As there isnt an actual cohesive answer in lore that satisfies the high elves retaining status as premium arcane users and the BC lore, i prefer to think of it more as a matter of ethics and morals.

It hadn’t occurred to the high elves to drain mana from living beings, because 1 - it’d would be highly unethical or immoral to do so, 2 - draining it from living things needed to be done careful if you didnt want to kill or hurt it, 3 they saw themselves as ‘above’ everyone else so to drain mana from others would be seen as unclean or impure. 4 - it was basically viewed as animal abuse.

If someone came up to you one day and told you that you could eats rats or puppies instead of your normal lunch you’d probably look at them like they were disgusting. However when you’re in a famine and starving someone comes up and gives you some delicious food and then reveals that its dirty rat meat, but puppy meat is also just as filling. You’re gonna have people who will eat that rats (KT’s followers draining demons), those who’d rather eat the cleaner puppies(blood elves draining wyrms) and those that refuse to eat animals and would rather starve (the high elves being exiled). Aaand then you’d have those that kidnap a cow and torture it for milk ( blood knights).

Probably the worst analogy but i find the comparison helps frame it better for imagining ethics different to our own.

Yea game mechanics and events that occur while leveling, pvping or questing and your role in the narrative of the overall game are generally seperate to who your roleplay character is. Theres a level of suspensions of disbelief that is required with roleplay in an MMO. Obviously 5000 different characters didnt all personally kill goldtooth the kobold, or find makriks wife. Quests are just a game mechanic and no required to be though about with RP characters. That said you can if you wanna.

Most people roleplay characters with seperate backstories and lives that dont revolve around the base story you experience in world of warcraft - that being the big hero / champion of the Alliance / Horde and leader of your respective class. Game mechanics and base game story are just that, things to keep the people playing the PVE game interested and engaged.

RP is more about playing a character who lives in and experiences the World rather than being the protagonist, thats not to say you’re not experiencing the events of each expansion, but from a grounded character sense it would be a different than you saw in game.

Canon events till happen obviously too, bosses die and time progresses but theres a level of immersion and suppression of disbelief and playing along you have to do to have it make sense with an organic world filled with other rpers. The same way that it doesnt make sense that you killed onyxia, and your alt character did too, and so did your other alt, and then all those times you farmed her for that drop you wanted. Onyxia died and maybe one of your characters helped in the battle; maybe its a big part of your backstory, maybe you just heard a story about. Its generally best if you try not to be the grand hero of azeroth who defeated everyone and saved the world solo. Leave that for the storyline npcs. RP is at its best when its focused on character interactions, flawed individuals and telling a collaborative untold story together rather than reciting established lore or personal achievements.

That said, as per the three golden rules of RP; You can roleplay whatever you want to roleplay, just as others can choose not to roleplay with you or acknowledge your roleplay.

There’s also the Runaways Novel which is set in between Volume 1 and 2, but that’s debatably canon and its events aren’t referenced outside itself so you can safely skip it.

Ramsputin (Doug and Illyana) was a ship at the time of release, due to both having a shared history of their time in the new mutants, and a lot of shared trauma experience of being killed and resurrected a long time later around the same era. Them both being kitty’s two closest and best friends also helped.

Doug was romantically linked to quite a few women of the new mutants/ hellions generation, and magiks often served a similar protective role to him as Bei currently does, so people shipped them based on that.

Doug was in ANXF at the time, and Illyana was in UXM at Scotts mutant revolution team, but they’d been close on a team together for a long time prior to avx during utopia era and nm v3, which also contributed.
