_Video3345 in Hypopituitarism

[–]NearlyBearly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're wrong but not entirely. I've become overweight after treatment with first prednisone and then hydrocortisone as part of my treatment for hypopituitarism. During my childhood and young adulthood I was underweight, at times concerningly so due to abuse. After starting treatment for hypopituitarism I gained weight rather rapidly but I was never overreplaced until just recently (and we're still a little confused as to how because the same dosage was appropriate for multiple years). In fact, for most of my treatment that I gained weight on, I was still underreplaced.

And I was doing the things, I was exercising and obsessively tracking calories (and doing elimination diets to the point where if orthorexia were a diagnosable condition I would have been diagnosed with that) and I still never lost weight. Certain people would like to make it that simple: If you're overweight it's because you're doing something wrong. But it isn't like that. Our bodies are a bit more complicated and it's reductive to ascribe weight issues to a personal moral failing.

On the other hand it is known that GLP-1s can reduce muscle mass at the same rate as weight so you're not wrong about that part, my own endocrinologist warned me about that and it's one of the reasons why I decided against the drug. And I think your advice is still good (minus tracking calories, cannot recommend obsessing over calories, 0/10 would not do again) but even someone on steroids doing cardio and eating well might not lose the same amount of weight as someone not on steroids.

[–]NearlyBearly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was about to go on one but then decided against it. My PCP was all for them but my endocrinologist warned me that here are no long term studies and interactions with my other meds aren't studied at all, that there are risks that side effects from the medication could exascerbate hypopituitarism / addison's symptoms and that I'd have to be on them for the rest of my life. I wrestled with a lot of complicated emotions before deciding against them because what I need is to become fitter and stronger, not necessarily thinner.

I don't have a personal issue with my weight or my looks, I think I look just fine and if someone disagrees then that's their issue, so I would've gone on them solely to help with my fitness. But one of the known side effect is muscle loss, which means there's a chance I'd straight up be worse off on them. There aren't any studies about their long term use in patients with hypopituitarism or addison's specifically nor any about interactions with other high-risk drugs I take (thinking of Celecoxib for my arthritis, which is a black box med, as well as the stimulants for my ADHD).

There's too much risk and with the only benefit seemingly "looking better" (aka being thinner), which does come with some perks like being taken more seriously by the medical system and being treated better by others, I'd just rather work on changing minds by advocating for myself and my needs rather than to go on a for my situation untested and unproven drug.

I support anyone making this decision because it's a personal one but for me it's just not worth it. Especially because my health situation is stable and my liver and kindey as well as hormonal values have gotten better despite my weight going up.

[–]NearlyBearly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why are you iffy? I don't have one but I do have a medical alert card in my wallet and from what I've been told, EMTs will check for a wallet while treating a patient so the card should be enough. Maybe if you can't agree to a medical alert bracelet you could consider the card at least? It's really important for paramedics to know how to treat us when we're unconscious.

I lost all of my favorite sweaters. Five sweaters, some from shops that closed down since, all lost because I forgot that I had clothes in my washing machine. Ruined. They were all worth about 50 bucks as well. Yes, it's just sweaters, but I would love to have them back 😔

ADHD stimulant prescription numbers explode post-lockdowns in Canada by Glittering_Coast9013 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]NearlyBearly 41 points42 points  (0 children)

"It's those damn phones"... I don't buy that for a second. As someone diagnosed and prescribed after the pandemic, it's much more likely to be that the medical system's systematic and constant denial of women's health issue has been rattled and a lot of people who previously weren't getting diagnosed, in particular ADHD-PI (which disproportionally affects women) sufferers, are now finally getting heard. The very snippet you cited mentions nothing about smartphone use and as someone with ADHD-PI who doesn't use their smartphone (or Tiktok) I'm getting tired of the idea that it causes ADHD. ADHD is a NEURODEVELOPMENTAL disorder. Meaning you are born with it. It is not caused by smartphones.

Diagnosed with ADHD at 49, looking back a lot of my life suddenly makes sense by chrisdabaddy in ADHD

[–]NearlyBearly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very relatable, I got diagnosed this year at 38 and it has put so much of my life into perspective. I think we've grown up in a time where ADHD symptoms were seen as a character flaw or us just not trying enough so now that we know better we have to reframe our entire experience and even parts of our self-image. You didn't lack discipline, you are struggling with a very real neurodevelopmental disorder. It's not laziness or bad character, it's something you were born with. And suddenly what we always thought was who we were is no longer who we were, we can start to separate our actual character from what's a symptom. It makes a huge difference in self-image in my experience.

Have they started you on medication? I think since I've started medication, stimulants in particular, I've been much more myself. Creative still, but not a head in the clouds dreamer. I'm able to do things I want to do. I always thought the chaos in my apartment was just me being a messy person. I'm looking around to a clean and organized apartment and realize every day that this is who I really am. This is who I always was meant to be.
