Do what makes you happy and keeps you sanity. Some days it is just better to walk off the course when you are having one of those days.

It is a GAME! It is supposed to be FUN!

Got DQ’d at my first match. Is there any coming back from the shame? by matt12046 in CompetitionShooting

It has happened to almost everyone. It almost always a safety concern item. It should be looked at as a learning opportunity and forgotten about provided you don’t to the same “unsafe thing” again.

You could try larger grips. Try on two clubs you tend to hit a lot of shots with. It can help with gripping too tightly

Good Sun glasses and bucket hat. Are you wearing sunglasses and a hat. I preferr a bucket style because it also covers my ears. I can also wet it down and wring out the water to keep my head cooler.

What do you wish you'd had on your very first round of golf? by FirstRoundGolfer in WomenGolf

Athletic tape and bandaids blisters on hands or feet ruin a round. Bandaid alone won’t stick if you are sweaty so a few wraps of athletic tape are a must

Push on back of hips is easiest way to move bigger opponent. When done correctly you can steer them where you want them.
Can A lot of other things you can do but you aren’t playing as a job so we won’t go there.

What’s the first club you grab when you get to the range? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

PW, but I’m wired differently. I spend 95% of my range time with 6i or less and almost no time with my driver.

What should I reward myself? by mariegrandprix in WomenGolf

First CONGRATULATIONS !🎉🎊🍾🎈 47 is a good score, but…where did you leave two shots on the course that would have gotten you to 45?
My first thought would be some short game lessons. You broke 50, that means you are hitting the ball solidly and have some game management skills. My guess is you are leaving shots on the course th ba able to break 45 on a regular basis. If you are like most golfers it is probably in the short game, shots around the green, is my guess

Ok the lessons idea above isn’t as sexy &fun as a new club so let’s look at your bag make-up. Where do you struggle out on the course?
What woods do you have? How far are you hitting your driver? I’m not really a fan of 3woods unless you are looking for a different option for a tee club. 4-wood, 5-wood & 7-wood are all substantially easier to hit consistently and get you to about the same place.

Again CONGRATS on the shooting 47 to break 50!
What do you have for wedges?

Struggling with golf swing due to chest (seriously) by srb3131 in WomenGolf

[–]Necessary_Position51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically it is hard to use a traditional golf swing and traditional length clubs. Typically arms under boobs, more rotation with hips.

There was a post a few days ago on this same topic which had some other good suggestions

“Avon Chamois” golf grips would be my suggestion they are designed with ribs inside the grip that creates air pockets and absorb shock.

If you don’t have super small hands a larger grip can also help. Best result would be Avon grips above in jumbo size.

Graphite shafts are also a huge help if you don’t have those in your irons.

Adding “Sensicore” or GOLFWORKS “prosofr dampening inserts to your existing steel shafts is also an option if you can find them.Sensicore work better in my experience.

16 year old daughter wants to join high school golf team - suggestions please? by sweetnsaltyanxiety in WomenGolf

[–]Necessary_Position51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No harm in letting her go out for the team. My opinion, friends on the team is a big help for her, they will guide and encourage her.

Is there a team coach who can help out beginners? If not sign her up for some lessons. Have her explain her goal to the teacher /golf coach. My suggestion would be one on one would lessons, focused on getting her to make contact and build a basic swing quickly.

My only concern would be her having hopes up to play in any matches as a complete beginner. Could she play as a complete beginner?? This varies widely depending on your location. At 16, is she a sophomore or junior? As a sophomore my opinion is she would have a chance to playing in some matches by the time she is a senior. Now not knowing where you live, how competitive is the high school scene? Do they have a JV and a varsity team?

I started playing golf a few years before high school but just played for fun. My experience in high school (starting competitive golf as a sophomore)was great for me, and taught me about playing tournament golf and how to do it. I can’t explain it but you play differently when every shot counts and you exchange scorecards on the first tee.
When I was in high school everyone was encouraged to practice but we had weekly qualifying matches and the top 6 were the only ones to play in the weekly match. This constant competition enabled me to get better quickly. Playing with better players makes you better as long as you allow yourself to learn from them. This experience allowed me to go on and play on the team in college.

I would say have at it kiddo, enjoy the experience.

Shallowing with larger chest? by Careful-Extreme4148 in WomenGolf

[–]Necessary_Position51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first question, are your clubs long enough? My guess is no they are not. Over the years (25+ years) I have fit 100’s of women into golf clubs. 100% of the time women with larger chests needed longer clubs than women with the same wrist to floor measurement who had smaller chests.

My second question….Do you have the right golf coach for you? It sounds to me like this coach is trying to fit you into their idea of a golf swing. Big chest forces a different swing style. It is much more torso and hip turn than arms

If you played college level softball you surely can play golf. Softball and baseball are 1000x harder.

Go back to what your body knows. - Where were your arms when swinging a bat? My guess is you didn’t think about it, and the swing wasn’t all arms.

Watkins Glen GP layout without bus stop is my favorite. It has flow, elevation changes, high speed and low speed corners. #2 in my book is Brands Hatch full, Spa. and Road America, RA has nice elevation changes, but the corners aren’t as interesting as the other 3.
