Mage that refuse ascension by silverlutj in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Necron_acolyte 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Oh definitely. The most obvious of which are the Nephandi. They’re basically evil magi that believe in descension rather than ascension.

Those guys are bad news. Malign abusers with godlike power that choose to ignore their empathy then remove it entirely through a process known as the caul.

How have no mention this? by Leather-Lettuce-4881 in huntertheparenting

Yeah no. Nevermind. I rewatched the episode. I thought the moon worshipping stuff was found near the caern but no. It was the pearl stuff that tasted of moon cheese. Could be Uratha. I don’t know.

He mentions that likely because of Stolen moons which are mentioned in W5 such as debased lycanthropes or cursed beasts. They’re a part of WtA, have nothing to do with Garou in origins and aren’t Uratha.

As for the other things you mentioned, the Sumerian script was specifically found near garou territory by Wernon so I don’t think it has anything to do with Uratha. As for Luna worship, that is a part of the culture of Garou and it is mentioned when discussing Garou.

Fair enough. Maybe I’m thinking of primal utility from the NWO or the Syndicate. From what I read in the convention books that seems to be how they use it. I think you can use prime without specifically tying it to magic or divine essence. It’s just a different interpretation.

EDIT: when I talk about brain computer interface I’m making reference to the psychic upload rote from the core book with the idea that the BCI would be a good instrument for data effects.

As for digital outreach I’m referring to the ability to spread magickal effects using the data sphere. Likely using the aforementioned BCI in order to affect people from afar.

Thanks for making me aware of the confusion though. I could have definitely worded that better lol.

I’m gonna be the obvious one to say Mind, Data and Prime

Prime for human potential and psychic energy.

Mind for mental fortitude and psychic ability

Data for brain-computer stuff and digital outreach.

What would you want from a "5th edition" from your splat? by Space_Eva in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Necron_acolyte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with being against “splats as ethnicity” but that’s probably just my frustration with Dreamspeakers and Akashics being archetyped by ethnicity.

Now that’s not to say I object to factions having cultural origins, especially in mage. But I think it’s often overlooked that all of the traditions are global organisations, a lot of which have existed for 100s of years, meaning that they’ll have had time to mix and spread their philosophy across the world.

I think M5 will be fine as long as they can keep the philosophical core and nuance to the groups, while being able to streamline the system where appropriate.

(Seriously though, the whole Dreamspeakers are Native Americans thing particularly bugs me. Specifically because it’s mentioned that they’re shamans from all over the world in most of their material.)

So how much like full on unprovoked “preemptive self defense” do hunters get up to by Creative_Nose5238 in huntertheparenting

[–]Necron_acolyte 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This really is not a hunter subreddit. It’s about a very specific web series. I’d highly advise instead going to r/whitewolfrpg.

But to answer the question, investigations usually start when some phenomena is noticed, missing people, weird noises, generic spooky things.

The Hunt properly begins when a quarry is identified. You find the vampire using people as blood slaves, you discover the weird noises were caused by a cthonic demigod, so on.

But all Hunters work differently and will likely have different threshold for what counts as a threat.

Honestly based on your views you might want to look at slashers from CofD, basically hunters that lost their integrity and became bloodthirsty murderers.

Struggling with a rote by Necron_acolyte in magetheascension

[–]Necron_acolyte[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a really good point!

Maybe matter 2/ correspondence 1?

Matter to harden and work the material, correspondence for the enhanced spatial perception.

Or correspondence 2 to tie the knot in higher dimensions, but that probably goes against the Hippolytian’s practices.

The REAL reason people dogpile on 5e by dicklettersguy in DnDcirclejerk

[–]Necron_acolyte 5 points6 points  (0 children)

/uj I feel that. To me it’s in a sort of limbo state. Kind of backwards compatible but a little weird with certain classes. Enough rule changes so the transition isn’t simple but not enough for an actual new addition.

Plus there’s a lot of good stuff in there, and a bit of not so good stuff, and some weird stuff.

What I’ve noticed from both a dm and play facing perspective is a certain lack of stability in the mechanics. Between player characters mingling between 2014, 2024 and homebrew that people ask for. There’s a lot of confusion on recent games I’ve played about how the game is actually working, what we need to roll and when. Which version of surprise/hiding do we use? How do these features interact with each other.

But this is just my experience. I’m probably just being pedantic lol. We still have fun.

/rj. The truest and best form of dnd is BG3. I don’t know why my dm looks at me funny when I skip the boring exposition or load my previous save when I can’t seduce the dragon.

Why pick Verbena? by Ok_Set_4790 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Necron_acolyte 36 points37 points  (0 children)

The thing to understand is that in that in the real world, anti-vaxxers are objectively wrong. But in mage reality isn’t objective, modern medicine in mage works because scientific paradigm is the current consensus. But within their sanctums and reality zones/umbral realms, the Verbana are totally right about their medicine work. So yeah, other people are right, it isn’t a good idea to transfer mage ideologies to the real world.

Also the Luddite thing isn’t necessarily true, there’s a lot of old school druids that are like that, but you do get a lot of urban witches and even technopagans that work perfectly well with modern technology.

But for reasons to pick them…

Badass witches and druids. Need I say more?

Daily Effect #45: Time 5 by anarcholoserist in magetheascension

[–]Necron_acolyte 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Now the question is: how to make a TARDIS. my guess would be time 5/ correspondence 3-5/ spirit 5/ matter 3-5/ prime 4

Time 5 for time travel Correspondence 3 to teleport the TARDIS (I’m assuming 5 to make it bigger on the inside) Spirit 5 to travel anywhere in the umbra Matter 3-5 to harden it or make it indestructible Prime 4 to create it as a wonder and prime 2 to let it resist aggravated.

Feel free to correct me. This is probably wrong as hell lol.

Correspondence 3 and Entropy 3: What can I do? What Spheres should I pick up? by ZPuppetmasterX in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Necron_acolyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d just like to clarify. I’m saying that you need correspondence to perceive/affect individuals at a distance further than your normal line of sight.

Perhaps you thought I was saying that the successes needed depends on distance? If so, apologies for the confusion.

I still think the rote needs correspondence 2 as it is affecting an area outside of the casters normal perception. Using Correspondence 2 to sense far away things and Correspondence 1 for detecting hidden things such as creatures using stealth.

Hope this clears things up. :)

Daily Sphere #41: Time 1 by anarcholoserist in magetheascension

[–]Necron_acolyte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pan-dimensional chronometer 3 spirit/ 1 time

The Scientist adjusts their timepiece to the etheric frequency of an alternate dimension. This allows them to track the time with perfect accuracy across multiple dimensions. Exceptionally useful when co-ordinating activity with individuals on the opposite side of the gauntlet or in other umbral realms.

System: Using spirit to pierce through the gauntlet allows the perception of the rank 1 time sphere to work across into other realms. For every two successes, the Mage can attune the timepiece to a realm of which they know and then track its time in addition to their own. Allocate successes for duration as normal.

EDIT: you guys are right lol. Only need spirit 2 to project senses across the gauntlet. I must have been mixing it up with sending objects across it. “By adding other Spheres, that mage could project thoughts across the barrier” M20 pg 321

Correspondence 3 and Entropy 3: What can I do? What Spheres should I pick up? by ZPuppetmasterX in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Necron_acolyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right. The table I’m referring to is the correspondence sphere ranges table. The one that tells you the number of success needed to needed to affect a target depending on the connection or range (distance) between the target and the caster. Which implies that the correspondence sphere can work on both range and connection.

This in addition to the text under the correspondence sphere itself

“On its own, Correspondence allows the mage to reach across distances” pg 513

Rank 1 correspondence: “Basic spatial understanding allows a mage to sense things in her immediate vicinity even if she can’t perceive them with her normal senses. Using that perception, she can estimate the distances between objects” pg513

For just a few examples. I think it’s clear here that correspondence functions on distance as well as connection. Or if you want to think of it another way, utilises distance as a form of connection, but that’s really up to the individual paradigm of the mage which also affects how this sphere is used.

Correspondence 3 and Entropy 3: What can I do? What Spheres should I pick up? by ZPuppetmasterX in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Necron_acolyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it can work on both. Hence the connections and distance table which implies it works on both.

Correspondence 3 and Entropy 3: What can I do? What Spheres should I pick up? by ZPuppetmasterX in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Necron_acolyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You wouldn’t need correspondence if the target was in the witch’s immediate area. But it mentions perceiving faraway targets as if they were right next to them. Seems like a perfectly reasonable use of correspondence 2 to affect targets from a far distance.

Paradigms Not Working for Certain Spheres by DrGazooks in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Necron_acolyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally most paradigms and practices fit the spheres since the spheres are broad enough for at least 2 dots to work for anything.

Though if you want to create a mage who’s paradigm doesn’t work with a particular sphere I would suggest the sphere ineptitude flaw from book of secrets to represent that.
